3D novelty detection plays a crucial role in various real-world applications, especially in safety-critical fields such as autonomous driving and intelligent surveillance systems. However, existing 3D novelty detection methods are constrained by the scarcity of 3D data, which may impede the model's ability to learn adequate representations, thereby impacting detection accuracy. To address this challenge, we propose a Unified Learning Framework (UniL) for facilitating novelty detection. During the pretraining phase, UniL assists the point cloud encoder in learning information from other modalities, aligning visual, textual, and 3D features within the same feature space. Additionally, we introduce a novel Multimodal Supervised Contrastive Loss (MSC Loss) to improve the model's ability to cluster samples from the same category in feature space by leveraging label information during pretraining. Furthermore, we propose a straightforward yet powerful scoring method, Depth Map Error (DME), which assesses the discrepancy between projected depth maps before and after point cloud reconstruction during novelty detection. Extensive experiments conducted on 3DOS have demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach, significantly enhancing the performance of the unsupervised VAE method in 3D novelty detection. Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a growing global health concern, and early diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment. Efforts are underway to produce digital pathology tools with human-level intelligence that are efficient, scalable, accessible, and cost-effective. Microscopic images have high resolution, where cells are enormous and dense. Therefore, the annotation process is time-consuming and complex for tasks such as segmentation due to pixel-level marking. In this paper, we design an end-to-end weakly supervised myeloma cell segmentation framework based on point annotation. It can achieve accurate cell segmentation comparable to fully supervised methods while reducing the need for manual annotation, greatly shortening annotation time. Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves 98% of its fully-supervised performance with only 10 annotated random points per instance, and outperforms the fully-supervised Mask RCNN. © 2023 IEEE.

Intelligent devices often produce time series data that suffer from significant data quality issues. While the utilization of data dependency in error detection and data repair has been somewhat beneficial, it remains inadequate in accurately representing the data quality of time series datasets. In recognition of the obvious characteristics inherent in time series data, we introduce a novel data dependency, termed TSDD. It effectively captures the contextual relationships embedded within multivariate time series, thereby enhancing the semantic richness of data quality representations. We analyze the complexity of both implication and consistency problems for TSDD reasoning, and develop TSDD discovery algorithm TSDDISCOVER, which consists of functional structure discovery, allowable error bound determination, and validation of TSDD patterns. Experimental results on real-life datasets verify TSDDISCOVER efficiently discovers high-quality TSDD patterns. In comparing the performance of TSDD-based error detection with several leading data quality constraints, our findings reveal that the former achieves an average improvement of 12% in accuracy and 30% in the F1 score over other dependency-based detection methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Long-tailed semi-supervised learning poses a significant challenge in training models with limited labeled data exhibiting a long-tailed label distribution. Current state-of-the-art LTSSL approaches heavily rely on high-quality pseudo-labels for large-scale unlabeled data. However, these methods often neglect the impact of representations learned by the neural network and struggle with real-world unlabeled data, which typically follows a different distribution than labeled data. This paper introduces a novel probabilistic framework that unifies various recent proposals in long-tail learning. Our framework derives the class-balanced contrastive loss through Gaussian kernel density estimation. We introduce a continuous contrastive learning method, CCL, extending our framework to unlabeled data using reliable and smoothed pseudo-labels. By progressively estimating the underlying label distribution and optimizing its alignment with model predictions, we tackle the diverse distribution of unlabeled data in real-world scenarios. Extensive experiments across multiple datasets with varying unlabeled data distributions demonstrate that CCL consistently outperforms prior state-of-the-art methods, achieving over 4% improvement on the ImageNet-127 dataset. The rapid proliferation of some real-time applications (e.g., video surveillance) has driven enormous interest in maximizing information freshness, quantified by the age of information (AoI). For some computation-intensive updates such as images or videos, the real-time update processing requires intensive resources, which edge servers can provide in mobile edge computing (MEC). In this paper, we investigate information updating scheduling with multiple users in MEC. Due to the centralized algorithms' limitations in distributed systems where users are self-interested, we investigate an efficient distributed scheduling algorithm. We model the information updating scheduling as an uncooperative game and propose a distributed algorithm to compute the unique Nash equilibrium. Considering the unavailability of some global network information, we propose a learning algorithm where each user learns how to make decisions based on observable information in a distributed manner. Extensive evaluation results show the efficiency of the proposed algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we introduce a new dataset for air conditioner refrigerant leak smoke detection, called ACRL-10K. The dataset is designed to develop algorithms for detecting refrigerant leak smoke faults during air conditioner recycling. It contains a total of 10, 724 images covering three common scenarios of air conditioner refrigerant leak: loading port, refrigerant extraction, and disassembly. All images are sourced from 656 video segments of real air conditioner recycling scenarios, captured by surveillance cameras deployed on an environmental company's recycling production line. The annotations for the refrigerant leak smoke in the images are performed by industry experts to ensure high accuracy and consistency. To the best of our knowledge, ACRL-10K is the first dataset specifically designed for refrigerant leak smoke detection. Based on the ACRL-10K dataset, we present the performance of mainstream object detectors, including the YOLO series, as a baseline to conduct the following work: 1) preliminarily summarize the challenges of using the dataset for refrigerant leak smoke detection;2) show the detection results of benchmark methods;and 3) make a comparison to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the baseline algorithms. In practice, the ACRL-10K dataset would hopefully advance research and applications in refrigerant leak early warning during air conditioner dismantling and recycling processes. © 2025 IEEE.

