Multimodal domain adaptation (MMDA) aims to transfer knowledge across different domains that contain multimodal data. Current methods typically assume that both the source and target domains have paired multimodal data with the same modalities, allowing for direct knowledge transfer between corresponding types of data. However, in certain applications, the source domain benefits from advanced sensors and equipment, capturing more modalities than those available in the target domain. As a result, the information from the source modalities may not strongly align with that of the target modalities. This weak correlation hinders the effective utilization of all source data for the target domain. To address this challenge, we propose a weakly correlated multimodal domain adaptation (WCMMDA) method for pattern classification. WCMMDA is designed to acquire the modality-independent and category-related knowledge from the source domain, enabling the full utilization of available source modalities for effective knowledge transfer. Specifically, modality-invariant features are first extracted from the multimodal data to bridge the heterogeneity gap within each domain. Subsequently, domain-invariant features are further learned from these modality-invariant features to align the feature distributions across the source and target domains. A source-specific classifier is employed here, which predicts pseudo-labels for the target data and enables the feature extractor to explore category-related information in source features. Finally, a target-specific classifier is trained using the pseudolabeled target data, where highly reliable pseudolabels are selected based on confidence to improve classification performance. Extensive experiments are performed on the real-world multimodal datasets to demonstrate the superiority of WCMMDA. © 2020 IEEE.

Research On Fatigue Driving Detection Based On Deep Learning

Fatigue driving is one of the main causes of traffic accidents. Effective fatigue driving detection technology can reduce traffic accidents caused by fatigue driving. Traditional fatigue driving detection methods usually use a two-stage detection method, which has the problems of low efficiency and poor accuracy. To solve these problems, this paper designs a single-stage fatigue driving detection model based on separable convolution Road Safety Net (RSNet), which extracts the features in the driver's image or video and classifies these features to determine whether the driver is in an abnormal driving state. RSNet borrows the structure of Swin Transformer and adopts a hierarchical design, which makes the model better able to extract features and classify. Each level is composed of a GDS Layer and multiple RS Blocks. To solve the problem of low efficiency of traditional methods, we use separable convolution in RS Block to replace the traditional convolutional neural network, which reduces the complexity of the model and effectively improves the computational efficiency of the model. Experimental results show that the Top-1 and Top-5 Accuracy of RSNet on the HMDB51 dataset reaches 85 % and 97.35 %, respectively, and the delay is 5.97 ms. Compared with ResNet, EfficientNet, and Swin Transformer, RSNet has higher accuracy and efficiency. In addition, this paper takes the YOLACT algorithm as an example, selects different backbone networks for object detection, and compares the indicators of mean Average Precision (mAP) and Frames Per Second (FPS). Experiments show that RSNet performs better when used as the backbone network for object detection, with mAP reaching 32.4 % and FPS of 39.6 ms. A sharding blockchain-based UAV system for search and rescue missions

Sharding is a promising technique to tackle the critical weakness of scalability in blockchain-based unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)search and rescue(SAR)*** breaking up the blockchain network into smaller partitions called shards that run independently and in parallel,shardingbased UAV systems can support a large number of search and rescue UAVs with improved scalability,thereby enhancing the rescue ***,the lack of adaptability and interoperability still hinder the application of sharded blockchain in UAV SAR *** refers to making adjustments to the blockchain towards real-time surrounding situations,while interoperability refers to making cross-shard interactions at the mission *** address the above challenges,we propose a blockchain UAV system for SAR missions based on dynamic sharding *** from the benefits in scalability brought by sharding,our system improves adaptability by dynamically creating configurable and mission-exclusive shards,and improves interoperability by supporting calls between smart contracts that are deployed on different *** implement a prototype of our system based on Quorum,give an analysis of the improved adaptability and interoperability,and conduct experiments to evaluate the *** results show our system can achieve the above goals and overcome the weakness of blockchain-based UAV systems in SAR scenarios.

To better characterize the properties of surface-initiated polymers, simultaneous bulk-and surface-initiated polymerizations are usually carried out by assuming that the properties of the surface-initiated polymers resemble those of the bulk-initiated polymers. Through a Monte Carlo simulation using a heterogeneous stochastic reaction model, it was discovered that the bulk-initiated polymers exhibit a higher molecular weight and a lower dispersity than the corresponding surface-initiated polymers, which indicates that the equivalent assumption is invalid. Furthermore, the molecular weight distributions of the two types of polymers are also different, suggesting different polymerization mechanisms. The results can be simply explained by the heterogeneous distributions of reactants in the system. This study is helpful to better understand surface-initiated polymerization.

