Streaming graph processing needs to timely evaluate continuous queries. Prior systems suffer from massive redundant computations due to the irregular order of processing vertices influenced by updates. To address this issue, we propose ACGraph, a novel streaming graph processing approach for monotonic graph algorithms. It maintains dependence trees during runtime, and makes affected vertices processed in a top-to-bottom order in the hierarchy of the dependence trees, thus normalizing the state propagation order and coalescing of multiple propagation to the same vertices. Experimental results show that ACGraph reduces the number of updates by 50% on average, and achieves the speedup of 1.75~7.43× over state-of-the-art systems.

Radio map estimation (RME) is crucial for effective planning and optimization of wireless networks. Traditional approaches such as interpolation excel at capturing local smoothness in densely populated data but struggle with sparse or irregular data. Conversely, matrix completion (MC) approaches utilize global structures but require huge number of samples and may produce non-smooth estimates. To integrate these strengths, we propose a convex optimization approach for RME (IIMC-RME) that merges interpolation with MC. This approach formulates the RME task as a low-rank MC problem constrained by interpolated results. Additionally, we have developed a convergent algorithm utilizing the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) to efficiently solve the IIMC-RME problem. Experimental evaluations on both synthetic and real-world datasets have shown that IIMC-RME surpasses existing approaches, thereby achieving superior accuracy in RME.

Recently, the autoregressive framework based on large language models (LLMs) has achieved excellent performance in controlling the generated text to adhere to the required style. These methods guide LLMs through prompt learning to generate target text in an autoregressive manner. However, this manner possesses lower controllability and suffers from the challenge of accumulating errors, where early prediction inaccuracies might influence subsequent word generation. Furthermore, existing prompt-based methods overlook specific region editing, resulting in a deficiency of localized control over input text. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel three-stage prompt-based approach for specific region editing. To alleviate the issue of accumulating errors, we transform the text style transfer task into a text infilling task, guiding the LLMs to modify only a small portion of text within the editing region to achieve style transfer, thus reducing the number of autoregressive iterations. To achieve an effective specific editing region, we adopt both prompt-based and word frequency-based strategies for region selection, subsequently employing a discriminator to validate the efficacy of the selected region. Experiments conducted on several publicly competitive datasets for text style transfer task confirm that our proposed approach achieves state-of-the-art performance. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

Optical intelligent reflecting surface (OIRS) has been considered a promising technology for visible light communication (VLC) by constructing visual line-of-sight propagation paths to address the signal blockage issue. However, the existing works on OIRSs are mostly based on perfect channel state information (CSI), whose acquisition appears to be challenging due to the passive nature of the OIRS. To tackle this challenge, this paper proposes a customized channel estimation algorithm for OIRSs. Specifically, we first unveil the OIRS spatial coherence characteristics and derive the coherence distance in closed form. Based on this property, a spatial sampling-based algorithm is proposed to estimate the OIRS-reflected channel, by dividing the OIRS into multiple subarrays based on the coherence distance and sequentially estimating their associated CSI, followed by an interpolation to retrieve the full CSI. Simulation results validate the derived OIRS spatial coherence and demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed OIRS channel estimation algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

As a data-driven science, machine learning requires vast amounts of training data and computational resources. However, for highly privacy-sensitive data, it is crucial to protect the privacy of the data during both the training and utilization of machine learning models. In this paper, we propose a privacy-preserving machine learning approach using autoencoders and differential privacy mechanisms to safeguard data privacy while minimizing the impact on data availability. Specifically, we augment logistic regression and ResNet18 models with different architectures of autoencoders to perform data encryption? without compromising the machine learning tasks. Additionally, we employ differential privacy mechanisms to introduce gradient perturbations in the encoding part of the autoencoder, enhancing the algorithm’s security and further protecting data privacy. We also design the cosine similarity between the encoded and original data as a metric for evaluating data privacy, considering model performance, privacy budget, and data privacy collectively to balance data availability and privacy. Extensive experiments conducted on MNIST, CIFAR-10, PathMNIST, and BloodMNIST datasets demonstrate that for simple logistic regression models handling easily classifiable datasets, employing simple autoencoder structures can enhance classification accuracy, with significant performance impact after adding differential privacy. For ResNet18, utilizing convolutional autoencoders for data encryption generally has minimal impact on model classification performance and can even improve accuracy in most cases. Adding differential privacy has minor effects on model classification performance. Selecting appropriate model structures and privacy budgets for different usage scenarios can ensure both data availability and privacy. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Intensity Confusion Matters: An Intensity-Distance Guided Loss for Bronchus Segmentation