This research paper describes and extends the outcomes from an in- depth study investigating the difference in the expected skills requirements from junior software engineers to senior software engineers, and reflections on the findings from that study. It is a given that senior software engineers have more experience and skills than junior software engineers. However, a focus on their differing competencies and dispositions provides an enhanced mechanism for comparison. Gaps were identified in assessing 'professional knowledge' as categorized by the IEEE/ACM Computing Curriculum Overview Report (CC2020), and in assessing 'dispositions'. It appeared that the specific scenario of comparing the expected competencies between junior and senior software engineers, tested the framework for assessing competencies developed in the CC2020 project and applied in its mapping to the IEEE/ACM computer science (CS2013) approved curriculum. In this study into the difference between Junior and Senior software Engineers, an initial review of relevant literature was conducted. The review found that research analyzing job requirements for software engineers of different levels was limited;'experience' as a keyword was seldom mentioned;and a common distinction was made between 'soft' and 'hard' skills - the latter being skills that were 'technical', such as programming languages, frameworks, libraries, and tools, whereas soft skills referred to skills such as personality traits, attitudes, and teamwork skills. In our extension of that work the notion of soft skills was unpacked into professional skills and dispositions. The process of mapping from the CC2020 competency framework to the CS2013 curriculum had deliberately modelled how to represent a competency-based rather than a knowledge-based curriculum. In spite of machine learning's rapid growth, its engineering support is scattered in many forms, and tends to favor certain engineering stages, stakeholders, and evaluation preferences. We envision a capability-based framework, which uses fine-grained specifications for ML model behaviors to unite existing efforts towards better ML engineering. We use concrete scenarios (model design, debugging, and maintenance) to articulate capabilities' broad applications across various different dimensions, and their impact on building safer, more generalizable and more trustworthy models that reflect human needs. Through preliminary experiments, we show the potential of capabilities for reflecting model generalizability, which can provide guidance for the ML engineering process. Pedestrian search is a combined task of pedestrian detection and pedestrian re-identification, i.e., how to find a specific pedestrian in a panoramic picture. However, due to the impact of different imaging conditions and environments, the accuracy of pedestrian search is still low at present, which is difficult to meet the needs of practical applications. To improve the accuracy of pedestrian search, this paper proposes PSA-CLNet pedestrian search method, which integrates polarized self-attention mechanism (PSA) and cosine online instance matching (COIM) loss. Firstly, the channel attention is added to enhance the pedestrian feature information and improve the expression ability of the feature information. Secondly, spatial attention is added to enhance the areas that have more contribution to the pedestrian search task to increase the correlation between the pictures and improve the recognition ability. Meanwhile, this paper proposes a COIM loss based on the online instance matching (OIM) loss. The loss function can enlarge the class distance between pedestrians and background, and reduce the class distance between pedestrians. This could improve the accuracy of pedestrian search algorithm effectively. Finally, this paper uses ResNet as the main backbone network to verify the proposed method. The pedestrian search method proposed in this paper could achieve 96.60% of mAP index and 96.83% of top-1 index in CUHK-SYSU dataset, and achieve 48.78% of mAP index and 88.38% of top-1 index in PRW dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

Accurate precipitation nowcasting can provide great convenience to the public so they can conduct corresponding arrangements in advance to deal with the possible impact of upcoming heavy *** relevant research activities have shown their concerns on various deep learning models for radar echo extrapolation,where radar echo maps were used to predict their consequent moment,so as to recognize potential severe convective weather ***,these approaches suffer from an inaccurate prediction of echo dynamics and unreliable depiction of echo aggregation or dissipation,due to the size limitation of convolution filter,lack of global feature,and less attention to features from previous *** address the problems,this paper proposes a CEMA-LSTM recurrent unit,which is embedded with a Contextual Feature Correlation Enhancement Block(CEB)and a Multi-Attention Mechanism Block(MAB).The CEB enhances contextual feature correlation and supports its model to memorize significant features for near-future prediction;the MAB uses a position and channel attention mechanism to capture global features of radar *** practical radar echo datasets were used involving the FREM and CIKM 2017 *** quantification and visualization of comparative experimental results have demonstrated outperformance of the proposed CEMA-LSTMover recentmodels,e.g.,PhyDNet,MIM and PredRNN++,*** particular,compared with the second-rankedmodel,its average POD,FAR and CSI have been improved by 3.87%,1.65%and 1.79%,respectively on the FREM,and by 1.42%,5.60%and 3.16%,respectively on the CIKM 2017.
