Vision-language models (VLMs) pre-trained on large-scale image-text pairs have shown great success in various image tasks. However, how to efficiently transfer such powerful VLMs into video domain is still an open problem. Given that full finetuning VLMs for video tasks could be computationally expensive, recent studies turn their focus on parameter-efficient finetuning (PEFT). The great potential of VLMs lies in leveraging the bidirectional semantic connections between the two modalities of vision and language. Nevertheless, most current PEFT methods use the vision-only framework and usually ignore the semantic connections between vision and language. In this paper, we propose a novel method called BiEfficient, which use bidirectional prompting schemes to efficiently transfer the VLM to video recognition task with a small number of tunable parameters: 1) Vision-to-Language: we propose two prompt mechanisms, Pre-Prompt and Post-Prompt, which act before and after the text encoder respectively to generate discriminative video-level text representation for each input video. 2) Language-to-Vision: we propose Word-Guided Visual-Prompt, which enhances the temporal modeling of videos using textual knowledge in an almost parameter-free manner. Experiments on Kinetics-400, UCF-101, HMDB-51 demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve comparable or even better performance to the full finetuning methods with much fewer tunable parameters across closed-set and zero-shot video recognition benchmarks. Automatic Positioning of Intelligent Mobile Robot Based on Improved Front-End Scanning Matching

Traditional autonomous navigation methods for mobile robots mainly rely on geometric feature-based LiDAR scan-matching algorithms, but in complex environments, this method is often affected due to the presence of moving objects, occlusions, and other interfering factors, resulting in a decrease in positioning accuracy. With the growing demand for robotics applications in logistics, security, exploration and other fields, the need for robust autonomous navigation and high-precision mapping in highly dynamic and complex environments is becoming more and more urgent. To solve this problem, an improved front-end scan matching algorithm based on Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) LiDAR is proposed in this paper. Firstly, by using the target Doppler velocity information provided by the FMCW LiDAR, we design a novel point cloud segmentation algorithm based on velocity clustering, which is able to effectively distinguish between stationary and moving objects, and avoid the dynamic interference affecting the position estimation. Secondly, we introduce the Gaussian Mixture Model Sampling Consistency (GMMSC) algorithm, which is more robust to reject the mis-matched pairs in the scanning matching process and improve the alignment accuracy. Finally, based on the residual high-quality matched pairs, we combine the classical ICP algorithm with the robust kernel function to further enhance the stability of the position estimation in the case of occlusion and local mismatch. The experimental results show that the proposed improved algorithm significantly improves the mapping capability of mobile robots in complex environments compared with the existing techniques. The average relative error of the improved front-end scanning matching algorithm is reduced by 40.6 % compared with the pre-improved one. © 2025, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. 3DSN-Net: A 3-D Scale-Aware convNet With Nonlocal Context Guidance for Kidney and Tumor Segmentation From CT Volumes

Automatic kidney and tumor segmentation from CT volumes is a critical prerequisite/tool for diagnosis and surgical treatment (such as partial nephrectomy). However, it remains a particularly challenging issue as kidneys and tumors often exhibit large-scale variations, irregular shapes, and blurring boundaries. We propose a novel 3-D network to comprehensively tackle these problems;we call it 3DSN-Net. Compared with existing solutions, it has two compelling characteristics. First, with a new scale-aware feature extraction (SAFE) module, the proposed 3DSN-Net is capable of adaptively selecting appropriate receptive fields according to the sizes of targets instead of indiscriminately enlarging them, which is particularly essential for improving the segmentation accuracy of the tumor with large scale variation. Second, we propose a novel yet efficient nonlocal context guidance (NCG) mechanism to capture global dependencies to tackle irregular shapes and blurring boundaries of kidneys and tumors. Instead of directly harnessing a 3-D NCG mechanism, which makes the number of parameters exponentially increase and hence the network difficult to be trained under limited training data, we develop a 2.5D NCG mechanism based on projections of feature cubes, which achieves a tradeoff between segmentation accuracy and network complexity. We extensively evaluate the proposed 3DSN-Net on the famous KiTS dataset with many challenging kidney and tumor cases. Experimental results demonstrate our solution consistently outperforms state-of-the-art 3-D networks after being equipped with scale aware and NCG mechanisms, particularly for tumor segmentation. © 2013 IEEE.

Existing methods for decomposing monolithic applications into microservices in cloud environments primarily rely on the call relationships within itself. However, these methods are difficult to apply directly in resource-constrained and distributed edge network scenarios without considering the heterogeneity of the device. Therefore, this paper proposes a clustering method that ensembles graph structures and device features based on attention mechanism, which utilizes attention encoders to learn node embeddings and employs a spectral clustering algorithm to obtain decomposition results, optimizing the affinity and matching degree between microservices and devices. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits excellent performance in terms of functional independence, modularity, and adaptability of microservices. © 2024 IEEE.

