Analysis of oxygen saturation detection method on intelligent mobile devices

With the fast development of mobile devices and great concern on health surveillance, it is becoming increasingly popular to collect, analyze, and interpret people's health-related data by using intelligent mobile devices in their daily life. Oxygen saturation is an important physiological parameter referring to the concentration of oxygen in the blood, and prolonged low oxygen levels may lead to respiratory or cardiac arrest. Previous oxygen saturation detection methods require infrared light, however most of the off-the-shelf mobile devices lack such infrared light transmitter and receiver modules. This paper presents a novel oxygen saturation estimation method emplying a RGB camera and visible light in most of mobile devices. By applying of traditional optical oxygen saturation estimation model to mobile devices, and analyzing its problem for those devices, this study proposes a new oxygen saturation estimation model on intelligent mobile devices and offers an approach to solve the baseline drift problem in mobile cameras. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and its potentials in many oxygen saturation based researches such as daily-activity based healthcare with mobile devices. © Copyright 2015, Institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of sciences. Compressed Gradient Tracking Algorithms for Distributed Nonconvex Optimization

In this paper, we study the distributed nonconvex optimization problem, aiming to minimize the average value of the local nonconvex cost functions using local information exchange. To reduce the communication overhead, we introduce three general classes of compressors, i.e., compressors with bounded relative compression error, compressors with globally bounded absolute compression error, and compressors with locally bounded absolute compression error. By integrating them, respectively, with the distributed gradient tracking algorithm, we then propose three corresponding compressed distributed nonconvex optimization algorithms. Motivated by the state-of-the-art BEER algorithm proposed in [1], which is an efficient compressed algorithm integrating gradient tracking with biased and contractive compressors, our first proposed algorithm extends this algorithm to accommodate both biased and non-contractive compressors. For each algorithm, we design a novel Lyapunov function to demonstrate its sublinear convergence to a stationary point if the local cost functions are smooth. Furthermore, when the global cost function satisfies the Polyak–Lojasiewicz (P–L) condition, we show that our proposed algorithms linearly converge to a global optimal point. It is worth noting that, for compressors with bounded relative compression error and globally bounded absolute compression error, our proposed algorithms’ parameters do not require prior knowledge of the P–L constant. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical examples, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms in significantly reducing the communication burden while maintaining the convergence performance. Moreover, simulation results show that the proposed algorithms outperform the state-of-the-art compressed distributed nonconvex optimization algorithms. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Secure State Estimation against Sparse Attacks on a Time-varying Set of Sensors

This paper studies the problem of secure state estimation of a linear time-invariant (LTI) system with bounded noise in the presence of sparse attacks on an unknown, time-varying set of sensors. In other words, at each time, the attacker has the freedom to choose an arbitrary set of no more that p sensors and manipulate their measurements without restraint. To this end, we propose a secure state estimation scheme and guarantee a bounded estimation error subject to 2p-sparse observability and a mild, technical assumption that the system matrix has no degenerate eigenvalues. The proposed scheme comprises a design of decentralized observer for each sensor based on the local observable subspace decomposition. At each time step, the local estimates of sensors are fused by a median operator to obtain a secure estimation, which is then followed by a local detection-and-resetting process of the decentralized observers. The estimation error is shown to be upper-bounded by a constant which is determined only by the system parameters and noise magnitudes. Moreover, we design the detector threshold to ensure that the benign sensors never trigger the detector. The efficacy of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by its application on a benchmark example of IEEE 14-bus system. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

As an important cyber-physical system (CPS), smart grid is highly vulnerable to cyber attacks. Amongst various types of attacks, false data injection attack (FDIA) proves to be one of the top-priority cyber-related issues and has received increasing attention in recent years. However, so far little attention has been paid to privacy preservation issues in the detection of FDIAs in smart grids. Inspired by federated learning, a FDIA detection method based on secure federated deep learning is proposed in this paper by combining Transformer, federated learning and Paillier cryptosystem. The Transformer, as a detector deployed in edge nodes, delves deep into the connection between individual electrical quantities by using its multi-head self-attention mechanism. By using federated learning framework, our approach utilizes the data from all nodes to collaboratively train a detection model while preserving data privacy by keeping the data locally during training. To improve the security of federated learning, a secure federated learning scheme is designed by combing Paillier cryptosystem with federated learning. Through extensive experiments on the IEEE 14-bus and 118-bus test systems, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are verified. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Data-driven gradient algorithm for high-precision quantum control