Automatic segmentation of the bronchial tree from CT imaging is important, as it provides structural information for disease diagnosis. Despite the merits of previous automatic bronchus segmentation methods, they have paied less attention to the issue we term as Intensity Confusion, wherein the intensity values of certain background voxels approach those of the foreground voxels within bronchi. Conversely, the intensity values of some foreground voxels are nearly identical to those of background voxels. This proximity in intensity values introduces significant challenges to neural network methodologies. To address the issue, we introduce a novel Intensity-Distance Guided loss function, which assigns adaptive weights to different image voxels for mining hard samples that cause the intensity confusion. The proposed loss estimates the voxel-level hardness of samples, on the basis of the following intensity and distance priors. We regard a voxel as a hard sample if it is in: (1) the background and has an intensity value close to the bronchus region;(2) the bronchus region and is of higher intensity than most voxels inside the bronchus;(3) the background region and at a short distance from the bronchus. Extensive experiments not only show the superiority of our method compared with the state-of-the-art methods, but also verify that tackling the intensity confusion issue helps to significantly improve bronchus segmentation. A recommender system(RS)relying on latent factor analysis usually adopts stochastic gradient descent(SGD)as its learning ***,owing to its serial mechanism,an SGD algorithm suffers from low efficiency and scalability when handling large-scale industrial *** at addressing this issue,this study proposes a momentum-incorporated parallel stochastic gradient descent(MPSGD)algorithm,whose main idea is two-fold:a)implementing parallelization via a novel datasplitting strategy,and b)accelerating convergence rate by integrating momentum effects into its training *** it,an MPSGD-based latent factor(MLF)model is achieved,which is capable of performing efficient and high-quality *** results on four high-dimensional and sparse matrices generated by industrial RS indicate that owing to an MPSGD algorithm,an MLF model outperforms the existing state-of-the-art ones in both computational efficiency and scalability.

Large language models (LLMs) offer impressive performance across diverse fields, but their increasing complexity raises both design costs and the need for specialized expertise. These challenges are intensified for Neural Architecture Search (NAS) methods reliant on weight-sharing techniques. This paper introduces GNAS, a new NAS method that boosts the search process with the aid of LLMs for efficient model discovery. With insights from existing architectures, GNAS swiftly identifies superior models that can adapt to changing resource constraints. We provide a mathematical framework to facilitate the transfer of knowledge across different model sizes, thereby improving search efficiency. Our experiments conducted on ImageNet, NAS-Bench-Macro, and ChannelBench-Macro confirm the effectiveness of GNAS across both CNN and Transformer architectures.

Autism spectrum disorder is primarily diagnosed in males, leading to the lack of understanding of brain disorganization in female individuals with autism. To fill the gap, we applied a Gaussian mixture model-based oversampling technique to the functional connectivity data to adjust for the sex imbalance in autism. Leveraging a dimensionality reduction technique, we generated a low-dimensional principal component (i.e., gradient) and assessed its between-group differences between the sexes. We observed significant sex-related differences in sensorimotor, attention, and default mode networks, which were associated with higher-order cognitive control processes. Transcriptomic association analysis provided a potential biological underpinning, specifying gene enrichment in the cortex, thalamus, and striatum. Finally, symptom severity prediction analysis suggested that the functional gradient was only associated with symptoms in female individuals with autism. © 2024 IEEE.

ASGEA: Exploiting Logic Rules from Align-Subgraphs for Entity Alignment

Entity alignment (EA) aims to identify entities across different knowledge graphs that represent the same real-world objects. Recent embedding-based EA methods have achieved state-of-the-art performance in EA yet faced interpretability challenges as they purely rely on the embedding distance and neglect the logic rules behind a pair of aligned entities. In this paper, we propose the Align-Subgraph Entity Alignment (ASGEA) framework to exploit logic rules from Align-Subgraphs. ASGEA uses anchor links as bridges to construct Align-Subgraphs and spreads along the paths across KGs, which distinguishes it from the embedding-based methods. Furthermore, we design an interpretable Path-based Graph Neural Network, ASGNN, to effectively identify and integrate the logic rules across KGs. We also introduce a node-level multi-modal attention mechanism coupled with multi-modal enriched anchors to augment the Align-Subgraph. Our experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of ASGEA over the existing embedding-based methods in both EA and Multi-Modal EA (MMEA) tasks. Copyright © 2024, The Authors.
