Data-aided channel estimation is a promising solution to improve channel estimation accuracy by exploiting data symbols as pilot signals for updating an initial channel estimate. In this paper, we propose a semi-data-aided channel estimator for multiple-input multiple-output communication systems. Our strategy is to leverage reinforcement learning (RL) for selecting reliable detected symbols among the symbols in the first part of transmitted data block. This strategy facilitates an update of the channel estimate before the end of data block transmission and therefore achieves a significant reduction in communication latency compared to conventional data-aided channel estimation approaches. Towards this end, we first define a Markov decision process (MDP) which sequentially decides whether to use each detected symbol as an additional pilot signal. We then develop an RL algorithm to efficiently find the best policy of the MDP based on a Monte Carlo tree search approach. In this algorithm, we exploit the a-posteriori probability for approximating both the optimal future actions and the corresponding state transitions of the MDP and derive a closed-form expression for the best policy. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed channel estimator effectively mitigates both channel estimation error and detection performance loss caused by insufficient pilot signals. Detecting anomalies for key performance indicator (KPI) data is of paramount importance to ensure the quality and reliability of network services. However, building the anomaly detection system for KPI is challenging due to the scarcity of abnormal labels and highly dynamic or even unseen patterns. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised KPI anomaly detection framework named PRAD by jointly optimizing prediction-based and reconstruction-based modules. Specifically, PRAD employs two parallel graph attention networks (GATs) to learn metric-oriented and time-oriented relationships. A temporal convolutional attention network (TCAN) is used to capture complex long-term dependencies. Furthermore, to tackle the overfitting issue in the variational auto-encoder (VAE), PRAD designs a reconstruction-based module that combines VAE with a generative adversarial network (GAN). The experimental results on the two public datasets demonstrate that the proposed PRAD outperforms existing anomaly detection methods.

In this report, we summarize the first NTIRE challenge on light field (LF) image super-resolution (SR), which aims at super-resolving LF images under the standard bicubic degradation with a magnification factor of 4. This challenge develops a new LF dataset called NTIRE-2023 for validation and test, and provides a toolbox called BasicLFSR to facilitate model development. Compared with single image SR, the major challenge of LF image SR lies in how to exploit complementary angular information from plenty of views with varying disparities. In total, 148 participants have registered the challenge, and 11 teams have successfully submitted results with PSNR scores higher than the baseline method LF-InterNet [1]. These newly developed methods have set new state-of-the-art in LF image SR, e.g., the winning method achieves around 1 dB PSNR improvement over the existing state-of-the-art method DistgSSR [2]. We report the solutions proposed by the participants, and summarize their common trends and useful tricks. Live streaming as co-performance: Dynamics between center and periphery in theatrical engagement

Live streaming is a highly participatory form of performance, involving various types of audience participation such as liking, commenting, and gifting. But how do streamers and audiences collaborate to deliver live streaming performances? We approach this question through an interview study with 30 spectators and eight streamers in China. Drawing from theatrical engagement research, we use the cogitative spatial concept of center-peripheral attention of the audience to analyze the complex interplay between streamers and spectators, where the former occupy the center and the latter the periphery. We then discuss the orchestration of the center and the periphery, where streamers and spectators coordinate their respective performances, as well as the interaction between the center and the periphery, where the center-periphery distinction blurs. Based on these findings, we discuss co-performance as a theatrical metaphor for understanding live streaming and audience engagement. Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). Cross-silo federated learning (CFL) is a distributed learning paradigm that allows organizations (e.g., financial or medical entities) to train a global model on siloed data. Recent studies on mechanisms designed for CFL, however, rarely jointly consider the potential inter-organizational competition and the lack of credibility between organizations, which may discourage organizational participation. In this paper, we investigate the problem of inter-organizational competition and credibility assurance. We propose a distributed trading mechanism, called $TradeFL$ , to incentivize organizations to contribute data and computational resources through mutual trading among organizations. Technically, TradeFL characterizes the competition among organizations and compensates for their damage incurred by competition. TradeFL runs on distributed organizations and provides credibility guarantees for compensation through a customized smart contract 1 1 Illustration of the prototype: https://***/user10963.. We prove that the interaction among organizations that contribute resources to maximize personal payoffs is a weighted potential game. Then, we propose a centralized algorithm and a distributed algorithm to determine the optimal resource contribution. Simulation results and evaluations based on real-world datasets demonstrate that our scheme achieves higher social welfare, increases the amount of contributed data by up to 64%, and improves the accuracy of the global model by at most 23.2%.

