In this paper, we show that the tracking performance of a hard disk drive actuator can be improved by using two adaptive neural networks, each of which is tailored for a specific task. The first neural network utilizes accelerometer signal to detect external vibrations, and compensates for its effect on hard disk drive position via feedforward action. In particular, no information on the plant, sensor and disturbance dynamics is needed in the design of this neural network disturbance compensator. The second neural network, designed to compensate for the pivot friction, uses a signum activation function to introduce nonlinearities inherent to pivot friction, thus reducing the neural network¿s burden of expectation. The stability of the proposed scheme is analyzed by the Lyapunov criterion. Simulation results show that the tracking performance of the hard disk drives can be improved significantly with the use of both neural networks compared to the case without compensation, or when only one of the networks is activated.

VV and A is risk-driven activity, and FMECA is a widely used risk analysis method. Based on them, a new method, aiming to M and S (Modeling and Simulation) domain and named SimFMECA, was put forward. Firstly, FMECA analysis table and process was extended, then a framework of FMI to general simulation system was discussed, moreover, a risk and criticality ranking measure was proposed, and according to the risk rank, required VV and A effort was identified, including VV and A level and VV and A activities. Finally an experiment was carried out to validate SimFMECA. SimFMECA is a qualitative method, and is characteristic of low cost and easy implementation.

A novel dynamic software watermark scheme based on the Shamir threshold and branch structure is presented. First, we split the watermark into a set of shares using the Shamir threshold scheme. Second, these values are encrypted with the DES block cipher that forms the watermark shares to be embedded into different methods of program according to the dynamic behavior of the branch structure. Our scheme can withstand most semantics-preserving attacks and can retrieve the original watermark based on partial information. Simulation tests show that our scheme is very robust, stealthy and has a high price performance rate compared with other methods.

A kind of output-feedback networked control system was addressed to overcome the defect of feedback lag introduced by the network usage in the networked control system. By introducing a plant model and a buffer into this system, when feedback was available, this system could compute the control output and update the plant model with the plant output, otherwise, compute the control output based on the plant model output instead of plant output. On the condition that the plant was SISO and the error between plant and model existed, the necessary and sufficient condition for closed-loop stability of this system was derived. Simulation indicates that the range of model error within which this system is stable is easy to be derived by using this necessary and sufficient condition.

Adaptive an wavelet backstepping control (WARBC) systems is proposed for electro-hydraulic servo systems. Two wavelet neural networks are used to approach the arbitrary model uncertainties of electro-hydraulic servo system, and all their weights are trained online. Novel update and control laws are proposed to guarantee that all the signals in the closed-loop control system are uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) in a Lyapunov sense. As a result, the aim of electro-hydraulic servo system's tracking control can be achieved. In addition, a robust compensator is designed to improve the tracking performance. Finally, a computer simulation example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the suggested proposal.

This paper Investigates Hamiltonian realization of time-varying nonlinear (TVN) systems, and proposes a number of new methods for the problem. It is shown that every smooth TVN system can be expressed as a generalized Hamiltonian system if the origin is the equilibrium of the system. If the Jacooian matrix of a TVN system is nonsingular, the system has a generalized Hamiltonian realization whose structural matrix and Hamiltonian function are given explicitly. For the case that the Jacobian matrix is sin- gular; this paper provides a constructive decomposition method, and then proves that a TVN system has a generalized Hamiltonian realization if its Jacobian matrix has a non- singular main diagonal block. Furthermore, some sufficient (necessary and sufficient) conditions for dissipative Hamiltonian realization of TVN systems are also presented in this paper.

Based on the property of Human vision system (HVS) that human eye's sensitivity to an image varies with different information regions of the image, Pulse-coupled neural network (PCNN) model is modified for image segmentation. The modified PCNN stimulated by an input image has pulse output with multiple pulse values rather than only two in the conventional PCNN, according to the local information rate of the input image. This results in image segmentation according to local information rate delivered from the image by the modified PCNN. Experiments with the modified PCNN on image segmentation and image compression on the segmented images with the principle that the lower information rate is, the higher compression rate is applied, show much better performance in compression rate compared with that on the segmented images with the conventional PCNN.
