Metamorphic testing of deep neural network-based autonomous driving systems using behavioural domain adequacy

Deep neural networks (DNNs) are crucial in autonomous driving systems (ADSs) for tasks like steering control, but model inaccuracies, biased training data, and incorrect runtime parameters can compromise their reliability. Metamorphic testing (MT) enhances reliability by generating follow-up tests from mutated DNN source inputs, identifying inconsistencies as defects. Various MT techniques for ADSs include generative/transfer models, neuron-based coverage maximization, and adaptive test selection. Despite these efforts, significant challenges remain, including the ambiguity of neuron coverage’s correlation with misbehaviour detection, a lack of focus on DNN critical pathways, inadequate use of search-based methods, and the absence of an integrated method that effectively selects sources and generates follow-ups. This paper addresses such challenges by introducing DeepDomain, a grey-box multi-objective test generation approach for DNN models. It involves adaptively selecting diverse source inputs and generating domain-oriented follow-up tests. Such follow-ups explore critical pathways, extracted by neuron contribution, with broader coverage compared to their source tests (inter-behavioural domain) and attaining high neural boundary coverage of the misbehaviour regions detected in previous follow-ups (intra-behavioural domain). An empirical evaluation of the proposed approach on three DNN models used in the Udacity self-driving car challenge, and 18 different MRs demonstrates that relying on behavioural domain adequacy is a more reliable indicator than coverage criteria for effectively guiding the testing of DNNs. Additionally, DeepDomain significantly outperforms selected baselines in misbehaviour detection by up to 94 times, fault-revealing capability by up to 79%, output diversity by 71%, corner-case detection by up to 187 times, identification of robustness subdomains of MRs by up to 33 percentage points, and naturalness by two times. A Dangerous Driving Behavior Detection Method Based on Improved YOLOv8s

Detecting dangerous driving behavior is a critical research area focused on identifying and preventing actions that could lead to traffic accidents, such as smoking, drinking, yawning, and drowsiness, through technical methods. Advanced computer vision and machine learning technologies enable efficient detection models to monitor and analyze driver behavior, improving road safety. Due to challenges posed by complex environments, this paper introduces an enhanced detection algorithm, YOLOv8s-CDS, to improve the identification of dangerous driving behaviors. First, the ConvNeXt V2 module is integrated with the C2f module to form C2fNeb2, optimizing feature extraction for behaviors like smoking or phone use. Second, the DASI (Dimension-Aware Selective Integration) module enhances detection accuracy through multi-scale fusion and dimension perception. Additionally, the SCConv module replaces the Conv module in the Bottleneck, forming C2fSCConv, which reduces spatial redundancy and improves detection efficiency.A comprehensive experimental analysis of dangerous driving image datasets demonstrates that the mean average precision (mAP) of the YOLOv8s-CDS algorithm is 91.20%, which is 2.4% higher than that of the YOLOv8s algorithm. Compared to other object detection algorithms, such as Faster R-CNN, YOLOv5s, YOLOv7s, YOLOX and YOLOv8, YOLOv8s-CDS demonstrates greater practicality in detecting dangerous driving behaviors, contributing to a reduction in traffic accidents and enhancing the safety of life and property. © 2025, International Association of Engineers. Federated Learning (FL) provides a valuable framework that allows for the collaborative training of models across distributed networks while maintaining the privacy of the data involved. The concept of secure aggregation is crucial in preserving both the privacy and integrity of data within FL systems. However, the deployment of secure aggregation encounters significant barriers. Conventional secure aggregation methods are primarily designed for single-round operations, which can become prohibitively expensive in scenarios that require multiple rounds. Additionally, these methods often struggle in large-scale environments characterized by heterogeneous data and models. This paper introduces the Multiple-Round Aggregation of Abstract Semantics (MRAAS), a novel scheme designed to address the aforementioned limitations in secure aggregation within heterogeneous FL environments. The MRAAS scheme enhances security and reduces the need for extensive data exchanges by aggregating abstracted model semantics instead of raw model gradients, facilitating secure, multiple rounds of aggregation. Key innovations of MRAAS include an advanced abstraction technique, robustness against participant drop-out, and the use of recyclable secrets. These innovations collectively enhance system resilience and reduce the necessity for frequent cryptographic renewals. Our theoretical evaluations focus on the security features of MRAAS. Converse Attention Knowledge Transfer for Low-Resource Named Entity Recognition

In recent years, great success has been achieved in many tasks of natural language processing (NLP), e.g., named entity recognition (NER), especially in the high-resource language, i.e., English, thanks in part to the considerable amount of labeled resources. More labeled resources, better word representations. However, most low-resource languages do not have such an abundance of labeled data as high-resource English, leading to poor performance of NER in these low-resource languages due to poor word representations. In the paper, we propose converse attention network (CAN) to augment word representations in low-resource languages from the high-resource language, improving the performance of NER in low-resource languages by transferring knowledge learned in the high-resource language. CAN first translates sentences in low-resource languages into high-resource English using an attention-based translation module. In the process of translation, CAN obtains the attention matrices that align word representations of high-resource language space and low-resource language space. Furthermore, CAN augments word representations learned in low-resource language space with word representations learned in high-resource language space using the attention matrices. Experiments on four low-resource NER datasets show that CAN achieves consistent and significant performance improvements, which indicates the effectiveness of CAN. © The author(s) 2024.