MmRotation: Unlocking Versatility of a Single mmWave Radar via Horizontal Mobility and Azimuthal Rotation

Indoor mmWave-based sensing technologies have garnered substantial interest from both the industrial and academic. Yet, the intrinsic challenge posed by the limited Field-of-View (FOV) of mmWave radars significantly restricts their coverage. This limitation necessitates careful selection of installation positions and orientations to optimize performance, thereby severely curtailing the versatility and widespread adoption of these systems. Traditionally, expanding coverage involved increasing the number of radar units. This paper introduces a novel approach to enhance the FOV by incorporating mobility, achieved by affixing the radar onto a pan-tilt unit capable of rotating along both the horizontal and azimuthal. Nevertheless, the disparity between the pan-tilt and the radar presents significant challenges for accurately rotating the radar's orientation. To mitigate this, we propose an automated calibration algorithm for radar and pan-tilt, ensuring precise calibration. Additionally, we have devised a radar orientation adjustment algorithm intended to automatically align the radar's FOV with the positions of detected objects to facilitate various applications. Through three case studies, we have demonstrated that mmRotation can greatly expand the sensing range, enabling support for multiple applications on a single radar, such as vital signs monitoring and fall detection. Comprehensive experimental results underscore that our system surpasses the current state-of-the-art (SOTA). © 2002-2012 IEEE.

A path planning method based on deep reinforcement learning for crowd evacuation

Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) is suitable for solving complex path-planning problems due to its excellent ability to make continuous decisions in a complex environment. However, the increase in the population size in the crowd evacuation path-planning problem causes a substantial computational burden for the algorithm, which leads to an unsatisfactory efficiency of the current DRL algorithm. This paper presents a path planning method based on DRL for crowd evacuation to solve the problem. First, we divide crowds into groups based on their relationship and distance from each other and select leaders from them. Next, we expand the Multi-Agent Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (MADDPG) to propose an Optimized Multi-Agent Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (OMADDPG) algorithm to obtain the global evacuation path. The OMADDPG algorithm uses the Cross-Entropy Method (CEM) to optimize policy and improve the neural network’s training efficiency by applying the Data Pruning (DP) algorithm. In addition, the social force model is improved, incorporating the relationship between individuals and psychological factors into the model. Finally, this paper combines the improved social force model and the OMADDPG algorithm. The OMADDPG algorithm transmits the path information to the leaders. Pedestrians in the environment are driven by the improved social force model to follow the leaders to complete the evacuation simulation. The method can use a leader to guide pedestrians safely arrive the exit and reduce evacuation time in different environments. Performance-Guaranteed Finite-Time Tracking of Strict-Feedback Systems with Unknown Control Directions: A Novel Switching Mechanism

The problem of achieving performance-guaranteed finite-time exact tracking for uncertain strict-feedback nonlinear systems with unknown control directions is addressed. A novel logic switching mechanism with monitoring functions is designed to deal with unknown control directions. This approach is different from existing methods like the Nussbaum gain technique and smooth orientation functions, which are inapplicable to finite-time exact tracking. The main challenge lies in designing monitoring functions and determining switching rules, which is well resolved through three steps. Most significantly, in contrast to existing works that solely guarantee bounded tracking or asymptotic exact tracking, the new mechanism incorporates novel integral sliding mode techniques to achieve finite-time exact tracking with guaranteed performance. Finally, simulations are presented with comparison to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

A Credible and Fair Federated Learning Framework Based on Blockchain

Federated learning (FL) enables cooperative computation between multiple participants while protecting user privacy. Currently, FL algorithms assume that all participants are trustworthy and their systems are secure. However, the following problems arise in real-world scenarios: 1) Malicious clients disrupt FL through model poisoning and data poisoning attacks. Although some research has proposed secure aggregation methods to solve this problem, most methods have limitations. 2) The current method cannot fairly evaluate client contribution in some scenarios. Some clients exhibit free-rider behavior, seeking to cheat the reward system and manipulate global models. Evaluating client contribution and distributing rewards also present challenges. To address these challenges, we design a trustworthy federated framework to ensure secure computing throughout the federated task process. First, we propose a method of detecting malicious models to guarantee secure model aggregation. Then, we propose a fair method of assessing contribution to identify client-side free-riding behavior. Finally, we implement a computation process based on blockchain and smart contracts to guarantee the trustworthiness and fairness of federated tasks. To validate the performance of our framework, we simulate different types of client attacks and contribution evaluation scenarios on several open-source datasets. The experiments show that our framework ensures the credibility of federated tasks and achieves a fair evaluation of client contributions. © 2020 IEEE.

Applying SVR-PPSO, SVR-SSO, and SVR-BBO to estimate california bearing capacity of stabilized pond ash using admixtures

In the present study, three hybrid models include support vector regression-salp swarm optimization (SVR-SSO), support vector regression-biogeography-based (SVR-BBO), and support vector regression-phasor particle swarm optimization (SVR- PPSO) was applied to forecast pond ash's CBR value modified with lime sludge (LS) and lime (LI). In the developed models, five variables were selected as inputs. It can result that the developed integrated models have R2 bigger than 0.9952. It means the agreement between observed and forecasted values by hybrid models is mainly similar to represent the highest accuracy. In both the training and testing stages, PSO-SVR results from better performance than the BBO-SVR model, with R2, RMSE, MAE, and PI equal to 0.9983, 0.6439, 0.3181, and 0.0081 for training data, and 0.9975, 0.7319, 0.4135, and 0.0141 for testing data, respectively. So, by considering the OBJ index, the OBJ value for PSO-SVR is 12.966, lower than BBO-SVR at 16.9957. Therefore, the PSO-SVR model outperforms another model to estimate the CBR of pond ash modified with LI and LS, consequently being recognized as the proposed model that makes it to be used for practical applications. © 2024 - IOS Press.