Research into automatically searching for an optimal neural network(NN)by optimi-sation algorithms is a significant research topic in deep learning and artificial ***,this is still challenging due to two issues:Both the hyperparameter and ar-chitecture should be optimised and the optimisation process is computationally *** tackle these two issues,this paper focusses on solving the hyperparameter and architecture optimization problem for the NN and proposes a novel light‐weight scale‐adaptive fitness evaluation‐based particle swarm optimisation(SAFE‐PSO)***,the SAFE‐PSO algorithm considers the hyperparameters and architectures together in the optimisation problem and therefore can find their optimal combination for the globally best ***,the computational cost can be reduced by using multi‐scale accuracy evaluation methods to evaluate ***,a stagnation‐based switch strategy is proposed to adaptively switch different evaluation methods to better balance the search performance and computational *** SAFE‐PSO algorithm is tested on two widely used datasets:The 10‐category(i.e.,CIFAR10)and the 100−cate-gory(i.e.,CIFAR100).The experimental results show that SAFE‐PSO is very effective and efficient,which can not only find a promising NN automatically but also find a better NN than compared algorithms at the same computational cost.

Streaming Histogram Publication over Weighted Sliding Windows Under Differential Privacy

Continuously publishing histograms in data streams is crucial to many real-time applications,as it provides not only critical statistical information,but also reduces privacy leaking *** the importance of elements usually decreases over time in data streams,in this paper we model a data stream by a sequence of weighted sliding windows,and then study how to publish histograms over these windows *** existing literature can hardly solve this problem in a real-time way,because they need to buffer all elements in each sliding window,resulting in high computational overhead and prohibitive storage *** this paper,we overcome this drawback by proposing an online algorithm denoted by Efficient Streaming Histogram Publishing(ESHP)to continuously publish histograms over weighted sliding ***,our method first creates a novel sketching structure,called Approximate-Estimate Sketch(AESketch),to maintain the counting information of each histogram interval at every time instance;then,it creates histograms that satisfy the differential privacy requirement by smartly adding appropriate noise values into the sketching *** experimental results and rigorous theoretical analysis demonstrate that the ESHP method can offer equivalent data utility with significantly lower computational overhead and storage costs when compared to other existing methods.

Existing lip synchronization(lip-sync)methods generate accurately synchronized mouths and faces in a generated ***,they still confront the problem of artifacts in regions of non-interest(RONI),e.g.,background and other parts of a face,which decreases the overall visual *** solve these problems,we innovatively introduce diverse image inpainting to lip-sync *** propose Modulated Inpainting Lip-sync GAN(MILG),an audio-constraint inpainting network to predict synchronous *** utilizes prior knowledge of RONI and audio sequences to predict lip shape instead of image generation,which can keep the RONI ***,we integrate modulated spatially probabilistic diversity normalization(MSPD Norm)in our inpainting network,which helps the network generate fine-grained diverse mouth movements guided by the continuous audio ***,to lower the training overhead,we modify the contrastive loss in lipsync to support small-batch-size and few-sample *** experiments demonstrate that our approach outperforms the existing state-of-the-art of image quality and authenticity while keeping lip-sync.

Climate change threatens African subsistence farming with erratic rainfall, droughts, and seasonal shifts causing devastating crop failures. Hydroponic farming, often recommended to mitigate these threats, requires constant monitoring and knowledge, which can be overwhelming for first-time growers. Research has explored using the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate and monitor hydroponic systems. Still, few studies have tested these systems in the field with farmers. Our previous work involved an eight-month deployment of an AI and IoT-enabled hydroponic system with rural subsistence farmers in South Africa. We conducted focus groups and observed the hydroponic systems using a qualitative approach. This paper discusses lessons learned from deploying the system in Namibia. We found that generalized AI models are unlikely to succeed due to differences in water quality, climate, participant readiness, and internet connectivity. Therefore, AI and IoT systems for rural Africa must be tailor-made to be functional and effective for crop growth. © 2024 IEEE.