Research on Image Defogging Algorithm Based on Improved FFA-Net

Images captured under severe weather conditions, such as haze and fog, suffer from image quality degradation caused by atmospheric particle diffusion. This degradation manifests as color fading, reduced contrast, and adversely affects the performance of various computer vision tasks. To address this, this paper presents an end-to-end feature fusion attention network (FFA-Net) designed to directly restore haze-free images. By incorporating the SSIM loss into the original loss function, the proposed method effectively captures the visual disparities between the estimated defogged image and the authentic haze-free image. Additionally, it mitigates the color distortion problem inherent in the original algorithm. To address the challenge of low brightness in input images, a low illumination enhancement module is introduced, seamlessly integrated with the FFA-Net defogging method. Subsequently, a comparative analysis of different defogging algorithms is conducted using two distinct foggy datasets. Multiple evaluation metrics are employed to assess the performance of these algorithms. The findings indicate that our algorithm significantly outperforms others in terms of objective indicators such as PSNR and SSIM, as well as visual effects. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). An Apricot Detection Algorithm in Complex Environments Based on Improved YOLOv7

Apricot detection is a prerequisite for counting and harvesting tasks. Existing algorithms face challenges in adapting to the impacts of complex environmental factors such as lighting variations, shadows, dense foliage, and the uneven distribution of samples in mechanized apricot harvesting. This paper proposes an enhanced model, YOLOv7-DC, based on YOLOv7, to address these challenges. YOLOv7-DC preprocesses diverse apricot tree samples to accommodate real-world harvesting detection scenarios. To improve model inference speed and detection accuracy, the detection network is redesigned with a new feature fusion method. DCNv2 is embedded within the efficient layer aggregation network (ELAN), and PConv is introduced to replace conventional convolutions, reducing the parameter impact of DCNv2. The training process incorporates the CBAM attention mechanism to enhance spatial and channel information. The ConvMixer architecture captures spatial and channel relationships transmitted to the detection head through the attention mechanism, improving the model’s detection accuracy for each specific classification sample. Experimental results show that YOLOv7-DC maintains good detection speed and recognition rates across various classification tasks. The improved model achieves a 6.2% increase in average detection accuracy compared to previous algorithms, with a 13% reduction in model parameters. YOLOv7-DC is better suited for handling imbalanced samples and complex environmental scenarios. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). All rights reserved.

Individualized Data Generation in Personalized Federated Learning

Most Personalized Federated Learning (PFL) algorithms merge the model parameters of each client with other (similar or generic) model parameters to optimize the personalized model (PM). However, the merged model parameters in these algorithms may fit low relevance data, thereby limiting the performance of PM. In this paper, we generate similar data for each client through the collaboration of a generic model (GM) on the server, rather than merging model parameters. To train a generator capable of generating data for all classes on the server without real data, we employ the GM as the discriminator in adversarial training with the generator. Additionally, we introduce a similarity assessment metric, which allows for the assessment of the similarity between local data and data from other classes. Nevertheless, the presence of non-IID data among clients can weaken the performance of the GM, consequently impacting the training of the generator and similarity assessment. To address this issue, we design a directive mechanism so that GM can be optimized during adversarial training without the need for additional training. The experimental results validate the superiority of our algorithm over state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of accuracy, loss, and convergence speed. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

In blockchain-based unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)communication systems,the length of a block affects the performance of the *** transmission performance of blocks in the form of finite character segments is also affected by the block ***,it is crucial to balance the transmission performance and blockchain performance of blockchain communication systems,especially in wireless environments involving *** paper investigates a secure transmission scheme for blocks in blockchain-based UAV communication systems to prevent the information contained in blocks from being completely eavesdropped during *** our scheme,using a friendly jamming UAV to emit jamming signals diminishes the quality of the eavesdropping channel,thus enhancing the communication security performance of the source *** the constraints of maneuverability and transmission power of the UAV,the joint design of UAV trajectories,transmission power,and block length are proposed to maximize the average minimum secrecy rate(AMSR).Since the optimization problem is non-convex and difficult to solve directly,we first decompose the optimization problem into subproblems of trajectory optimization,transmission power optimization,and block length ***,based on firstorder approximation techniques,these subproblems are reformulated as convex optimization ***,we utilize an alternating iteration algorithm based on the successive convex approximation(SCA)technique to solve these subproblems *** simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme can achieve secure transmission for blocks while maintaining the performance of the blockchain.
