Improving Robustness of Time-Aware Shaper in Time-Sensitive Networking

Deterministic delivery of scheduled traffic (ST) is critical in time-sensitive networking (TSN). The time-aware shaper (TAS) defined by IEEE 802.1Qbv is the enabler to ensure deterministic end-to-end delays of ST flows. However, TAS does not consider the emergency sporadic flows that commonly exist in automotive and industrial control applications. Therefore, TAS cannot resist the interference of emergency sporadic traffic on normal scheduled traffic. In this paper, we improve the TAS’s time slot allocation and queue occupancy rule and propose a combined scheduling strategy composed of dynamic local regulation and static global planning. Dynamic local regulation executes the earliest deadline first (EDF) discipline at switching nodes to adjust ST frames’ transmission dynamically. Static global planning calculates the offset of ST flows at the source and guarantees bounded delay and jitter. Furthermore, we formalize the offset optimizing problem with considering the EDF, delay, and jitter constraints. Finally, we implement our prototype on OMNet++ 6.0.1. Simulation results further demonstrate that the combined strategy has bounded latency and jitter in the presence of emergency sporadic flows. Besides, the comparison experiments show that our design is superior to eTAS in terms of the jitter and end-to-end delay. © 2014 IEEE.

With the rapid advancement of 6G, the task offloading has emerged as a critical issue for enhancing computational efficiency in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). However, industrial devices are often constrained by computing power, energy and mobility, challenging the delay-sensitive and compute-intensive tasks consisting of subtasks with complex dependencies, e.g., industrial image recognition. Given the increasing task complexity, developing efficient offloading strategies in dynamic multi-slot industrial scenarios with mobile devices remains a challenge. To address this issue, a task offloading scheme for industrial image recognition in Digital Twin Edge Networks (DITEN) is proposed. By leveraging the Digital Twin (DT) to accurately model the states of mobile industrial tasks and edge servers, the task offloading is formulated to optimize the weighted sum of task processing delay and energy consumption, that is proven to be NP-hard. Since the task of image recognition can be represented as a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG), the dependencies between subtasks are extracted using Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) to generate optimal execution priorities for task offloading. Through proving the optimization problem as a Markov Decision Process (MDP), an improved Multi-Agent Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient algorithm, named -ATN-MADDPG, incorporating the -greedy strategy and the self-attention mechanism to enable efficient decision-making in dynamic environments, is designed to offer a promising solution. Experimental results on the KolektorSDD dataset demonstrate that this solution outperforms compared methods. © 2014 IEEE.

Remote backup is an effective alternative to local backup. It overcomes the shortcomings of local backup that is easy to be stolen and tampered with. In order to protect sensitive information, it is usually necessary to encrypt the sensitive information before uploading to the remote server. How to protect the encryption key used in the remote backup scheme is a crucial issue. Liu et al. (IET information Security 2017) designed a data backup scheme using secret sharing scheme and mutual authentication scheme. They divided the key into three parts and stored them in the laptop, smart card and server respectively. The key can be reconstructed from any two parts. However, Hu et al. (IET information Security 2019) found that Liu et al.'s scheme cannot resist offline password guessing attack, server impersonation attack and user impersonation attack. Then they proposed an enhanced scheme. Unfortunately, we find that Hu et al.'s scheme cannot cope with offline guessing attack, replay attack, denial of service attack. Besides, their scheme does not consider the case that the smart card and the laptop may be tampered with. Moreover, in their scheme, a malicious server may transmit false information to the laptop or smart card which may lead the user to reconstruct an incorrect key. To solve the above problems, we propose an improved data backup scheme based on multifactor authentication. We show that our scheme can resist the above adversary attacks. Besides, our scheme can detect tampering of smart cards and laptops. Moreover, our scheme can quickly detect the incorrect information transmitted by a malicious server. © 2023 IEEE.

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are a type of wireless communication network that enable vehicles to communicate with each other and with roadside infrastructure in a peer-to-peer fashion;despite their vast applications, they come with several shortcomings. The key challenges in their real-world implementation include scalability, connectivity, and coverage issues. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, can complement existing VANETs in several ways to enhance their functionality and address some of their limitations. This paper studies the incorporation of UAVs in VANETs to overcome the challenges faced by the present networks. The approach is based on the dynamic deployment of UAVs in the most optimal positions, found by utilizing Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant Colony algorithms which analyze the vehicle density, and previous coverage information in the network. The deployment of UAVs is intended to provide a seamless network coverage for ground vehicles. The impact of dynamic UAV mobility in communicating VANETs is comparatively studied. The simulation is done using Network Simulator-3 (NS3) simulator to evaluate the performance of 4 VANET protocols, AODV, DSR, OLSR, and DSDV, in terms of packet delivery ratio (PDR), Average End-to-End Delay, Throughput, Average Throughput per Packet, Packet Drop Rate, and Normalized Routing Load after incorporating the proposed modification designs. The paper concludes that the incorporation of Ant Colony is better suited to enhance VANETs than PSO. © 2024 IEEE.

