Emotion detection from text has been an important task in Natural language processing (NLP) for many years. Many approaches were based on the emotional words or lexicon in order to detect emotions. While the word embedding vectors like Word2Vec were successfully employed in many NLP approaches. Also, word mover's distance (WMD) is a method introduced recently to calculate the distance between two documents based on the embedded words. However, this paper is investigating the ability to detect or classify emotions in sentences using word vectorization and distance measures. Our results confirm the novelty of using Word2Vec and WMD in predicting the emotions in text.

Top-N-Rank: A Scalable List-wise Ranking Method for Recommender Systems

We propose Top-N-Rank, a novel family of list wise Learning-to-Rank models for reliably recommending the N top-ranked items. The proposed models optimize a variant of the widely used discounted cumulative gain (DCG) objective function which differs from DCG in two important aspects: (i) It limits the evaluation of DCG only on the top N items in the ranked lists, thereby eliminating the impact of low-ranked items on the learned ranking function;and (ii) it incorporates weights that allow the model to leverage multiple types of implicit feedback with differing levels of reliability or trustworthiness. Because the resulting objective function is non-smooth and hence challenging to optimize, we consider two smooth approximations of the objective function, using the traditional sigmoid function and the rectified linear unit (ReLU). We propose a family of learning-to-rank algorithms (Top-N-Rank) that work with any smooth objective function. Then, a more efficient variant, ***, is introduced, which effectively exploits the properties of ReLU function to reduce the computational complexity of Top-N-Rank from quadratic to linear in the average number of items rated by users. The results of our experiments using two widely used benchmarks, namely, the MovieLens data set and the Amazon Video Games data set demonstrate that: (i) The "top-N truncation" of the objective function substantially improves the ranking quality of the top N recommendations;(ii) using the ReLU for smoothing the objective function yields significant improvement in both ranking quality as well as runtime as compared to using the sigmoid;and (iii) *** substantially outperforms the well-performing list-wise ranking methods in terms of ranking quality. Background: Recent technological advances in wearable devices offer new potential for measuring mobility in real-world contexts. Mobilise-D has validated digital mobility outcomes to provide novel outcomes and end points in clinical research of 4 different long-term health conditions (Parkinson disease, multiple sclerosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and proximal femoral fracture). These outcomes also provide unique information that is important to patients;however, there is limited literature that explores the optimal methods to achieve this, such as the best way to visualize patients’ data. Objective: This study aimed to identify meaningful outcomes for each condition and how to best visualize them from the perspective of end users. Methods: Using a Delphi-type protocol with patients as subject matter experts, we gathered iterative feedback on the cocreation of visualizations through 3 rounds of questionnaires. An open-ended questionnaire was used in round 1 to understand what aspects of mobility were most influenced by their health condition. These responses were mapped onto relevant digital mobility outcomes and walking experiences and then prioritized for visualization. Using patient responses, we worked alongside researchers, clinicians, and a patient advisory group to develop visualizations that depicted a week of mobility data. During rounds 2 and 3, participants rated usefulness and ease of understanding on a 5-point Likert scale and provided unstructured feedback in comment boxes for each visualization. Visualizations were refined using the feedback from round 2 before receiving further feedback in round 3. Results: Participation varied across rounds 1 to 3 (n=48, n=79, and n=78, respectively). A number of domain adaptation techniques have been developed in classical supervised machine learning to solve the problem of learning under domain shift. Unfortunately, almost no attempt has been made to exploit their potential use for causal inference. In this paper, we present a conceptual framework which leverages on one of these successes by adopting Domain Adversarial of Neural Network (DANN) [1] and make it work within the context of causal inference. More specifically, we attempt to modify an existing counterfactual prediction framework based on domain adaptation (DA) [2] with a deep neural network and discrepancy distance measure to enable us instead to perform causal inference in an adversarial way. We achieved this by jointly minimizing the risk in the feature reconstruction and the counterfactual prediction while maximizing the error in discriminating between the distribution of subjects that received intervention and those that received no intervention. This way, a domain invariant yet discriminative model that will generalize well on the counterfactual target distribution is produced.

Space biology research aims to understand fundamental effects of spaceflight on organisms, develop foundational knowledge to support deep space exploration, and ultimately bioengineer spacecraft and habitats to stabilize the ecosystem of plants, crops, microbes, animals, and humans for sustained multi-planetary life. To advance these aims, the field leverages experiments, platforms, data, and model organisms from both spaceborne and ground-analog studies. As research is extended beyond low Earth orbit, experiments and platforms must be maximally autonomous, light, agile, and intelligent to expedite knowledge discovery. Here we present a summary of recommendations from a workshop organized by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and modeling applications which offer key solutions toward these space biology challenges. In the next decade, the synthesis of artificial intelligence into the field of space biology will deepen the biological understanding of spaceflight effects, facilitate predictive modeling and analytics, support maximally autonomous and reproducible experiments, and efficiently manage spaceborne data and metadata, all with the goal to enable life to thrive in deep space. © 2021, CC BY.

Human space exploration beyond low Earth orbit will involve missions of significant distance and duration. To effectively mitigate myriad space health hazards, paradigm shifts in data and space health systems are necessary to enable Earth-independence, rather than Earth-reliance. Promising developments in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning for biology and health can address these needs. We propose an appropriately autonomous and intelligent Precision Space Health system that will monitor, aggregate, and assess biomedical statuses;analyze and predict personalized adverse health outcomes;adapt and respond to newly accumulated data;and provide preventive, actionable, and timely insights to individual deep space crew members and iterative decision support to their crew medical officer. Here we present a summary of recommendations from a workshop organized by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, on future applications of artificial intelligence in space biology and health. In the next decade, biomonitoring technology, biomarker science, spacecraft hardware, intelligent software, and streamlined data management must mature and be woven together into a Precision Space Health system to enable humanity to thrive in deep space. © 2021, CC BY.
