Fundus images are commonly used to document the presence and severity of various retinal degenerative diseases, where the fovea, optic disc (OD), and optic cup (OC) serve as important anatomical landmarks. Locating and segmenting these landmarks are crucial for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Many existing methods treat the recognition of the fovea, OD, and OC as separate tasks without incorporating any clinical prior knowledge related to various anatomical structures. In this paper, we propose a prior information guided coarse-to-fine dual-branch encoding network, which enables fovea localization and OD/OC segmentation. In coarse stage, we employ a dual-branch network consisting of convolutional neural network (CNN) and Transformer to encode local and global features, and then utilize multi-scale feature fusion techniques to merge the extracted semantic features, aiming to enhance the localization accuracy. In addition, we effectively use the distance information from each pixel to the landmark of interest, and output the results of distance map and heat map regression as prior information to further guide the network to learn the positional relationship between fovea and OD. In fine stage, we refine the region of interest (ROI) of the OD, balance the distribution of the OD and OC using polar coordinate transformation (PCT), extract critical boundary features using the boundary attention module (BAM), and improve the generalization performance of our method through model ensemble strategy. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods on the publicly available GAMMA and REFUGE datasets. © 2023 IEEE.

Facial Action Unit (AU) detection is a crucial task in affective computing and social robotics as it helps to identify emotions expressed through facial expressions. Anatomically, there are innumerable correlations between AUs, which contain rich information and are vital for AU detection. Previous methods used fixed AU correlations based on expert experience or statistical rules on specific benchmarks, but it is challenging to comprehensively reflect complex correlations between AUs via hand-crafted settings. There are alternative methods that employ a fully connected graph to learn these dependencies exhaustively. However, these approaches can result in a computational explosion and high dependency with a large dataset. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel self-adjusting AU-correlation learning (SACL) method with less computation for AU detection. This method adaptively learns and updates AU correlation graphs by efficiently leveraging the characteristics of different levels of AU motion and emotion representation information extracted in different stages of the network. Moreover, this paper explores the role of multi-scale learning in correlation information extraction, and design a simple yet effective multi-scale feature learning (MSFL) method to promote better performance in AU detection. By integrating AU correlation information with multi-scale features, the proposed method obtains a more robust feature representation for the final AU detection. Extensive experiments show that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on widely used AU detection benchmark datasets, with only 28.7% and 12.0% of the parameters and FLOPs of the best method, respectively. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Multimodal relation extraction is a fundamental task of multimodal information extraction. Recent studies have shown promising results by integrating hierarchical visual features from local regions, like image patches, to the broader global regions that form the entire image. However, research to date has largely ignored the understanding of how hierarchical visual semantics are represented and the characteristics that can benefit relation extraction. To bridge this gap, we propose a novel two-stage hierarchical visual context fusion transformer incorporating the mixture of multimodal experts framework to effectively represent and integrate hierarchical visual features into textual semantic representations. In addition, we introduce the concept of hierarchical tracking maps to facilitate the understanding of the intrinsic mechanisms of image information processing involved in multimodal models. We thoroughly investigate the implications of hierarchical visual contexts through four dimensions: performance evaluation, the nature of auxiliary visual information, the patterns observed in the image encoding hierarchy, and the significance of various visual encoding levels. Empirical studies show that our approach achieves new state-of-the-art performance on the MNRE dataset. © 2024 ACM.

Federated learning has been used extensively in business inno-vation scenarios in various *** research adopts the federated learning approach for the first time to address the issue of bank-enterprise information asymmetry in the credit assessment ***,this research designs a credit risk assessment model based on federated learning and feature selection for micro and small enterprises(MSEs)using multi-dimensional enterprise data and multi-perspective enterprise *** proposed model includes four main processes:namely encrypted entity alignment,hybrid feature selection,secure multi-party computation,and global model ***,a two-step feature selection algorithm based on wrapper and filter is designed to construct the optimal feature set in multi-source heterogeneous data,which can provide excellent accuracy and *** addition,a local update screening strategy is proposed to select trustworthy model parameters for aggregation each time to ensure the quality of the global *** results of the study show that the model error rate is reduced by 6.22%and the recall rate is improved by 11.03%compared to the algorithms commonly used in credit risk research,significantly improving the ability to identify ***,the business operations of commercial banks are used to confirm the potential of the proposed model for real-world implementation.

