Rate control is a critical part of video compression systems, while the introduction of Rate-Distortion Optimization makes rate control in H.264/AVC more complex than previous standards. The frame coding complexity MAD is predicted in H.264/AVC rate control. In this paper, we present a novel estimation method for frame coding complexity in H.264/AVC. Meanwhile, a rate control scheme is proposed to improve the coding efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate that our rate control scheme gains better visual quality than that of joint model in H.264/AVC reference software. © 2010 IEEE.

A possibilistic clustering algorithm called unsupervised possibilistic clustering (UPC) was proposed in a previous paper. Although UPC is sound, the algorithm has the problem of generating coincident clusters. In this paper, we propose a new clustering model called improved unsupervised possibilistic clustering (IUPC) to overcome this weakness of UPC, and an efficient global optimization tech.ique - differential evolution algorithm (DE) is introduced to optimize the proposed model. In IUPC, the optimal cluster centers are searched by the DE algorithm within a fixed feasible region, which is determined by the fuzzy c-means clustering algorithm. IUPC inherits the merits of UPC. In the meanwhile, it avoids the problem of generating coincident clusters by limiting the feasible regions of different clusters disjoint. The contrast experiments with PCM and its variants show the effectiveness of IUPC. ©2010 IEEE.

According to the problem of low stable system, not high test circuit integration, unitary measured data, and data easy to lose in testing overpressure signal duringthe explosion, methods of stored testing and measuring by using Internal and external control trigger modeare presented. In this method, the explosion signal is collected and memoried by two channels at the same time. The first channel to capture the signal changes in the value of trigger signals, and the data stored in memory channel 1;the second channel used the explosion of ammunition as external interrupt to control signal collecting, and the data stored in memory channel 2. Analysis and tests show that the combination of two memory testing methods is able to maximize the impact of reduced external interference signals;the data is stored in nonvolatile memory during the data collection process and kept real time, which can effectively improve the reliability of a single test and maximize the system availability. © 2010 IEEE.

In large-scale object tracking wireless sensor networks, multiple mobile nodes will bring large amount of communication overheads in maintaining the accuracy of localization tracking, which would possibly affect the collection and dissemination of the tracking data, seriously. Existing seminar works purely focus on achieving optimal tracking accuracy and suffer from large amount of protocol overhead, due to lacking of adaptations on various accuracy requirements for different tracking applications. In this paper, we propose a prediction based object tracking protocol for tiered accuracy requirements. The tired accuracy requirements are perceived by each entity so as to establish a unified predicted model for the moving objects and the sink nodes. Moreover, the network entities could share the corresponding model parameters to others related, thus, all the interested entities use the same model to predict the moving objects and the corresponded sink location, so as to achieve a precise location. In this approach, the system achieves efficient data distribution and information sharing to reduce communication overheads, such that tiered application requirements are satisfied. An optimal model on vehicular mobility in analytical form is made, employing the trace generated by kinematic model and the data collected in real experiments. In that, we set up a simulation environment in evaluating our protocol using Qualnet, a validated commercial simulation platform. Simulation results show that, the proposed algorithm can effectively improve network efficiency and successfully satisfy different level of application requirements. © 2010 IEEE.

The transmission of massive highly related data could generally exist in gathering scenario of sensor networks and lead to the depletion of valuable energy resource. According to the above energy waste problem, an effective filtering mechanism is proposed in the paper to enhance the energy-efficiency of data-gathering. Many current researches adopt clustering method and aggregation tech.ology to lower energy cost during the process in data transmission, while our proposed filtering framework mainly puts emphasis on inhibiting the production of redundant loads at the gathering source to greatly reduce energy cost using self-adaptive filtering scheme, which is constructed by prediction module for mining the time domain association, self-learning module for modifying model and driving module for executing filtering operation. We can prove the above filter components combined with the running of error-driving rule and threshold-distributing rule can effectively decrease the quantity of data transmission in networks based on QoS requirement. Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed filtering mechanism can do better than some classical data gathering approaches on the aspect of energy-saving effect. © 2010 IEEE.

The paper presents a heuristic Theoretical Optimal Routing Algorithm(TORA) to achieve location-aided optimal data-gathering structure in wireless sensor networks(WSN). The algorithm's construction is based on a kind of swarm intelligence mechanism, i.e., ant colony optimization (ACO). The novel design of heuristic factor and pheromone updating rule can endow ant-like agents with the ability of detecting the local energy status of networks to approach the theoretical optimal routing. Via the division of WSN into different functional regions and introduction of energy-efficient weight in heuristic factor, the criterion in routing selection can be adaptively adjusted based on asymmetric power configurations and consumption to improve the robustness of data-routing tree. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed routing scheme can contribute to minimize the total communication energy cost, meanwhile, to enhance the QoS-performance and energy-balance effect in data-gathering. © 2010 IEEE.

The paper presents a Predication mode based Routing Algorithm based on ACO (PRACO) to achieve the energy-aware data-gathering routing structure in wireless sensor networks (WSN). We adopt series model ARMA to analyze dynamic tendency in data traffic and deduce the construction of load factor, which can help to reveal the future energy status of sensor in WSN. By checking the load factor in heuristic factor and guided by novel pheromone updating rule, artificial ants can foresee the local energy state of networks and the corresponding actions could be adaptively taken to enhance the energy efficiency in routing construction. The simulation results show that the proposed routing building scheme can effectively reinforce the robustness of routing structure by mining the temporal associability and introducing ACO to balance the total energy cost for data transmission, which also contributes to minimize the total communication consumption, meanwhile, to prolong the lifetime of networks. © 2010 IEEE.

Ground-based cloud recognition plays an essential role for automatic cloud observation. In particular, the recognition of clouds is remarkably challenging because that the shape, size, and composition of cloud is extremely variable under different atmospheric conditions. A new method is proposed to extract texturral feature using Bidimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition(BEMD) and Tamura textural analysis. Cloud was decomposed into several IMFs by BEMD. Radial basis function polynomial interpolation was applied to construct the envelope. Then the number of zero-crossing, means and standard deviation of the amplitude in each IMFs were selected as the eigenvector for training processing. And Tamura textural feature analysis was used to extract the feature of directionality. Characteristics of the sample database cloud was established by synthesizing the two normalized eigenvector. The same method was applied to the images to be identified, then the images were categorized compared with the eigenvector of sample database by the average sample method. The simulated experiments show that the ground-based cloud can be recognized effectively by new method. © 2010 IEEE.

Metal-metalloid amorphous alloy catalysts have attracted much attention owing to their excellent activity and selectivity. In this paper, the Pd-B/TiO2 amorphous alloy was prepared by liquid phase chemical reduction method. The Pd-B/TiO2 amorphous alloy was characterized by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that amorphous alloy Pd-B was formed with the size of around 10 nm, and exhibits better dispersion on the surface of TiO2 support. The catalytic activity of Pd-B/TiO2 on the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) was investigated by simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The results show that Pd-B/TiO2 exhibits better catalytic activity on the thermal decomposition of AP. Enriched electron state of Pd active sites and high dispersion of the Pd-B active sites on TiO2 support are mainly responsible for the improvement of catalytic activity of Pd-B/TiO2 amorphous alloy catalyst. In addition, the possible mechanism of Pd-B/TiO2 catalytic activity on the thermal decomposition of AP was also discussed. ©2010 IEEE.
