Monte Carlo Simulation-Based Robust Workflow Scheduling for Spot Instances in Cloud Environments

When deploying workflows in cloud environments,the use of Spot Instances(SIs)is intriguing as they are much cheaper than on-demand ***,Sls are volatile and may be revoked at any time,which results in a more challenging scheduling problem involving execution interruption and hence hinders the successful handling of conventional cloud workflow scheduling *** some scheduling methods for Sls have been proposed,most of them are no more applicable to the latest Sls,as they have evolved by eliminating bidding and simplifying the pricing *** study focuses on how to minimize the execution cost with a deadline constraint when deploying a workflow on volatile Sls in cloud *** on Monte Carlo simulation and list scheduling,a stochastic scheduling method called MCLS is devised to optimize a utility function introduced for this *** the Monte Carlo simulation framework,MCLS employs sampled task execution time to build solutions via deadline distribution and list scheduling,and then returns the most robust solution from all the candidates with a specific evaluation mechanism and selection *** results show that the performance of MCLS is more competitive comparedwithtraditionalalgorithms.

In recent years, the increasing development of Web 3.0 has generated growing attention toward blockchain and smart contracts. However, due to their immutability, smart contracts still exhibit various vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit, resulting in significant losses. Numerous smart contracts on various blockchains, including Ethereum, have been attacked due to various vulnerabilities. The inefficiency of detecting these vulnerabilities has become a major bottleneck in advancing blockchain and smart contracts. Although detecting smart contract vulnerabilities has attracted much attention, most existing machine learning-based methods rely on adequate expert knowledge and target only specific known vulnerabilities via binary classification models. To address this limitation, our proposed approach introduced a general vulnerability detection method that can be applied to identify various common vulnerabilities via a uniform framework. We leveraged the Abstract Syntax Trees (AST) and self-attention-based graph pooling models to generate topological graphs from smart contract code analysis. We adopted Graph Neural Networks for vulnerability detection. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed approach exhibited satisfactory performance in detecting multiple and unseen vulnerabilities compared to traditional methods. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Semi-Supervised Object Detection (SSOD) has gained significant interest in recent years. However, the majority of existing methods are based on the close-set assumption. In this paper, we address a challenging but more practical scenario, Open-Set Semi-Supervised Object Detection (OSSOD), where out-of-distribution (OOD) samples are contained in unlabeled data. The previous approach employs an offline detector to eliminate OOD pseudo labels, which is intricate and time-consuming. And the limited availability of labeled data hampers the performance of the OOD detector. In contrast, we propose a simple yet effective approach that facilitates the detector's performance in open scenarios. Specifically, we employ soft-distribution on all identified instances as our training objective to enhance the model's feature extraction capability. And we further design a radius-aware matching approach to filter OOD samples according to categories with varying diversity in unlabeled data. Our category-aware design has been proven effective through extensive experiments, surpassing current state-of-the-art work. © 2024 IEEE.

Breast cancer, the most common cancer affecting female patients, presents serious challenges for proper detection. Although computer-aided diagnostic techniques have progressed, their accuracy and efficacy remain limited. To overcome these challenges, we introduce DHA-Net, a new deep learning system that combines an effective attention module (EAM) and a high-order pooling layer with a ResNet-18 backbone. DHA-Net is tested using three well-known breast cancer histopathology image datasets: BreakHis, BACH2018, and a closely related Kaggle-Breast cancer histopathology dataset. Our experiments show that DHA-Net not only improves on existing state-of-the-art approaches, but significantly outperforms them in classifying breast cancer images. This work emphasizes the novel combination of an EAM with high-order pooling, demonstrating DHA-Net’s potential to improve diagnostic accuracy and serve as a more effective tool for medical imaging applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Human Activity Recognition(HAR)is an active research area due to its applications in pervasive computing,human-computer interaction,artificial intelligence,health care,and social ***,dynamic environments and anthropometric differences between individuals make it harder to recognize *** study focused on human activity in video sequences acquired with an RGB camera because of its vast range of real-world *** uses two-stream ConvNet to extract spatial and temporal information and proposes a fine-tuned deep neural ***,the transfer learning paradigm is adopted to extract varied and fixed frames while reusing object identification *** state-of-the-art pre-trained models are exploited to find the best model for spatial feature *** temporal sequence,this study uses dense optical flow following the two-stream ConvNet and Bidirectional Long Short TermMemory(BiLSTM)to capture *** state-of-the-art datasets,UCF101 and HMDB51,are used for evaluation *** addition,seven state-of-the-art optimizers are used to fine-tune the proposed network ***,this study utilizes an ensemble mechanism to aggregate spatial-temporal features using a four-stream Convolutional Neural Network(CNN),where two streams use RGB *** contrast,the other uses optical flow ***,the proposed ensemble approach using max hard voting outperforms state-ofthe-art methods with 96.30%and 90.07%accuracies on the UCF101 and HMDB51 datasets.

