Design of a ML-based trust prediction model using intelligent TrustBoxes in challenged networks

Challenged networks (CNs) contain resource-constrained nodes deployed in regions where human intervention is difficult. Opportunistic networks (OppNets) are CNs with no predefined source-to-destination paths. Due to their inherent properties, CNs and OppNets are highly susceptible to black-hole (BH) attacks, resulting in degraded packet-delivery ratio. In this work, an ML-based trust prediction model (MLTPM) is proposed to identify potential BH nodes in OppNets. MLTPM uses a novel function to calculate the total-trust-value (TTV) of each node. Intelligent TrustBoxes are introduced in the network to identify possible BH nodes, using TTV, along with five more node-behaviour features. TrustBoxes reduce the computational overhead of the resource-constrained nodes. Three simulated scenarios are compared - no detection, non-ML-based detection, and MLTPM, each using epidemic, prophet, and spray-and-wait routing protocols. MLTPM performs best with spray-and-wait, exhibiting about 25.21% and 80% mean improvement in delivery-ratio and dropped-message numbers respectively, compared to non-ML-based detection. An overall 12.62% improvement in delivery-ratio and 26.7% improvement in dropped messages is observed using MLTPM, compared to the above-mentioned scenarios. © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Optimizing abnormality detection in fundus images with Triplet-OS and orchard search optimization model

The accurate and early detection of abnormalities in fundus images is crucial for the timely diagnosis and treatment of various eye diseases, such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. The detection of abnormalities in fundus images using traditional methods is often challenging due to high computational demands, scalability issues, and the requirement of large labeled datasets for effective training. To address these limitations, a new method called triplet-based orchard search (Triplet-OS) has been proposed in this paper. In this study, a GoogleNet (Inception) is utilized for feature extraction of fundus images. Also, the residual network is employed to detect abnormalities in fundus images. The Triplet-OS utilizes the medical imaging technique fundus photography dataset to capture detailed images of the interior surface of the eye, known as the fundus and the fundus includes the retina, optic disk, macula, and blood vessels. To enhance the performance of the Triplet-OS method, the orchard optimization algorithm has been implemented with an initial search strategy for hyperparameter optimization. The performance of the Triplet-OS method has been evaluated based on different metrics such as F1-score, specificity, AUC-ROC, recall, precision, and accuracy. Additionally, the performance of the proposed method has been compared with existing methods. Few-shot learning refers to a process where models can learn from just a small number of examples. This method has been applied to reduce the dependency on deep learning [1]. The goal is for machines to become as intelligent as humans. Today, numerous computing devices, extensive datasets, and advanced methods such as CNN and LSTM have been developed. The significance of sentiment analysis has increased in modern times due to the extensive use of social media platforms as a medium for individuals to express their opinions. Twitter is widely acknowledged as a popular social media site mostly used for microblogging. People often voice their opinions on current events, making it challenging for researchers to accurately classify the mood expressed in these opinions. This research study presents a novel and efficient method for identifying and detecting false or misleading information pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. The dataset including artificially created news stories is obtained from a collection of texts and processed via the cycle of natural language processing (NLP). For this research study, three advanced deep learning models were used to predict the emotion of news items, accurately differentiating between genuine and fraudulent ones. This study utilizes Convolutional Neural Networks, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) as deep learning classifiers. Subsequently, it compares the outcomes achieved from these classifiers. The findings suggest that the BiGRU deep learning classifier has exceptional accuracy and efficiency, achieving a remarkable accuracy rate of 91%. © 2023 IEEE.