Medical image anomaly detection refers to machine learning techniques to analyze and identify lesions and abnormalities in them. However, in medical images, anomaly samples are usually sparse, which can lead to supervised learning not being able to obtain sufficient training. While existing unsupervised learning is mainly based on reconstruction and generation as well as feature embedding, these methods do not take into account the problem of data type bias during domain migration and often face the problem of loose judgment boundaries. To this end, this paper proposes a novel unsupervised learning method, SyNet, based on noisy anomaly synthesis. First, the problem at domain migration is well solved by aggregating the range of features within the feature map, fusing the multiscale features at the intermediate level, and adding feature adapters. Then, anomaly samples are synthesized by adding noise in the feature space, which is more efficient and stable than generating samples in the image space. Finally, normal and abnormal data are distinguished by training the discriminator. In this paper, experiments are conducted on ISIC and brain MRI datasets, and SyNet achieves nearly 20% improvement in AUC, ACC and other metrics compared with the current mainstream methods, and also has good inference efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

Cloud computing, as a cutting-edge computing paradigm, offers substantial data processing and storage capabilities. In a heterogeneous cloud environment, the diversity among cloud platforms results in varying task execution times, posing challenges in minimizing workflow makespan under budget constraints. On this basis, a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, named snake optimizer (SO), is proposed for workflow scheduling in the cloud. Then, a negative offset mechanism is designed to dynamically guide the offset of individual positions during population update to prevent falling into local optimums, thereby optimizing the search for feasible solutions and improving the success rate. Finally, using the negative offset mechanism, a snake optimization budget-aware scheduling algorithm (NO-SO) is developed to schedule budget-constrained workflows in heterogeneous cloud computing environments and minimize the makespan. A series of comparative experiments conducted on real-world scientific workflows demonstrates that the NO-SO algorithm enhances the success rate in finding a feasible solution by 38.89% and 34.45% compared with the advanced MG-PRO algorithm and the original SO algorithm, respectively. Moreover, it achieves an average reduction in makespan of 30.30% and 32.19%. © 2024 IEEE.

Neural-symbolic systems (NSSs), which are typically cyber-physical systems integrated with artificial intelligence modules, have received much attention in both academic and industrial fields. However, thorough verification (such as model checking) of such systems in general leads to prohibitively high costs due to the scale of the state space, and this makes it barely accomplishable within desired time-span. Consequently, light-weight verification techniques are introduced to deal with such cases, e.g., runtime verification (RV, for short). In this paper, we investigate an RV framework for NSSs against signal temporal logic (STL) properties. To guarantee that the on-line monitoring could be accomplished in time, we utilize Euler-prediction to sample the system under scrutiny at discrete time-steps. Our framework supports both qualitative and quantitative on-line monitoring of STL specifications, and thus it terminates whenever a property is satisfied and/or violated by a finite prefix of the trajectory, and it can also provide the bounds of the quantitative satisfaction/violation w.r.t. the remaining execution. Notably, for the so-called piece-wise linear NSSs against affine STL formulas, our approach is exact. On top of it, a prototype tool is implemented, and is experimentally evaluated. Achieving optimal protein solubility is pivotal for efficient high-throughput purification, especially in industrial settings. However, conventional experimental techniques for assessing protein solubility in such contexts are not only costly but also time-intensive. Currently, numerous methods are available for predicting protein solubility, yet their effectiveness remains limited. Most of these approaches are predominantly sequence-based, failing to harness the invaluable structural insights inherent in proteins. Addressing these limitations, we introduce PPSol, an innovative protein solubility prediction methodology. Operating on protein sequences, PPSol employs ESM2 to predict protein contact maps, forming the basis for constructing protein graphs. Subsequently, well-established techniques are employed to predict protein feature representations as node features, including the utilization of the Position-Specific Scoring Matrix (PSSM). The resulting graph is fed into a graph convolutional neural network (GCN), enabling the acquisition of spatial structural information from proteins. Concurrently, ESM2-generated features undergo dimensional reduction via fully connected layers, integrating into every layer of the GCN for precise protein solubility prediction. Our approach excels through the fusion of pre-trained protein language models and GCNs, surpassing existing methodologies. Notably, PPSol attains state-of-the-art performance, showcasing a remarkable 2.8% enhancement in AUROC performance com-pared to prior strategies. © 2023 IEEE.