The flourish of deep learning frameworks and hardware platforms has been demanding an efficient compiler that can shield the diversity in both software and hardware in order to provide application *** the existing deep learning compilers,TVM is well known for its efficiency in code generation and optimization across diverse hardware *** the meanwhile,the Sunway many-core processor renders itself as a competitive candidate for its attractive computational power in both scientific computing and deep learning *** paper combines the trends in these two ***,we propose swTVM that extends the original TVM to support ahead-of-time compilation for architecture requiring cross-compilation such as *** addition,we leverage the architecture features during the compilation such as core group for massive parallelism,DMA for high bandwidth memory transfer and local device memory for data locality,in order to generate efficient codes for deep learning workloads on *** experiment results show that the codes generated by swTVM achieve 1.79x improvement of inference latency on average compared to the state-of-the-art deep learning framework on Sunway,across eight representative *** work is the first attempt from the compiler perspective to bridge the gap of deep learning and Sunway processor particularly with productivity and efficiency in *** believe this work will encourage more people to embrace the power of deep learning and Sunwaymany-coreprocessor.

N^(6)-Methyladenine is a dynamic and reversible post translational modification,which plays an essential role in various biological *** of the current inability to identify m6A-containing mRNAs,computational approaches have been developed to identify m6A sites in DNA *** to improve prediction performance,we introduced a novel ensemble computational approach based on three hybrid deep neural networks,including a convolutional neural network,a capsule network,and a bidirectional gated recurrent unit(BiGRU)with the self-attention mechanism,to identify m6A sites in four tissues of three *** a total of 11 datasets,we selected different feature subsets,after optimized from 4933 dimensional features,as input for the deep hybrid neural *** addition,to solve the deviation caused by the relatively small number of experimentally verified samples,we constructed an ensemble model through integrating five sub-classifiers based on different training *** compared through 5-fold cross-validation and independent tests,our model showed its superiority to previous methods,im6A-TS-CNN and iRNA-m6A.

The development of the industrial Internet of Things and smart grid networks has emphasized the importance of secure smart grid communication for the future of electric power transmission. However, the current deployment of smart meters and wireless communication methods presents several security concerns that must be addressed to ensure sustainable and resilient smart grid networks for Industry 5.0, with a focus on consumer-centric technologies. In this context, we propose a privacy-focused authentication solution for secure consumer-centric demand response management in smart grid networks, incorporating consumer electronics. Our proposed protocol utilizes blockchain-based authentication to enhance resistance against potential attacks and ensure the integrity of demand response data. Additionally, we have incorporated a PUF to prevent physical attacks. We have conducted informal and formal security analyses to verify the effectiveness of our proposed protocol against various threats and to confirm the session key security. Our comparison study has demonstrated that our protocol provides superior security and added functionalities, with lower computation and communication costs compared to similar protocols. Furthermore, we have measured the computational time for implementing the blockchain component of our protocol while considering the impact of varying numbers of block additions and transactions per block. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

This paper examines the use of supervised machine learning to construct a digital twin model replicating a physical plant. An inverted pendulum simulation has been used as a case study. A comparative study was conducted on single-step and multi-step Dense models, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Recurrent Neural Net (RNN), and a Residual Neural Net (RNN2) models to investigate the most appropriate model for replicating the plant model. The study found that single-step models were consistently more accurate than multi-step models due to single-step model’s iterative nature. Whereas, multi-step models were better at revealing prediction patterns and identifying causes for large deviations. The best-performing model was the RNN2 model, however, signs of overfitting were observed. In general, all models were able to take into account minor random actuation, however, large changes such as the pendulum falling over caused the models to behave sporadically. © 2024 IEEE.

A new parallel file system and multi-core processor-based dynamic multimedia encryption method is presented in this study. Multimedia encryption efficiency and security were the main goals, addressing massive data sets and high-speed processing. We created a dynamic encryption algorithm for multimedia content, supported by a strong parallel file system and tuned for multi-core processing. Multiple tests showed significant improvements in encryption and decryption times, retaining short durations for real-time applications. After encryption, the system maintained multimedia content quality and accuracy with data integrity rates nearing 100%. Balanced CPU utilization showed efficient resource use and processor load management. The system's excellent throughput efficiency showed its capacity to process enormous amounts of data. These results indicate that parallel file systems and multi-core CPUs may solve multimedia encryption problems. Adaptable and scalable, the system supports many multimedia formats and sizes. This paper proposes a multimedia encryption system that improves performance data security and integrity, paving the way for safe multimedia processing advances. © 2024 IEEE.
