A consensus feature-ranking approach has been applied to the study of localization-related temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in order to evaluate the relative discriminative power of individual attributes. Cases were selected on the basis of a postoperative outcome free of disabling seizures (i.e., Engel class I) in order to establish a definitive laterality of focal epileptogenicity. Several quantitative measures made available by imaging and electrographic studies are considered and the most discriminative of these are quantitatively prioritized for the lateralization of focal epileptogenicity. Cases requiring extraoperative electrocorticography were examined as a subgroup to establish whether the current method of analysis could distinguish laterality sufficiently well to avoid the requirement for intracranial electrode implantation.

Traffic congestion is the cause of pollution and economic loss. The Real time traffic state report can alleviate this problem by assisting drivers for route planning and choosing unblocked roads. More traffic information could lead to more accurate route planning and greater awareness of traffic situations and road conditions for drivers. However, investment into sensor infrastructure for small minor roads is rarely available. In this paper, we present a cost efficient approach to compute real time traffic congestion degrees for non-sensor infrastructure roads, such as small minor roads, based on context fusion and context reasoning method. Our framework intends to utilize real time acquirable context instead of relying on traffic sensory data which made our approach suitable for insufficient sensor infrastructure environment. The evaluation throughout several experimentations conducted in Bangkok has proven the feasibility of our approach. Besides, the experimental result indicated that the methodology of our experiment can be used as an alternative cost efficient tool for infrastructure investment decision making. ©2010 IEEE.

Development of a feature ranking method based upon the discriminative power of features and unbiased towards classifiers is of interest. We have studied a consensus feature ranking method, based on multiple classifiers, and have shown its superiority to well known statistical ranking methods. In a target environment such as a medical dataset, missing values and an unbalanced distribution of data must be taken into consideration in the ranking and evaluation phases in order to legitimately apply a feature ranking method. In a comparison study, a Performance Index (PI) is proposed that takes into account both the number of features and the number of samples involved in the classification.

This paper presents a novel way of building the user profile of concept network for personalized search. The user profile is defined as a concept network, in which each concept is approximately represented with the formal concept analysis (FCA) theory. We assume that a concept, called `session interest concept', subsume a user's query intention during a query session and it can reflect the user's preference. Whenever a user issues his/her query, a session interest concept is generated. Then, new concepts are merged into the current concept network (i.e., a user profile) in which recent user preferences are accumulated. According to FCA, a session interest concept is defined as a pair of extent and intent where the extent covers a set of documents selected by the user among the search results and the intent covers a set of keyword features extracted from the selected documents. And, in order to make a concept network grow, we need to calculate the similarity between a new concept and existing concepts, and to this end, we use a reference concept hierarchy called Open Directory Project. The user profile of concept network is eventually used to expand a user's initial query. The empirical results show that our approach improves the accuracy of search results in terms of personal preference.

In this paper, we provide a generalized file replication scheme with a storage load balancing function in unstructured P2P file-sharing networks. The generalized file replication scheme is expressed as a weighted mixture of the concepts introduced in existing schemes. A mathematical analysis shows that the system behavior realized by the generalized file replication scheme can be described by a thermal diffusion equation composed of heat, reaction and diffusion terms, the weights of which are controlled by a parameter of the mixing rate. Here, the heat term represents a function to enhance file search performance by making replicas on specific peers. The reaction term represents a function to avoid concentrations of storage loads on specific peers. The diffusion term represents a function to uniform the storage loads among peers. The simulation results show that the generalized file replication scheme enables us to control the trade-off between search and storage load balancing performances extensively and intuitively by controlling the parameter of the mixing rate. In addition, the simulation results show that the generalized file replication scheme can adapt to dynamic P2P file-sharing environments.

Website Personalization is one of strategic technique in delivering services in online applications. A part of process for building personalization applications is to collect particular information from the user which involves information sharing. However, the awareness about privacy concerns and security threats have caused to non-sharing behavior among the Internet Users. This situation have caused website personalization cannot be built to serve its purposes. This paper aims to investigate the people's behavior and to study the propensity of information sharing attitude in two different environments and cultures. The two environments are between real-life and online while the two cultures are between Malaysian and non-Malaysian. Since this is an exploratory study, interview with five (5) persons have been conducted. The qualitative technique that chooses was recommended for any exploratory study. The findings of this study explained the understanding of behaviors and the factors of Information Sharing. The factors are the cultural factors, the platform of sharing and the behavior of information sharing in web personalization. The sharing behavior in two environments and cultures were also compared. The data collected from the interviews have generalizing the speculations and issues in information sharing which have been discussed at the end section of this paper.

Air conditioning is responsible for around 60% of energy use in commercial buildings and is rapidly increasing in the residential sector. Although each system is individually small, the proliferation of air conditioning and the correlation of energy use with temperature is driving peak demand and the need for electricity distribution network upgrades. Energy retailers are now looking for ways to reduce this aggregate peak demand, leading to a tradeoff between peak demand, energy cost and the thermal comfort of building occupants. This paper presents a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) to quantify trade-offs amongst these three competing goals. We study a scenario with 8 air conditioners (ACs) and compare our findings against the case of having all ACs working independently, irrespective of global goals. The results show that, with statistically significant certainty, any run of the MOEA outperforms any scenario where the ACs function independently to keep a given level of comfort on a typical hot day.

At-speed scan testing for intra-clock and inter-clock transition delay faults in a SOC design with multiple clock domains is an important and challenging issue. Current practice in industry usually applies a test scheme targeted on intra-clock transition fault delay testing (i.e., intra testing). In this paper a test scheme targeting both intra-clock and inter-clock domains for transition delay fault testing (i.e., intra-inter testing) is applied. This paper presents an empirical study by comparing between intra testing and intra-inter testing in terms of fault classification, test detection, test coverage, test volume, and test power by using industrial circuits. The information provided by this paper is beneficial to both practitioners and researchers in their pursuit of improving the quality of transition delay testing, which is critical to the quality of deep-sub micron VLSI chips.

With the spread use of the computers, a new crime space and method are presented for criminals. Thus computer evidence plays a key part in criminal cases. Traditional computer evidence searches require that the computer specialists know what is stored in the given computer. Binary-based information flow tracking which concerns the changes of control flow is an effective way to analyze the behavior of a program. The existing systems ignore the modifications of the data flow, which may be also a malicious behavior. Thus the function recognition is introduced to improve the information flow tracking. Function recognition is a helpful technique recognizing the function body from the software binary to analyze the binary code. And that no false positive and no false negative in our experiments strongly proves that our approach is effective.