Smart grid,as one of the largest evolutionary critical infrastructures,witnesses the deep integration of cyber technologies and physical ***,recent events show that the vulnerabilities exposed in the cyber side and the physical side can be exploited to cause coupled and severe ***,the adversaries are able to mask the pernicious physical attack using the cyber attack by compromising the digitized data transmitted to the control *** cooperative cyber-physical attack(CCPA) is stealthy to the current defense *** this article,we propose a cyber-physical defensive mechanism(CPDM) to thwart the *** changing the physical value of the line admittance,the model parameters known by the adversary are not useful anymore,which is the basic idea to design the *** implementation of CPDM depends on the deployment of the distributed flexible AC transmission system(D-FACTS).To reduce the infrastructure cost for the CPDM,we investigate the minimum number of required D-FACTS devices to thwart the *** consider both weak constraints on the CCPA and CPDM and practical limitations for the CCPA and *** each case,we propose a method to compute the optimal deployment of D-FACTS devices,that is,where the DFACTS device should be deployed.

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are a self-organizing and adaptive technique comprising several mobile nodes. These networks’ dynamic and changeable architecture creates substantial issues in terms of trust and security for wireless communication lines. To solve these concerns, the Modified Whale Optimization Algorithm (MWOA) is used to provide a secure clustering and routing solution in MANET. The Modified K-means (MKM) method is used in the Cluster Head (CH) selection process to provide effective transmission to the target node without packet loss. MWOA, an optimized technique, is introduced to improve MANET routing security. Key parameters such as energy consumption (EC), packet delivery ratio (PDR), throughput, network Lifetime (NL), and end-to-end delay (EED) are used to evaluate the suggested methodology. With the advent of autonomous driving, the seamless integration of autonomous vehicles (AVs) with humandriven vehicles (HDVs) poses significant challenges. Particularly, at unsignalized intersections lacking explicit coordination, safely predicting and accommodating the unprotected left-turn behaviors of drivers with varying preferences is challenging. This study introduces a novel framework that integrates Social Value Orientation (SVO) with Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) and a Motion Safety Controller (MSC), targeting the enhancement of AVs safety and efficiency in these complex scenarios. Integrating the SVO into the DRL reward function encourages socially considerate behaviors among AVs to minimize potential incidents. Equipped with a track supervisor and a motion controller, the MSC assists in foreseeing and mitigating hazards, thus enhancing road safety. Our study trains, evaluates, and validates the efficacy of our proposed method on a gym-like highway simulator. The method surpasses existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) baseline models in reducing collision rates and improving vehicular behavior. This study represents a significant advancement in autonomous driving, addressing complex unprotected left turns at intersections and aligning technological innovations with the societal need for safer roads. The authentication process consists of two-way including stoner verification and origin verification. Authentication consists of two ways which includes validating the stoner and determining the provenance of the data source. Access control can give authorized individualities access to the payment system while precluding unauthorized people from penetrating the payment system. To avoid unresistant assaults on sale data, the information must also be kept nonpublic. The vacuity of the payment system guarantees that it's accessible. Data integrity prevents data from being tampered with, and non-repudiation verifies that the communication was transferred by a specific stoner. Enabling Accurate and Efficient Privacy-Preserving Truth Discovery for Sparse Crowdsensing

Mobile users often prefer to sense only a subset of tasks based on their preferences or physical conditions, which distinguishes sparse crowdsensing from traditional crowdsensing. Sparse crowdsensing not only introduces a potential risk of privacy leakage regarding users' preferences or conditions - due to the revelation of specific sensed objects - but also results in reduced accuracy of truth estimation. To address these challenges, we propose a Privacy-Preserving Truth Discovery (PPTD) scheme, named S-PPTD, that enables accurate and efficient PPTD for sparse crowdsensing. Our approach leverages edge nodes to geographically group users and introduces an effective padding strategy based on Bloom filters and mixed secret sharing. This strategy allows users to obfuscate the objects they sense, preventing adversaries from determining the specific objects being sensed. To improve accuracy, we design new protocols for precise and efficient approximation of nonlinear functions, enabling the use of commonly applied kernel functions to capture spatial and temporal correlations between objects, and incorporate these into the truth estimation process. Through extensive experiments and security analysis, we demonstrate that S-PPTD is secure, accurate, and efficient in the context of sparse mobile crowdsensing. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Although 5G networks have gradually commercialized, many scenarios like emergency areas and remote regions still exist with vast communication problems. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of civil-aircraft augmented space-air-ground integrated networks (CAA-SAGIN), where the user's association strategy can be determined intelligently. First, we discuss the influence of the spatial distribution of civil aircrafts (CAs) and satellites on the Rician factor. Then, we provide a novel and simple expression of moment-generating functions related to small-fading variables. With massive visible access points (APs), we combine two user-centric connectivity methods, i.e., multiple resource blocks in a single AP (MRB-SA) and collaborative connectivity in multiple APs (CC-MA), and each segment's ergodic capacity and coverage probability are investigated respectively. The numerical results demonstrate that CA networks can provide similar coverage and capacity performance as satellite networks in the given range. The advantages of introducing CAs to the satellite-terrestrial integrated networks are significant under the combined connectivity methods. This paper quantitatively proves CA networks' benefits in capacity and coverage and lays a theoretical foundation for CAA-SAGIN. © 2015 IEEE.