Industrial process plants use emergency shutdown valves(ESDVs)as safety barriers to protect against hazardous events,bringing the plant to a safe state when potential danger is *** ESDVs are used extensively in offshore oil and gas processing plants and have been mandated in the design of such systems from national and international standards and *** paper has used actual ESDV operating data from four mid/late life oil and gas production platforms in the North Sea to research operational relationships that are of interest to those responsible for the technical management and operation of *** first of the two relationships is between the closure time(CT)of the ESDV and the time it remains in the open position,prior to the close *** has been hypothesised that the CT of the ESDV is affected by the length of time that it has been open prior to being closed(Time since the last stroke).In addition to the general analysis of the data series,two sub-categories were created to further investigate this possible relationship for CT and these are“above mean”and“below mean”.The correlations(Pearson's based)resulting from this analysis are in the“weak”and“very weak”*** second relationship investigated was the effect of very frequent closures to assess if this improves the *** operational records for six subjects were analysed to find closures that occurred within a 24 h period of each ***,no discriminating trend was apparent where CT was impacted positively or negatively by the frequent closure *** was concluded that the variance of ESDV closure time cannot be influenced by the technical management of the ESDV in terms of scheduling the operation of the ESDV.

Effect of pulsed current cathodic protection on pipeline steel API 5L X65 corrosion mitigation: An investigation and machine learning-assisted modeling

Pulsed current cathodic protection(PCCP) could be more effective than direct current cathodic protection(DCCP)for mitigating corrosion in buried structures in the oil and gas industries if appropriate pulsed parameters are chosen. The purpose of this research is to present the corrosion prevention mechanism of the PCCP technique by taking into account the effects of duty cycle as well as frequency, modeling the relationships between pulse parameters(frequency and duty cycle) and system outputs(corrosion rate, protective current and pipe-to-soil potential) and finally identifying the most effective protection conditions over a wide range of frequency(2–10 kHz) and duty cycle(25%-75%). For this, pipe-to-soil potential, pH, current and power consumption, corrosion rate, surface deposits and investigation of pitting corrosion were taken into account. To model the input-output relationship in the PCCP method, a data-driven machine learning approach was used by training an artificial neural network(ANN). The results revealed that the PCCP system could yield the best protection conditions at 10 kHz frequency and 50% duty cycle, resulting in the longest protection length with the lowest corrosion rate at a consumption current 0.3 time that of the DCCP method. In the frequency range of 6–10 kHz and duty cycles of 50%-75%, SEM images indicated a uniform distribution of calcite deposits and no pits on cathode surface.

Semantic communication has emerged as a promising solution to meet the growing demand for efficient data transmission in the information age. Unlike traditional communication methods that focus on transmitting raw data, semantic communication prioritizes preserving the meaning of transmitted information, which significantly reduces the data volume. However, implementing semantic communication systems in resource-constrained environments, such as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, remains challenging due to limited computational resources. In this letter, we propose a novel lightweight deep learning (DL) model, termed the lightweight image compression and reconstruction network (LICRnet). LICRnet leverages depthwise separable convolution (DSC) and a local and non-local mixture (LNLM) block to significantly reduce computational costs. Additionally, the LNLM incorporates a variable window size-based multi-scale attention mechanism (VW-MSA), enabling it to effectively learn from both local detailed features and global high-level meaningful features. Extensive simulations demonstrate that LICRnet significantly reduces computational complexity while maintaining satisfactory image compression and reconstruction performance, making it highly suitable for deployment in resource-constrained environments. © 2014 IEEE.

As containerization continues to gain prominence in modern application deployment, the need for efficient autoscaling mechanisms becomes paramount to ensure optimal resource utilization and adherence to service level objectives. This research paper proposes a Predictive Auto-scaling framework leveraging machine-learning(ML) techniques to anticipate and proactively adjust the resources allotted to containerized applications. The aim is to enhance the scalability and responsiveness of applications running in dynamic and cloud-native environments. An auto-scaling technique with burst awareness for containerized applications is proposed in this research. This innovative method optimizes container utilization while meeting the Quality-of-Service requirement by taking into account a mix of both vertical and horizontal skills. The proposed proactive autoscaling strategy addresses the challenges posed by unpredictable workloads and varying application demands, fostering adaptability to dynamic environments. By highlighting the significance of machine learning in improving the predictability and effectiveness of resource scaling for containerized systems, this study adds to new work of research on auto-scaling methodologies. © 2024 IEEE.