In the quest to achieve scalable quantum information processing technologies, gradient-based optimal control algorithms (e.g., grape) are broadly used for implementing high-precision quantum gates, but their performance is often hindered by deterministic or random errors in the system model and the control electronics. In this paper, we show that grape can be taught to be more effective by jointly learning from the design model and the experimental data obtained from process tomography. The resulting data-driven gradient optimization algorithm (d-grape) can in principle correct all deterministic gate errors, with a mild efficiency loss. The d-grape algorithm may become more powerful with broadband controls that involve a large number of control parameters, while other algorithms usually slow down due to the increased size of the search space. These advantages are demonstrated by simulating the implementation of a two-qubit controlled-not gate.

Dynamic multiobjective optimization problems (DMOPs) present significant challenges to conventional evolutionary optimization methods because of the continuous changes in their Pareto-optimal sets (PSs) and fronts (PFs). Prediction-driven approaches have demonstrated potential in rapidly adapting to these changes. However, many existing methods depend on linear models to forecast the evolving PSs, which may be restrictive. To counteract this limitation, this research presents a novel dynamic multiobjective evolutionary optimization algorithm that incorporates predictions from long short-term memory (LSTM) networks. Initially, in our methodology, the PS for each problem is segmented into multiple clusters, and the centroid of each cluster is identified. These cluster centroids, representing the PSs across various environmental conditions, are then transformed into a series of time series data. The LSTM network models are subsequently trained on this time series data as input samples. Utilizing these refined models, the centroids of the evolving PSs are predicted with improved precision. Moreover, to enhance the performance of the algorithm, an innovative population-generation strategy is also introduced that guarantees a well-converged and diverse starting population. Our proposed algorithm undergoes rigorous testing using benchmark functions, and the outcomes validate its proficiency in tackling DMOPs, showing superior performance compared to existing state-of-the-art algorithms. © 2024, The Authors. Cluster analysis is important in scientific and industrial fields. In this study, we proposed a novel chaotic biogeography-based optimization (CBBO) method, and applied it in centroid-based clustering methods. The results over three types of simulation data showed that this proposed CBBO method gave better performance than chaotic particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, firefly algorithm, and quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization. In all, our CBBO method is effective in centroid-based clustering.

In this paper, we present a new approach to estimate the pose of an object being manipulated by a multi-fingered robotic hand. The method utilizes advanced tactile sensors with high spatial resolution to optimize the estimation of the object's pose using an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) based approach. We defined and derived the state and measurement equations, as well as evaluated the estimation accuracy in grasping tasks. The approach is able to effectively account for the pose transition caused by tactile pushing, and the mapping from the object's pose to the contact position and normal direction as measured by the tactile sensor. The method was evaluated in multiple grasping experiments in simulation scenarios. Results show that the estimation can converge towards the ground truth in a relatively short period of time, with displacement and rotation errors remaining within acceptable levels. This new method has the potential to improve the accuracy and reliability of robotic grasping and manipulation tasks.

This paper introduces a model for the dynamics of a sorption process from the industrial water supply and sewage treatment industries that is a continuous version of the Roesser state-space model for 2D discrete systems. Conditions for unique solvability and the representation formula are then developed together with the solution of an optimization problem using boundary control. The solution of this optimization problem by state feedback is also developed.

Soft bionic fingers can grasp some fragile items in order to prevent damage to the objects during the grasping process. Therefore, a bionic finger driven by dielectric elastomer which has the bending feature is designed. The experiment bending characteristics of the finger are tested separately on the different variables such as the number of dielectric elastomer layers and the pre-stretched ratio. When the length and pre-stretched ratio of the finger on single-layer dielectric elastomer are 70 mm and 2.5 separately, the maximum bending angle is 6 degree under the applied voltage 820 V. When the length and pre-stretched ratio of the finger on double-layer dielectric elastomer are 68 mm and 2.5 separately, the bending angle of double-layer film is 13 degree under the applied voltage 650 V. A larger bending angle will be improved on the change of the structural variables and the function of the gripper will be realized.
