Causal discovery from observational data is crucial for understanding complex systems, but traditional methods often require centralized data, conflicting with growing privacy concerns. Although federated causal discovery (FCD) has emerged as a solution, existing methods struggle when individual clients possess limited local samples. This paper introduces FedECD, a novel approach addressing causal discovery in federated settings with limited local samples. FedECD comprises two phases: 1) Federated Causal Skeleton Optimization and 2) Federated Causal Structure Refinement, both leveraging Bootstrapping techniques to enhance robustness and accuracy across distributed clients. Both phases employ a two-layer aggregation strategy: client-layer aggregates results from Bootstrapped sub-datasets within each client, while server-layer aggregates across all clients. The first phase uses weighted aggregation to iteratively remove false causal edges based on conditional independence tests. In contrast, the second phase utilizes majority voting to determine edge directions, ensuring robust estimation of the true causal structure. Extensive experiments on eight benchmark Bayesian network datasets demonstrate the superiority of FedECD over existing FCD methods, particularly with limited sample sizes. FedECD achieves an average improvement of 7.53% in the Ar_F1 score compared to the best baseline, addressing a critical challenge in FCD. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

There are service communities with different functions in the Bitcoin transactions system. Identifying community categories helps to further understand the Bitcoin transactions system and facilitates targeted regulation of anonymized Bitcoin transactions. To this end, a Bitcoin service community classification method based on Random Forest and improved K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm is proposed. First, the transaction characteristics of different types of communities are analyzed and summarized, and the corresponding transaction features are extracted from the address and entity levels;then multiple classification algorithms are compared, the optimal model to filter the effective features is selected, and the feature vector of entity addresses is constructed. Finally, a classification model is constructed based on Random Forest and improved KNN algorithm to classify the entities. By constructing different classification models for experimental comparison, the accuracy and stability advantages of the proposed method for classification in service community classification research are verified. © 2024 The Authors. The structure of railway systems is complex, and accurately and rapidly identifying the root cause of faults post-occurrence is an emerging challenge in the industry. However, railway fault tracing mainly relies on manual experience and traditional data analysis techniques, with most tracing methods suffering from low efficiency and insufficient accuracy. To address these issues, this paper proposes a railway safety equipment fault tracing method based on knowledge graphs and weighted path ranking algorithm. The approach integrates knowledge graphs with Bayesian networks, attention mechanisms, and graph computation, utilizing a weighted calculation to run the weighted path ranking algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves excellent tracing performance in the field of railway equipment. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid expansion of railway networks and technological advancements has introduced significant challenges in ensuring railway safety. To address the critical need for effective prediction and prevention mechanisms, this paper proposes the FCAM-TCN-DSInformer model, a novel approach to railway accident prediction. The model integrates the Fourier-based Channel Attention Mechanism (FCAM), Temporal Convolutional network (TCN), and De-stationary Informer (DSInformer) to capture both temporal and spectral features from time series data effectively. Extensive experiments and ablation studies were conducted to validate the model's performance. The results demonstrate that the FCAM-TCN-DSInformer model significantly outperforms both traditional and advanced models, including ARIMA, LSTM, GRU, Transformer, Autoformer, and FEDformer by achieving the highest R2 score and substantial reductions in error metrics such as RMSE, MAE, and MAPE. These improvements confirm the model's accuracy and robustness, making it a powerful tool for railway safety management. Moreover, the model's adaptability to different univariate time series datasets, such as the Daily Minimum Temperatures Dataset and the US Births Dataset, highlights its strong generalization capabilities. Future work will focus on optimizing the model for real-time predictions and expanding its application to multi-step prediction tasks, thereby fully realizing its potential across diverse forecasting contexts. © 2024 IEEE.

