The recent large-scale text-to-image generative models have attained unprecedented performance, while people established adaptor modules like LoRA and DreamBooth to extend this performance to even more unseen concept tokens. However, we empirically find that this workflow often fails to accurately depict the out-of-distribution concepts. This failure is highly related to the low quality of training data. To resolve this, we present a framework called Controllable Adaptor Towards Out-of-Distribution Concepts (CATOD). Our framework follows the active learning paradigm which includes high-quality data accumulation and adaptor training, enabling a finer-grained enhancement of generative results. The aesthetics score and concept-matching score are two major factors that impact the quality of synthetic results. One key component of CATOD is the weighted scoring system that automatically balances between these two scores and we also offer comprehensive theoretical analysis for this point. Then, it determines how to select data and schedule the adaptor training based on this scoring system. The extensive results show that CATOD significantly outperforms the prior approaches with an 11.10 boost on the CLIP score and a 33.08% decrease on the CMMD metric. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Facial Action Unit (AU) detection is a crucial task in affective computing and social robotics as it helps to identify emotions expressed through facial expressions. Anatomically, there are innumerable correlations between AUs, which contain rich information and are vital for AU detection. Previous methods used fixed AU correlations based on expert experience or statistical rules on specific benchmarks, but it is challenging to comprehensively reflect complex correlations between AUs via hand-crafted settings. There are alternative methods that employ a fully connected graph to learn these dependencies exhaustively. However, these approaches can result in a computational explosion and high dependency with a large dataset. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel self-adjusting AU-correlation learning (SACL) method with less computation for AU detection. This method adaptively learns and updates AU correlation graphs by efficiently leveraging the characteristics of different levels of AU motion and emotion representation information extracted in different stages of the network. Moreover, this paper explores the role of multi-scale learning in correlation information extraction, and design a simple yet effective multi-scale feature learning (MSFL) method to promote better performance in AU detection. By integrating AU correlation information with multi-scale features, the proposed method obtains a more robust feature representation for the final AU detection. Extensive experiments show that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on widely used AU detection benchmark datasets, with only 28.7% and 12.0% of the parameters and FLOPs of the best method, respectively. Geometric representation of query embeddings (using points, particles, rectangles and cones) can effectively achieve the task of answering complex logical queries expressed in first-order logic (FOL) form over knowledge graphs, allowing intuitive encodings. However, current geometric-based methods depend on the neural approach to model FOL operators (conjunction, disjunction and negation), which are not easily explainable with considerable computation cost. We overcome this challenge by introducing a symbolic modeling approach for the FOL operators, emphasizing the direct calculation of the intersection between geometric shapes, particularly sector-cones in the embedding space, to model the conjunction operator. This approach reduces the computation cost as a non-neural approach is involved in the core logic operators. Moreover, we propose to accelerate the learning in the relation projection operator using the neural approach to emphasize the essential role of this operator in all query structures. Although empirical evidence for explainability is challenging, our approach demonstrates a significant improvement in answering complex logical queries (both non-negative and negative FOL forms) over previous geometric-based models. © 2023 Association for Computational Linguistics.

CDGNet: A Cross-Time Dynamic Graph-Based Deep Learning Model for Vehicle-Based Traffic Speed Forecasting

Vehicle-based traffic speed forecasting aims to predict the average speed of vehicles on the road in the future, which is an essential side information in intelligent vehicles and beneficial to safe autonomous driving, yet is very challenging due to the complex and dynamic spatio-temporal dependencies in real-world vehicle-based traffic. To extract intricate correlations among multiple vehicle-based speed time series, previous methods have used graph convolution networks. However, the conventional static and dynamic graphs fail to reflect the traffic evolution and the hysteresis spatial influence caused by vehicle movement. To address this issue, we propose a novel cross-time dynamic graph-based deep learning model, named CDGNet, for vehicle-based traffic speed forecasting. The model is able to effectively capture hysteresis spatial dependencies between each time slice and its historical time slices through the cross-time dynamic graph-based GCN. Meanwhile, a gating mechanism is integrated into our cross-time dynamic graph, which conforms to the sparse correlation in the real world. Besides, GCNs are incorporated into a novel encoder-decoder architecture to forecast multi-step speed. Experimental results on three real-world vehicle-based traffic speed datasets demonstrate the superiority of our CDGNet over various state-of-the-art spatio-temporal forecasting methods and the effectiveness of each component. We additionally provide a visualization of our cross-time dynamic graph to show the capability of assisting intelligent vehicles to avoid congestion. IEEE

The autonomous number plate detection system plays a crucial role in modern transportation, law enforcement, and security infrastructure. Technical approaches using artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision are actively researched to achieve ease of maintenance through real-time vehicle detection. The recent development has drastically improved the accuracy of object detection and recognition systems in deep neural networks. Using these techniques, vehicle number plates can easily be detected autonomously for vehicle identification and tracking. Here, we have used a custom-trained TensorFlow-based number plate detection method to autonomously detect vehicles using images captured by a smartphone, or surveillance camera. It showed an impressive mAP @ 0.5 of 95%, and demonstrated limitations in long-distance detection, leading us to designate it as the optimal vehicle detection model for accuracy. We designed and developed an autonomous number plate detection system for vehicle identification and tracking, which includes web-based, android-based, and embedded-based applications. In addition, we evaluated the proposed autonomous number plate detection system with real-time images and videos. The proposed system achieved real-time vehicle detection and tracking, boasting a commendable 90% detection accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) function as critical regulators, safeguarding genome stability through mechanisms like transposable element repression and gene stability maintenance, while also being associated with various disease pathways. Developing computationally efficient methods to predict piRNA-disease associations is vital for enhancing disease-specific drug discovery while managing costs. In this study, we present CLPiDA, a novel method for predicting potential piRNA-disease associations. CLPiDA begins by computing gaussian kernel similarities for piRNA-piRNA and disease-disease pairs to establish initial embeddings for piRNAs and diseases. Subsequently, it employs a parameter-sharing online and target network, along with data augmentation techniques, to create a contrastive learning framework. This facilitates the generation of embeddings for piRNAs and diseases using piRNA-disease association pairs. Furthermore, CLPiDA employs a cross-prediction approach to determine association scores for specific piRNAs and diseases. Notably, CLPiDA introduces a novel approach by excluding negative samples, thereby avoiding the introduction of false negatives and enhancing its reliability. Comparative experiments validate CLPiDA's superiority in terms of performance over existing methods. Case studies underscore CLPiDA's efficacy as a valuable tool for predicting piRNA-disease associations, providing valuable insights for biological experiments. In diagnosing challenging conditions such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), while imaging is an important reference, non-image data such as patient information, genetic data, medication information, cognitive and memory tests also play a very important role. However, limited by the ability of artificial intelligence models to mine such information, most of the existing models only use image data, and cannot make comprehensive use of non-image data. We based our approach on an existing pretrained large language model (LLM) to enhance the model's ability to utilize non-image data on diagnosing AD. Our test results on the ADNI dataset show that the approached achieved state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance. © 2023 IEEE.
