Ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of hydraulic infrastructures is paramount, considering the widespread consequences that damages can inflict on people, communities, and the environment. To mitigate risks and prevent significant losses, continuous surveillance is vital. While some damages might appear minor, they can jeopardize the complete operational reliability of dams, leading to substantial economic losses, especially in energy production and related activities. The rapid growth in 20th-century infrastructure development globally has made security monitoring a necessity for numerous civil structures. Rigorous inspection programs, particularly for reservoir dams, are essential for safeguarding citizens and their properties. However, individually monitoring each dam is often impractical due to the associated costs and time constraints, potentially posing safety risks. Fortunately, satellite-based differential radar interferometry (DInSAR) offers an effective and cost-efficient remote sensing solution. Multi-temporal Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (MT-InSAR) techniques, particularly utilizing Persistent Scatterers, have proven successful in monitoring various infrastructures, natural phenomena, and geological activities. MT-InSAR provides precise measurements without the need for fieldwork, utilizing historical SAR image archives dating back to the 1990s. Technological advancements, such as the Sentinel-1 C-band with a six-day revisit time until the end of 2021, have enhanced monitoring capabilities. Additionally, commercial radar images in the X-band and the development of multi-interferometric InSAR techniques have opened new avenues for monitoring. This study showcases the adaptation and application of MT-InSAR for monitoring dams and large ponds constructed with loose materials. This study aims to delineate the origin, purpose, process, and results of the research, focusing on investigating the impact of different exterior wall materials on outdoor thermal indicators in Nagoya, Japan. The ultimate goal is to mitigate the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect and improve urban outdoor thermal comfort. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is employed to evaluate two types of exterior wall materials: diffuse highly reflective (DHR) and retro-reflective (RR) materials. The research process involves assessing various outdoor thermal indices, such as wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT), standard effective temperature (SET*), and univ.rsal thermal climate index (UTCI), in order to comprehend the thermal performance of each material. The results of the study indicate that the RR material consistently outperforms the DHR material in terms of outdoor thermal comfort, despite having slightly lower solar reflectance. This is supported by lower surface temperatures and surface heat flow associated with the RR material, suggesting reduced indoor cooling loads and significant energy savings for cooling purposes. These findings highlight the potential of RR material in mitigating the UHI effect and enhancing urban outdoor thermal conditions. By establishing a critical relationship between exterior wall materials and outdoor thermal indicators, this study proposes the adoption of RR materials for urban building exteriors as a sustainable and economically viable solution to improve urban outdoor thermal comfort and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Current-induced spin-orbit torques (SOTs) are of interest for fast and energy-efficient manipulation of magnetic order in spintronic devices. To be deterministic, however, switching of perpendicularly magnetized materials by SOT requires a mechanism for in-plane symmetry breaking. Existing methods to do so involve the application of an in-plane bias magnetic field, or incorporation of in-plane structural asymmetry in the device, both of which can be difficult to implement in practical applications. Here, we report bias-field-free SOT switching in a single perpendicular CoTb layer with an engineered vertical composition gradient. The vertical structural inversion asymmetry induces strong intrinsic SOTs and a gradient-driven Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (g-DMI), which breaks the in-plane symmetry during the switching process. Micromagnetic simulations are in agreement with experimental results, and elucidate the role of g-DMI in the deterministic switching. This bias-field-free switching scheme for perpendicular ferrimagnets with g-DMI provides a strategy for efficient and compact SOT device design. © 2021, CC BY.

Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) has been extensively utilized in many real-life applications because it benefits from the detailed spectral information contained in each pixel. Notably, the complex characteristics i.e., the nonlinear relation among the captured spectral information and the corresponding object of HSI data make accurate classification challenging for traditional methods. In the last few years, Deep Learning (DL) has been substantiated as a powerful feature extractor that effectively addresses the nonlinear problems that appeared in a number of computer vision tasks. This prompts the deployment of DL for HSI classification (HSIC) which revealed good performance. This survey enlists a systematic overview of DL for HSIC and compared state-of-the-art strategies of the said topic. Primarily, we will encapsulate the main challenges of traditional machine learning for HSIC and then we will acquaint the superiority of DL to address these problems. This survey breakdown the state-of-the-art DL frameworks into spectral-features, spatial-features, and together spatial-spectral features to systematically analyze the achievements (future research directions as well) of these frameworks for HSIC. Moreover, we will consider the fact that DL requires a large number of labeled training examples whereas acquiring such a number for HSIC is challenging in terms of time and cost. Therefore, this survey discusses some strategies to improve the generalization performance of DL strategies which can provide some future guidelines. © 2021, CC BY.

