Great efforts have been made to deal with localization based on time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) measurements in the past decades. It is widely used in applications such as radar, sonar, sensor networks, and mobile communications. However, such a task is still challenging in complex real-world scenarios where large-scale noise and none-light-of-sight (NLOS) occur. To address this challenge, we propose a noise-tolerant method consisting of two stages: Robust Multilateration Solver (RMS) and Restricted Particle Filter (RPF). In the first stage, anomaly detection is adopted to eliminate outliers and NLOS effects are mitigated by a data augmentation strategy. Then a rough estimate of the current position is obtained by a combination of two modified multilateration algorithms. In the second stage, the rough estimate is passed through an enhanced particle filter in order to reduce its bias caused by heavy Gaussian noise and smooth the motion trajectory. Meanwhile, the localization rationality is guaranteed by confining the position to a predefined area. Sufficient testing in real indoor environments and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, revealing its fitness for various industrial fields. © 2022, The Authors. Data centers are critical infrastructures that support a multitude of business loads such as big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. While providing the necessary computing power, the problem of high energy consumption in data centers has become a major obstacle limiting their scale-up, reliability and quality of service. Improving the power usage effectiveness (PUE) of data centers is an important way to improve the energy efficiency of data centers. With the development of theories and methods of machine learning, modeling, analysis and prediction of data center energy consumption using machine learning techniques has become a feasible option. In this study, several accurate PUE prediction models are constructed using neural networks and machine learning techniques for the PUE of a small air-cooled data center in actual operation, among which the mean absolute error of the optimal model reaches 0.29%. In addition, this paper also uses Random Forest and Sobol methods to model and conduct sensitivity analyses of key factors affecting data center PUE, revealing the relationship between data center operating parameters and PUE, and finding that the cooling system exhibits different energy consumption patterns under different IT equipment power conditions, which has a decisive impact on PUE. Based on these sensitivity analyses, we argue that for small air-cooled data centers, improving internal insulation and humidity is an important strategy for optimizing PUE.

Recently, image crowdsourcing, a new trading mode, has been proposed to bridge the gap between the excess photos generated by intelligent devices and the great demand for images. However, traditional crowdsourcing methods often rely on centralized platforms, which risk data leakage and a single point of failure (SPOF). Moreover, due to the subjectivity of image quality assessment and the complexity of image data structure, image quality is difficult to control for traditional crowdsourcing frameworks without exposing data privacy. In this work, we propose a blockchain-based image crowdsourcing framework named QAIC to address these issues. Within the framework of QAIC, the transaction information is stored using a multichain structure, and the transaction process is implemented using smart contracts. We design an image selection and pricing mechanism for QAIC, where high-quality image sets can be spontaneously selected, and each image can be dynamically priced based on distortion degree and content relevance. Finally, to accurately obtain image quality, we design a dual output neural network model to evaluate the image quality, where a lightweight architecture is adopted, and piecewise outputs are designed to protect image privacy and reduce the on-chain computational cost Extensive analysis and experiments demonstrate that the quality of transaction data and reasonable pricing can be ensured using the QAIC without compromising image privacy.

The Internet of Things (IoT) connects numerous intelligent devices providing security features that interact with default settings accessed through applications. Additionally, Deep Learning (DL)-based mechanisms was involved for malware detection to identify and mitigate attacks. The Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) technique addresses class imbalances, especially when splitter class instances are distributed data in complex patterns. The proposed Self-Attention based Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) classification method facilitates the handling of long-range dependencies in transferred data sequences offering high flexibility and adaptability to varying input lengths. For feature selection Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is utilized iteratively optimizes a solution in a high-dimensional space although it may have a low convergence rate due to its iterative process. The obtained results demonstrate the proposed Self-Attention based LSTM model achieves better accuracy reaching 98.05% on the NSL-KDD dataset and 99.01 % on the UNSW-NB15 dataset. These results ensure accurate classification compared to other existing methods, such as Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN). © 2024 IEEE.

A Survey on Masked Facial Detection Methods and Datasets for Fighting Against COVID-19

