In the paper, for many-objective optimization problems, the authors pointed out that the Pareto Optimality is unfair, unreasonable and imperfect for Many-objective Optimization Problems (MOPs) underlying the hypothesis that all objectives have equal importance and propose a new evolutionary decision theory. The key contribution is the discovery of the new definition of optimality called E-optimality for MOP that is based on a new conception, so called E-dominance, which not only considers the difference of the number of superior and inferior objectives between two feasible solutions, but also considers the values of improved objective functions underlying the hypothesis that all objectives in the problem have equal importance. Two new evolutionary algorithms for E-optimal solutions are proposed. Because the new relation < E of E-dominance is not transitive, so a new way must be found for consideration of convergence properties of algorithms. A Boolean function better used as a select strategy is defined. The convergence theorems of the new evolutionary algorithms are proved. Some numerical experiments show that the new evolutionary decision theory is better than Pareto decision theory for many-objective function optimization problems.

Multilocus association analysis into susceptibility genes of schizophrenia

A model based on multilocus interaction of schizophrenia was designed. Using the program of MATLAB through a C-language interface, combined with Fisher's exact test, a total of 18 SNPs that came from 9 susceptibility genes of the cPLA2 and PNPLA8 family were analyzed to detect positive sites of schizophrenia in multilocus association analysis. Results show that 4 positive sites at rs3816533, rsl668589, rsl356410 and rs40848 were detected in 13 SNPs, which did not deviate from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (P>0.05). The haplotype significance test of these positive sites indicates that 6 haplotypes passing through rs3816533, rsl668589, rsl356410 and 2 haplotypes passing through rs40848 are associated with schizophrenia.

By using the ATLAS detector, observations have been made of a centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry in the collisions of lead ions at the Large Hadron Collider. In a sample of lead-lead events with a per-nucleon center of mass energy of 2.76 TeV, selected with a minimum bias trigger, jets are reconstructed in fine-grained, longitudinally segmented electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters. The transverse energies of dijets in opposite hemispheres are observed to become systematically more unbalanced with increasing event centrality leading to a large number of events which contain highly asymmetric dijets. This is the first observation of an enhancement of events with such large dijet asymmetries, not observed in proton-proton collisions, which may point to an interpretation in terms of strong jet energy loss in a hot, dense medium.

Dynamic watermarking scheme based on the Shamir threshold and branch structure

A novel dynamic software watermark scheme based on the Shamir threshold and branch structure is presented. First, we split the watermark into a set of shares using the Shamir threshold scheme. Second, these values are encrypted with the DES block cipher that forms the watermark shares to be embedded into different methods of program according to the dynamic behavior of the branch structure. Our scheme can withstand most semantics-preserving attacks and can retrieve the original watermark based on partial information. Simulation tests show that our scheme is very robust, stealthy and has a high price performance rate compared with other methods.

SimWall:a practical user-friendly stereo tiled display wall system

SimWall is a user-friendly, stereo tiled display wall system composed of 18 commodity projectors operated by a Linux graphics cluster. Collaborating together, these projectors work as a single logical display capable of giving a high-resolution show, large-scale, and passive stereo scene. In order to avoid tedious system setup and maintenance, software-based automatic geometry and photometric calibration are used. The software calibration is integrated to the system seamlessly by an on-card transform method and is transparent to users. To end-users, SimWall works just as a common PC, but provides super computing, rendering and displaying ability. In addition, SimWall has stereoscopic function that gives users a semi-immersive experience in polarized passive way. This paper presents system architecture, implementation, and other technical issues such as hardware constraints, projectors alignment, geometry and photometric calibration, implementation of passive stereo, and development of overall soft- ware environment.

A flexible architecture for job management in a grid environment

Job management is a key issue in computational grids, and normally involves job definition, scheduling, executing and monitoring. However, job management in the existing grid middleware needs to be improved in terms of efficiency and flexibility. This paper addresses a flexible architecture for job management with detailed design and implementation. Frameworks for job scheduling and monitoring, as two important aspects, are also presented. The proposed job management has the advantages of reusability of job definition, flexible and automatic file operation, visual steering of file transfer and job execution, and adaptive application job scheduler. A job management wizard is designed to implement each step. Therefore, what the grid user needs to do is only to define the job by constructing necessary information at runtime. In addition, the job space is adopted to ensure the security of the job management. Experimental results showed that this approach is user-friendly and system efficient.

The ability to inject dopant atoms with high spatial resolution, flexibility in dopant species, and high single ion detection fidelity opens opportunities for the study of dopant fluctuation effects and the development of devices in which function is based on the manipulation of quantum states in single atoms, such as proposed quantum computers. The authors describe a single atom injector, in which the imaging and alignment capabilities of a scanning force microscope (SFM) are integrated with ion beams from a series of ion sources and with sensitive detection of current transients induced by incident ions. Ion beams are collimated by a small hole in the SFM tip and current changes induced by single ion impacts in transistor channels enable reliable detection of single ion hits. They discuss resolution limiting factors in ion placement and processing and paths to single atom (and color center) array formation for systematic testing of quantum computer architectures in silicon and diamond. © 2008 American Vacuum Society.

Recently, combining a video recording of a presentation along with the digital slides used in it has become popular in e-learning and presentation of archives. For users of the archives, it is useful to preview a digest of such content to grasp the atmosphere and/or an outline of the presentation. This paper proposes a method of automatic digest generation by extracting important scenes from the presentation content. The extracted scenes are chosen based on several factors such as frequency and specificity of words, scene duration and order. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed methods are evaluated by comparing with testers' answer sets for actual lectures.

In this paper, we develop a highly accurate parallel software scanned cell projection algorithm (PSSCPA) which is applicable of any classification system. This algorithm could handle both convex and non-convex meshes, and provide maximum flexibilities in applicable types of cells. Compared with previous algorithms using 3D commodity graphics hardware, it introduces no the volume decomposition and rendering artifacts in the resulting images. Finally, high resolution images generated by the algorithm are provided, and the scalability of the algorithm is demonstrated on a PC Cluster with modest parallel resources. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