The fifth generation (5G) networks and internet of things (IoT) promise to transform our lives by enabling various new applications from driver-less cars to smart cities. These applications will introduce enormous amount of data traffic and number of connected devices in addition to the current wireless networks. Thus 5G networks require many researches to develop novel telecommunication technologies to accommodate these increase in data traffic and connected devices. In this paper, novel power constraint optimization and optimal beam tracking schemes are proposed for mobile mmWave massive MIMO communications. A recently published novel channel model that is different from other widely used ones is considered. The channel model considers the number of clusters and number of rays within each cluster as varying due to user mobility. The proposed power constraint optimization scheme harmonizes conventional total power constraint (TPC) and uniform power constraint (UPC) schemes into a new one called allied power constraint (APC) that can significantly improve the system performance in 5G networks while achieving fairness among users. TPC and UPC have major drawbacks with respect to fairness and achieving quality-of-service (QoS) for users in dense networks. Thus APC aims to harmonize TPC and UPC by adjusting each antenna element’s constraint to adapt for some power resilience to a specific antenna element, hence proposing an intermediate solution between the two extreme case power constraint optimization schemes. Three optimal beam tracking schemes: (i) conventional exhaustive search (CES), (ii) multiobjective joint optimization codebook (MJOC), and (iii) linear hybrid combiner (LHS) scheme, have been provided for the mobile mmWave massive MIMO system with the proposed APC scheme. In this work, thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method was adopted to manufacture polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) blend hollow fiber microfiltration membrane with tenon-connection structure, which is used to fasten in Chinese traditional building by the stronger friction between rabbet and mortise, for water treatment by blending polyvinyl butyral (PVB). In this microstructure formation process, the distribution of PVB within the matrix and its regulatory role were investigated. Especially, the comprehensive effect of rabbeting and PVB adhesion on strength (The maximum breaking strength reached 17.08 MPa) was discussed. The results showed that a suitable PVB will markedly reduce the thickness of skin-layer close to the outside surface even for the solid-liquid (S-L) phase separation while the excessive PVB result in a thick skin-layer. Besides the strength, PVB markedly improved the hydrophilicity and permeability of the membrane. The breaking strength is more than 8 MPa, the maximum pure water flux is as high as 929.23 L m⁻² h⁻¹ and the rejection rate of carbon particles is nearly 100% even the polymer content is only 22%. In addition, the membrane showed a β-phase and an improved anti-fouling capacity. The investigation presented a simple way to regulate microstructure, enhance mechanical strength, flux and anti-fouling capacity of the membrane via the TIPS process for water treatment. © 2018

Refine-Net: Normal Refinement Neural Network for Noisy Point Clouds

Point normal, as an intrinsic geometric property of 3D objects, not only serves conventional geometric tasks such as surface consolidation and reconstruction, but also facilitates cutting-edge learning-based techniques for shape analysis and generation. In this paper, we propose a normal refinement network, called Refine-Net, to predict accurate normals for noisy point clouds. Traditional normal estimation wisdom heavily depends on priors such as surface shapes or noise distributions, while learning-based solutions settle for single types of hand-crafted features. Differently, our network is designed to refine the initial normal of each point by extracting additional information from multiple feature representations. To this end, several feature modules are developed and incorporated into Refine-Net by a novel connection module. Besides the overall network architecture of Refine-Net, we propose a new multi-scale fitting patch selection scheme for the initial normal estimation, by absorbing geometry domain knowledge. Also, Refine-Net is a generic normal estimation framework: 1) point normals obtained from other methods can be further refined, and 2) any feature module related to the surface geometric structures can be potentially integrated into the framework. Qualitative and quantitative evaluations demonstrate the clear superiority of Refine-Net over the state-of-the-arts on both synthetic and real-scanned datasets. Fractional-order systems generalize classical differential systems and have empirically shown to achieve fine-grain modeling of the temporal dynamics and frequency responses of certain real-world phenomena. Although the study of integer-order memory element (mem-element) emulators has persisted for several years, the study of fractional-order memory elements (FOMEs) has received little attention. To promote the study of the characteristics and applications of mem-element systems in fractional calculus (FC) and memory systems, in this paper, we propose a novel universal interface for constructing floating FOMEs. When the topological structure of the interface remains unchanged, the floating fractional-order memristor (FOMR), fractional-order memcapacitor (FOMC) and fractional-order meminductor (FOMI) emulators can be realized by using the impedance combinations of different passive elements, without any mem-element emulators and mutators. When compared with previously proposed FOMEs, the proposed fractional-order mem-element emulators based on a universal interface not only feature the characteristics of floating terminals and simpler circuit structures, but can also realize all three different types of FOMEs. To explore the dynamical relationships between the mem-elements and the fractional order, we mathematically derive and analyze the maximum and minimum possible values of memductance, memcapacitance and inverse meminductance which accounts for practical design considerations when building FO systems. The memory characteristics of FOMEs are analyzed by varying their orders and stimuli frequencies. The consistency of theoretical analysis, numerical calculation and simulation results validates the correctness of our proposed emulators. © 2021, CC BY.