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to pose a great challenge to the world since its outbreak. To fight against the disease, a series of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are developed and applied to real-world scenarios such as safety monitoring, disease diagnosis, infection risk assessment, lesion segmentation of COVID-19 CT scans,etc. The coronavirus epidemics have forced people wear masks to counteract the transmission of virus, which also brings difficulties to monitor large groups of people wearing masks. In this paper, we primarily focus on the AI techniques of masked facial detection and related datasets. We survey the recent advances, beginning with the descriptions of masked facial detection datasets. Thirteen available datasets are described and discussed in details. Then, the methods are roughly categorized into two classes: conventional methods and neural network-based methods. Conventional methods are usually trained by boosting algorithms with handcrafted features, which accounts for a small proportion. Neural network-based methods are further classified as three parts according to the number of processing stages. Representative algorithms are described in detail, coupled with some typical techniques that are described briefly. Finally, we summarize the recent benchmarking results, give the discussions on the limitations of datasets and methods, and expand future research directions. To our knowledge, this is the first survey about masked facial detection methods and datasets. Hopefully our survey could provide some help to fight against epidemics. There are two types of research on abnormal crowd behavior detection: micro modeling methods (e.g., crowd pose) and macro modeling methods (e.g., optical flow methods). In crowd evacuation, however, micro methods fail to solve the occlusion problem, while macro methods fail to address issues such as poor real-time performance and non-adaptive motion target detection. To address these issues, we propose a method that combines macro and micro methods to detect abnormal crowd behavior. Firstly, we extract the two-dimensional poses of moving people using the human pose estimation algorithm (OpenPose) and get the corresponding micro motion features. Secondly, we create an optical flow map of the video using the dense optical flow algorithm (Farneback) and a scene activity map by comparing the optical flow sizes between two consecutive frames. Then we derive the entropy change curve, which represents the macro motion features. Finally, we fuse micro and macro motion features and put the fused hybrid feature vectors into our classification network to train our model, and then find the transition time from micro to macro abnormal states in crowd evacuation videos. The experimental findings demonstrate that our proposed method can more accurately and quickly identify the abnormal behaviors that appear in evacuation scenes.

Model Ownership Protection for Healthcare Consumer Electronics in Federated Edge Learning

With the rising demand for intelligent services and privacy protection in consumer artificial intelligence (AI), federated edge learning has emerged as a beacon for privacy-preserving distributed machine learning. This non-centralized approach offers distinct data privacy advantages, making it especially suitable for applications with strict privacy policies, such as consumer-centric healthcare systems. However, consumer electronics/devices in federated edge learning might unlawfully violate model ownership by duplicating or distributing models. Another concern is that a central server, if compromised, can become a conduit for model leakage, whether for profit motives or due to external intrusions, thus exacerbating the model ownership violation. To our knowledge, few works have focused on model ownership protection for federated edge learning in the consumer-centric healthcare domain. In this paper, we introduce a federated model ownership protection (FedMOP) approach. FedMOP is a model ownership safeguard and a formidable fortress built upon two core innovations. First, FedMOP can swiftly embed and replace watermarks during local training, allowing for the accurate identification and subsequent flagging of deceitful consumer devices. Second, FedMOP ensures that the server only accesses encrypted versions of the federated model, keeping the model a secret. Extensive evaluations demonstrate the robustness and effectiveness of FedMOP. We hope that FedMOP can light the way for surmounting similar ethical challenges in the broader realm of consumer-edge AI. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Deep neural networks (DNNs) have demonstrated exceptional performance, leading to diverse applications across various mobile devices (MDs). Considering factors like portability and environmental sustainability, an increasing number of MDs are adopting energy harvesting (EH) techniques for power supply. However, the computational intensity of DNNs presents significant challenges for their deployment on these resource-constrained devices. Existing approaches often employ DNN partition or offloading to mitigate the time and energy consumption associated with running DNNs on MDs. Nonetheless, existing methods frequently fall short in accurately modeling the execution time of DNNs, and do not consider to use thread allocation for further latency and energy consumption optimization. To solve these problems, we propose a dynamic DNN partition and thread allocation method to optimize the latency and energy consumption of running DNNs on EH-enabled MDs. Specifically, we first investigate the relationship between DNN inference latency and allocated threads and establish an accurate DNN latency prediction model. Based on the prediction model, a DRL-based DNN partition (DDP) algorithm is designed to find the optimal partitions for DNNs. A thread allocation (TA) algorithm is proposed to reduce the inference latency. Experimental results from our test-bed platform demonstrate that compared to four benchmarking methods, our scheme can reduce DNN inference latency and energy consumption by up to 37.3% and 38.5%. © 2025 EDAA.

Point Cloud Registration (PCR) is a critical and challenging task in computer vision and robotics. One of the primary difficulties in PCR is identifying salient and meaningful points that exhibit consistent semantic and geometric properties across different scans. Previous methods have encountered challenges with ambiguous matching due to the similarity among patch blocks throughout the entire point cloud and the lack of consideration for efficient global geometric consistency. To address these issues, we propose a new framework that includes several novel techniques. Firstly, we introduce a semantic-aware geometric encoder that combines object-level and patch-level semantic information. This encoder significantly improves registration recall by reducing ambiguity in patch-level superpoint matching. Additionally, we incorporate a prior knowledge approach that utilizes an intrinsic shape signature to identify salient points. This enables us to extract the most salient super points and meaningful dense points in the scene. Secondly, we introduce an innovative transformer that encodes High-Order (HO) geometric features. These features are crucial for identifying salient points within initial overlap regions while considering global high-order geometric consistency. We introduce an anchor node selection strategy to optimize this high-order transformer further. By encoding inter-frame triangle or polyhedron consistency features based on these anchor nodes, we can effectively learn high-order geometric features of salient super points. These high-order features are then propagated to dense points and utilized by a Sinkhorn matching module to identify critical correspondences for successful registration. The experiments conducted on the 3DMatch/3DLoMatch and KITTI datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
