Social relation reasoning in heterogeneous social networks (HSNs) should not only infer whether people are connected, but also why they know each other and what their relationship is. This task is challenging because the heterogeneous social network is non-trivial to leverage and the collected data is always noisy and incomplete, which leads that the existing rule-based and representation methods cannot efficiently and accurately reason social relations. To reason social relations in noisy and incomplete HSNs, we shift from simply inferring meta-path based social relations by rule-based methods to reasoning by social relation learning. Then, we present an inductive model named Heterogeneous Graph Variational AutoEncoders (HGVAE) towards robust social relation learning on noisy and incomplete HSN data. In HGVAE, the well-designed heterogeneous graph encoder, multi-signal decoder, and variational inference mechanism bring prominent robustness and significant performance improvement. Extensive experiments are conducted to compare our methods against a set of the most representative baseline methods. The efficiency analysis, robust analysis and ablation studies confirm the value of our proposed approach for modelling meta-path based social relations buried in various HSNs. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Speaker extraction and diarization are two enabling techniques for real-world speech applications. Speaker extraction aims to extract a target speaker's voice from a speech mixture, while speaker diarization demarcates speech segments by speaker, annotating ‘who spoke when’. Previous studies have typically treated the two tasks independently. In practical applications, it is more meaningful to have knowledge about ‘who spoke what and when’, which is captured by the two tasks. The two tasks share a similar objective of disentangling speakers. Speaker extraction operates in the frequency domain, whereas diarization is in the temporal domain. It is logical to believe that speaker activities obtained from speaker diarization can benefit speaker extraction, while the extracted speech offers more accurate speaker activity detection than the speech mixture. In this paper, we propose a unified model called Universal Speaker Extraction and Diarization (USED) to address output inconsistency and scenario mismatch issues. It is designed to manage speech mixtures with varying overlap ratios and variable number of speakers. We show that the USED model significantly outperforms the competitive baselines for speaker extraction and diarization tasks on LibriMix and SparseLibriMix datasets. We further validate the diarization performance on CALLHOME, a dataset based on real recordings, and experimental results indicate that our model surpasses recently proposed approaches.

With the advancement of deep learning, object detectors (ODs) with various architectures have achieved significant success in complex scenarios like autonomous driving. Previous adversarial attacks against ODs have been focused on designing customized attacks targeting their specific structures (e.g., NMS and RPN), yielding some results but simultaneously constraining their scalability. Moreover, most efforts against ODs stem from image-level attacks originally designed for classification tasks, resulting in redundant computations and disturbances in object-irrelevant areas (e.g., background). Consequently, how to design a model-agnostic efficient attack to comprehensively evaluate the vulnerabilities of ODs remains challenging and unresolved. In this paper, we propose NumbOD, a brand-new spatial-frequency fusion attack against various ODs, aimed at disrupting object detection within images. We directly leverage the features output by the OD without relying on its internal structures to craft adversarial examples. Specifically, we first design a dual-track attack target selection strategy to select high-quality bounding boxes from OD outputs for targeting. Subsequently, we employ directional perturbations to shift and compress predicted boxes and change classification results to deceive ODs. Additionally, we focus on manipulating the high-frequency components of images to confuse ODs’ attention on critical objects, thereby enhancing the attack efficiency. Our extensive experiments on nine ODs and two datasets show that NumbOD achieves powerful attack performance and high stealthiness. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Solving large-scale linear programming (LP) problems is an important task in various areas such as communication networks, power systems, finance, and logistics. Recently, two distinct approaches have emerged to expedite LP solving: (i) First-order methods (FOMs); (ii) Learning to optimize (L2O). In this work, we propose a FOM-unrolled neural network (NN) called PDHG-Net, and propose a two-stage L2O method to solve large-scale LP problems. The new architecture PDHG-Net is designed by unrolling the recently emerged PDHG method into a neural network, combined with channel-expansion techniques borrowed from graph neural networks. We prove that the proposed PDHG-Net can recover PDHG algorithm, thus can approximate optimal solutions of LP instances with a polynomial number of neurons. We propose a two-stage inference approach: first use PDHG-Net to generate an approximate solution, and then apply the PDHG algorithm to further improve the solution. Experiments show that our approach can significantly accelerate LP solving, achieving up to a 3× speedup compared to FOMs for large-scale LP problems.