This paper investigates the problem of model aggregation for the federated learning aided by multiple intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs). Since the local parameters are transmitted over wireless channels, the undesirable propagation error will inevitably deteriorate the performance of global aggregation. The objective of this work is to reduce the signal distortion of over-the-air computation, thus the mean-square-error (MSE) is minimized by optimizing the transmit power at devices, controlling the receive scalar at the base station, and designing the phase shifts at IRSs, subject to the transmit power constraint for devices and the unit-modulus constraint for reflecting elements. To solve this intractable MSE minimization problem (P1), a closed-form expression for transmit power allocation is first derived, and the receive-scaling control subproblem (P2) is addressed by using the semidefinite relaxation. Then, the phase-shifting design subproblem (P3) is reduced to a feasibility-check problem, which is tackled by invoking the penalty method and successive convex approximation. After that, an alternating optimization algorithm is proposed to find a suboptimal solution for the non-linear and non-convex problem. Finally, compare to baselines, simulation results demonstrate that the designed algorithms for multi-IRS enhanced federated learning can converge faster and aggregate model more accurately.

A digital adaptive blind calibration technique for a two-channel frequency-interleaved analog-to-digital converter (2 FI-ADC) is proposed. It simultaneously estimates and corrects the inherent circuit errors, including spectral leakage, harmonic folding, jitters, I/Q and aliasing images, in a cyclic manner. The effectiveness of this novel architecture is validated via extensive simulations.

The goal of this paper is to use a new notion called "Consensus Game (CG)" with motivation from the mechanism design of blockchain economy under the consensus incentives from Bitcoin ecosystems in financial technology (Fintech) to study the existence of equilibria for the data trading under the framework of Internet of Things (IoT). By a fact that for a given sets of sensors, sensors may take action in cooperative, or noncooperative strategies (games), we formulate s model (called "Consensus Game of IoT") to analyze this competitive situation among the sensors with the mixture of cooperative and noncooperative strategy (game). Then we provide the analytical condition for the existence of the consensus games of IoT in general. The application shows that the concept of consensus games of IoT may play a key role for the study of data trading under the framework of IoT associated with Blockchain ecosystems. © 2020 The Authors. In order to better understand the stochastic dynamic features of signalized traffic networks, we propose a Markov traffic model to simulate the dynamics of traffic link flow density for signalized urban traffic networks with demand uncertainty. In this model, we have four different state modes for the link according to different congestion levels of the link. Each link can only be in one of the four link state modes at any time, and the transition probability from one state to the other state is estimated by Bayesian estimation based on the distributions of the dynamic traffic flow densities, and the posterior probabilities. Therefore, we use a first-order Markov Chain Model to describe the dynamics of the traffic flow evolution process. We illustrate our approach for a small traffic network. Compared with the data from the microscopic traffic simulator SUMO, the proposed model can estimate the link traffic densities accurately and can give a reliable estimation of the uncertainties in the dynamic process of signalized traffic networks.

This paper proposes a novel framework of resource allocation in intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) aided multi-cell non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks, where a sum-rate maximization problem is formulated. To address this challenging mixed-integer non-linear problem, we decompose it into an optimization problem (P1) with continuous variables and a matching problem (P2) with integer variables. For the nonconvex optimization problem (P1), iterative algorithms are proposed for allocating transmit power, designing reflection matrix, and determining decoding order by invoking relaxation methods such as convex upper bound substitution, successive convex approximation and semidefinite relaxation. For the combinational problem (P2), swap matching-based algorithms are proposed to achieve a two-sided exchange-stable state among users, BSs and sub-channels. Numerical results are provided for demonstrating that the sum-rate of the NOMA networks is capable of being enhanced with the aid of the IRS.