Many sophisticated cloud platforms are available to provide services such as storage and computation for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. However, with the concerns about the semi-trusted nature of cloud platforms, data security and privacy have been gaining broad attention. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-assisted verifiable data sharing scheme (BAV-DSS) for IoT. The BAV-DSS features fine-grained access control, fast encryption, and outsourced decryption with verifiability. Specifically, with the application of ciphertext-policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE), flexible access control is enabled. Blockchain is employed to store public keys, generate account addresses, and perform data verification. Furthermore, the selective replayable chosen ciphertext attacks (sRCCA) security of BAV-DSS is proved, and the simulation results indicate that BAV-DSS obtains high efficiency and practicality compared to other schemes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Learning a generalizable re-identification model from unlabelled data with domain-agnostic expert

In response to real-world scenarios, the domain generalization (DG) problem has spurred considerable research in person re-identification (ReID). This challenge arises when the target domain, which is significantly different from the source domains, remains unknown. However, the performance of current DG ReID relies heavily on labor-intensive source domain annotations. Considering the potential of unlabeled data, we investigate unsupervised domain generalization (UDG) in ReID. Our goal is to create a model that can generalize from unlabeled source domains to semantically retrieve images in an unseen target domain. To address this, we propose a new approach that trains a domain-agnostic expert (DaE) for unsupervised domain-generalizable person ReID. This involves independently training multiple experts to account for label space inconsistencies between source domains. At the same time, the DaE captures domain-generalizable information for testing. Our experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of this method for learning generalizable features under the UDG setting. The results demonstrate the superiority of our method over state-of-the-art techniques. We will make our code and models available for public use. © The Author(s) 2024.

The current interactive retrieval system mostly relies on collecting user’s positive and negative feedback and updating the retrieval content based on this feedback. However, this method is not always sufficient to accurately express users’ retrieval intent. Inspired by the powerful language understanding capability of the Large Language Model (LLM), we propose TalkSee, an interactive video retrieval engine using LLM for interaction in order to better capture users’ latent retrieval intentions. We use the large language model for processing positive and negative feedback into natural language interactions. Specifically, combined with feedback, we leverage LLM to generate questions, update the queries, and conduct re-ranking. Last but not least, we design a tailored interactive user interface (UI) in conjunction with the above method for more efficient and effective video retrieval. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Tensor data is widely used in fields such as smart grids, cloud systems, and deep learning. As the scale of this data increases, storage and transmission costs rise significantly. Many tensor data exhibit low-rank structures, offering the potential for data compression through low-rank decomposition techniques. Tucker decomposition, a typical low-rank decomposition technique, achieves data compression and interpretability by capturing complex data correlations and representing the original tensor with a compact core tensor and factor matrices. However, the compression ratio provided by Tucker decomposition is often insufficient, particularly for large-scale tensors. To tackle this issue, we propose a robust low-rank tensor compression method that leverages Tucker decomposition with quantization and coding. Initially, we establish a robust Tucker decomposition framework that decomposes the low-rank tensor into a core tensor and factor matrices using well-designed Tucker rank-setting rules. This framework effectively handles noise and missing values. Subsequently, we conduct an in-depth analysis of the numerical characteristics of the core tensor and factor matrices within the Tucker decomposition framework. Based on their distinct characteristics, we design tailored quantization and coding schemes to compress the core tensor and factor matrices, respectively, thereby significantly improving the compression ratio of Tucker decomposition while maintaining high accu-racy. Through extensive experiments on four publicly available datasets (which can form 3 or 4 order tensors), we demonstrate that our approach can achieve compression ratios 4×-10× higher than the best competitor, with recovery errors improved by 8% -42%. © 2024 IEEE.

Cross chain contact across several blockchains becomes increasingly significant in importance with the increased use of blockchain technology. However, security cannot be assured when producing equivalent outputs through cross-chain transmission because it is simple to launch an assault, and without security measures;it is simple to cause the transmission material to be stolen. This article combines TPM, IBC, and associates encryption and decryption techniques for protection to overcome this issue. We have establishes the viability and efficacy of the suggested method through testing and performance analyses. The experimental findings show that our approach can successfully preserve privacy and guarantee the security of data transfer. © 2024 IEEE.