Traffic sign detection and recognition (TSDR) is a crucial technology to realize vehicle autonomous driving and maintain road safety. Misdetection or misclassification of traffic signs can lead to serious traffic accidents. Therefore, it is essential to ensure the correctness of traffic sign detection and recognition systems. However, most existing methods use labeled data, but it isn't easy to obtain labeled data. The metamorphic testing can reduce the dependence on the labeled data, but the current metamorphic relations do not consider the domain characteristics of traffic signs, so it is difficult to effectively detect traffic sign detection and recognition systems faults. To solve the above problems, this paper introduces metamorphic testing to verify traffic sign detection and recognition systems and designs and implements a tool, MTSDR, which provides a series of metamorphic relations in the traffic domain. It can generate many follow-up test images based on these metamorphic relations and automatically performs tests for evaluation, focusing on practical failure situations. The experimental evaluation was carried out on four advanced traffic sign detection and recognition models on open datasets. The results show that MTSDR can generate natural images and find thousands of traffic sign detection and recognition faults. Compared with the previous methods, our method has a higher fault detection capability, and the highest fault detection rate reaches more than 40%. In addition, it finds that retraining the traffic sign detection and recognition models using the images that found the fault can improve the model's performance, reduce its fault, and reduce the fault rate by 11.77% on average.

Sleep posture identification is crucial for accurately assessing sleep quality and diagnosing related diseases. In the realm of non-intrusive sleep monitoring, non-contact technologies are becoming increasingly mainstream. Millimeter-wave radar is frequently utilized in sleep posture identification due to its high resolution, strong penetration, and excellent sensitivity. However, traditional radar-based methods for sleep posture identification often struggle with reliability when dealing with diverse individuals and complex sleep environments. To address these challenges, we propose UniSleepPos, which designs a novel dual-view fusion mechanism to integrate depression and elevation angle signals obtained from radar, thus accurately capturing the posture information of the monitored subject in three-dimensional space. Furthermore, we combine sleep posture identification with individual characteristics, utilizing existing individual labels as prior knowledge to assist in sleep posture identification. The integration of prior knowledge provides a valuable information source for the model, helping to enhance its understanding of the data and improve its performance. We collected sleep posture data from eight volunteers using millimeter-wave radar devices under various environmental conditions. Leave-one-subject-out experiments were conducted to validate the effectiveness of UniSleepPos. The results indicated that UniSleepPos significantly outperforms existing methods, demonstrating its potential for practical applications.

In order to improve the hit ratio of lost customers in telecom industry, a combination prediction model of customer churn based on one-dimensional convolutional neural network(1DCNN) and gradient boosting decision tree(GBDT) is proposed. Firstly, customer data is fed into 1DCNN model, which uses one-dimensional convolution to automatically extract customer features and then predicts customer churn through full connection layer. If the prediction result of 1DCNN model is churn, the result is directly output. If the prediction result is non-churn, the customer data will be re-introduced into GBDT model for second forecast, and the new prediction result will be output. Experiments on two publicly available telecom customer data set show that the proposed combined model significantly improves the recall rate and F1 score of customer churn prediction.

Application programming interface (API) plays an important role in modern software development, a well designed API can provide tremendous convenience for developers. However, designing an excellent API is not a trivial task, each field in the API should avoid any ambiguity. Besides, in some special cases, for instance, a Chinese developer might not accurately translate the meaning of a Chinese API field into its English counterpart. Therefore, there exists a tremendous requirement in designing high quality API field. In this paper, a fine-tuning pre-trained model based method is proposed for API field design task. Firstly, we consider the design of API fields as a translation task, converting the fields from another language into English. Secondly, we fine-tune a pre-trained model for API field design task. In the end, we curate two datasets to illustrate our method and the experiment results demonstrate that our method has a better performance in designing API field.

Automatic segmentation of the bronchial tree from CT imaging is important, as it provides structural information for disease diagnosis. Despite the merits of previous automatic bronchus segmentation methods, they have paied less attention to the issue we term as Intensity Confusion, wherein the intensity values of certain background voxels approach those of the foreground voxels within bronchi. Conversely, the intensity values of some foreground voxels are nearly identical to those of background voxels. This proximity in intensity values introduces significant challenges to neural network methodologies. To address the issue, we introduce a novel Intensity-Distance Guided loss function, which assigns adaptive weights to different image voxels for mining hard samples that cause the intensity confusion. The proposed loss estimates the voxel-level hardness of samples, on the basis of the following intensity and distance priors. We regard a voxel as a hard sample if it is in: (1) the background and has an intensity value close to the bronchus region; (2) the bronchus region and is of higher intensity than most voxels inside the bronchus; (3) the background region and at a short distance from the bronchus. Extensive experiments not only show the superiority of our method compared with the state-of-the-art methods, but also verify that tackling the intensity confusion issue helps to significantly improve bronchus segmentation. Write-ahead log and data encryption technologies are employed to ensure both crash consistency and data security for persistent memory (PM). The encryption/decryption of both data and log requests increase the memory request latency, degrading the system performance. To tackle this issue, this paper proposes a novel log-aware memory encryption scheme to reduce encryption/decryption operations, without compromising data security. Specifically, redo log blocks are stored as ciphertext for their corresponding data blocks to avoid encryption/decryption of log data blocks when in-place update operations are applied to them. We further design a compact log record layout with fewer encryption metadata in log records to reduce logging traffic. Our simulation results show that the transaction throughput of the proposed design outperforms the baseline design and the state-of-the-art design by 87.3% and 55.3% on average, respectively. © 2021 IEEE.
