Dynamical Behavior of an Atomic Beam Interacting with a Fock State Light Field

The collapse and revival of evolution with photon number of population inversion in the case of an atomic beam with velocity distribution interacting with a single-mode and Fock-state light field is investigated by full quantum theory. Compared to the previously reported coherent state case [Li B and Chen J B Chin. Phys. Lett. 26（2009）123203], which was induced by evolution with coupling strength of population inversion, in the case under consideration there exists Poisson distribution of photon numbers and atomic velocity distribution in the beam. Moreover, we prove that above, the collapse and revival have an analogy with conventional collapse and revival [Eberly J H et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 44（1980）1323] in both the mathematical expression and physical significance.

A practical method for evaluating the three-dimensional（3D） position and velocity of a moving object used in the parabolic flight experiment is developed by using the binocular stereo vision measurement theory. The camera calibration mathematic model without considering the lens distortion is *** direct linear transformation（DLT） algorithm is improved to accomplish the camera *** camera calibration result and optimization algorithm are used to calculate the object＇s world coordinate from image *** 3D position and the velocity of the moving object are *** standard uncertainty in estimating the velocity is 0.0024 m/s,which corresponds to 1%level of the velocity of the object in the *** results show that this method is very useful for the parabolic flight experiments.

Profile is the basis of reliability research. There is a lack of study on the communication network profile and test cases generation methods in current research, which will directly affect the validity of reliability evaluation. This paper first presents a new algorithm for reliability test case generation, based on the content of communication network profile. This algorithm can generate test cases according to the statistical laws which are stated in the profile. Then the testing tool LoadRunner is used to generate test case automatically. Finally, a case study is given to show in detail the construction of profile and the process of generating test cases, which proves that the algorithm has vast value in evaluating communication network reliability. © 2010 IEEE.

The content distribution services via the Internet have become popular. However, these services have some problems that prevent users from getting a file efficiently and there still remains much room for improving the performance. In this paper, we focus on representative hybrid P2P network application, BitTorrent, and try to resolve these problems. Because the content files are divided into pieces and finely handled at the piece level, BitTorrent allows users to exchange data efficiently in massively parallel transmission manner. However, there exist some problems with BitTorrent two of which are mainly focused on this paper. The first problem is that BitTorrent has a possibility to lack the nodes who has a entire file. The second one is that some nodes can't receive data for some unfair reason because of the limit on connected nodes. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the method for placing transfer support nodes by service providers to allow users to get contents efficiently and evaluates the proposed method by using computer simulation. © 2010 IEEE.

With the United States national goal and incentive program to transition from paper to electronic health records (EHRs), healthcare organizations are increasingly implementing EHRs and other related health information technology (IT). However, in institutions which have long adopted these computerized systems, such as the Veterans Health Administration, healthcare workers continue to rely on paper to complete their work. Furthermore, insufficient EHR design also results in computer-based workarounds. Using direct observation with opportunistic interviewing, we investigated the use of paper-and computer-based workarounds to the EHR with a multi-site study of 54 healthcare workers, including primary care providers, nurses, and other healthcare staff. Our analysis revealed several paper-and computer-based workarounds to the VA's EHR. These workarounds, including clinician-designed information tools, provide evidence for how to enhance the design of the EHR to better support the needs of clinicians.

Abstract-We report a novel system for highly stable 100 MHz mode locked pulse as a reference frequency signal transfer through a round trip 20 km urban fiber link. An electronic approach for compensating the fluctuations introduced by the link is proposed and implemented. The rms phase fluctuation was reduced from 75 mrad (118ps) to 4 mrad (6.3ps) in 48 hours, and the frequency stability was improved by three orders of magnitude in the measurement time. ©2010 IEEE.

Although biometrics technology has progressed substantially, its performance is still to be improved for real applications. This paper aims to improve the accuracy of personal identification, when only single sample is registered as template, by integrating multiple hand-based biometrics, i.e. palmprint and finger-knuckle-print. To make fusion much easier, the same feature, so called fusion code, and decision level fusion strategy are used. Experimental results show that much better performance than single modal biometrics has been achieved. © 2010 IEEE.

Speech recorded in real environments by distant microphones is degraded by factor like reverberation. This degradation strongly affects the performance of the speaker identification system. Three compensation approaches are investigated to improve the robustness of speaker identification in such scenarios. The first approach applies spectral subtraction before feature extraction in order to reduce the late reverberation effect. The second approach makes use of feature warping as robust features of distant speaker identification under mismatched training-testing conditions. The third approach presents a novel GMM parameters initialization method: combination division and k-means clustering. The experiment results show that the compensated system as compared with baseline system, the channel average identification rate has an increase of 11.4%, 15.4%, 17%, 17.8% on TIMIT database and 6.82%, 6.36%, 9.34%, 14% on JNAS database. ©2010 IEEE.

To ensure the software quality of mobile device, it is essential to build sophisticated testing automation strategy. In this paper, we introduced the idea of constructing a testing framework, elaborated the problems encountered in practice and proposed the solutions accordingly, where several innovative testing methods and tactics were brought forward and discussed in details. Furthermore, the testing framework was used for testing a tailor-made program on mobile phone. Testing result analysis proves that the framework is not only viable and effective on mobile device testing, but also shows that the testing efficiency needs to be improved. Copyright © 2010 ACM.

Field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are widely used in building systems-on-Programmable-Chips (SOPCs) since they contain plenty of reconfigurable heterogeneous resources providing the facility to implement various intellectual property cores. However, with the shrinking device feature size and the increasing die area, nowadays FPGAs can be deeply affected by the errors induced by electromigration and radiation, which results in challenges of building reliable SOPCs. In this paper, a SOPC implementing a smart 1553B bus node is presented to investigate the challenges and illustrate a feasible approach for building a complex system aimed at high reliability and low recovery latency on a commercial FPGA. First, a general reliability model, the Domain-Partition (DP) model, is introduced to formulate the SOPCs which contain multiple alternative configurations proving the fault recovery capability. The assignment of the alternative configurations for maximizing the reliability is then determined according to a first-order optimal solution under the DP framework. Finally, the blind reconfiguration technique is used to reduce the recovery latency. The experiments based on a Monte Carlo simulation approach are carried out to evaluate the reliability and the latency. The obtained results show that higher reliability is attainable with less overhead than the generic triple-modular redundancy method. © 2010 IEEE.
