Packet classification has been widely used in network security protection. A number of the major techniques for network security protection, such as virtual private networks (VPN), firewalls, and network intrusion detection systems (NIDS), are all dependent on the speed and ability of packet classification. The complexity of multi-dimensional packet classification will result in large scale rule-sets, which makes it prohibitive for software implementation. Algorithms based on ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) can solve this problem but cause entries expansion during the range matching. Our paper introduces a new region encoding mechanism of range mapping which can eliminate the expansion. By adding a new regional code, which is used to encode the ranges spanning two regions or more, the improved mechanism is able to express all the ranges by only one entry. Simulation and characteristics analysis of real rule-sets verify this encoding mechanism's feasibility and efficiency in actual applications.

Fuzzy time series forecasting model is an effective method to solve the nonlinear problems forecasting. However, most published fuzzy time series based models did not count the change trend implicit in historical datum. In this paper, authors proposed a novel method which applied heuristic information to the fuzzy time series model based on Fibonacci sequence. As an example, the USD/JPY exchange rate is tested in this model. The results show that this method not only improves the forecasting accuracy, but decreases the computational complexity.

Maintaining connectivity is a key responsibility of any routing system, but successfully carrying it out can be challenging, especially for inter-domain paths. Many measurements indicate the links failures are fairly common in the Internet. During the period of failures, some destination would be unreachable and the corresponding services unavailable. Shrinking the convergence time window to improve connectivity of destination may cause routing instability when the majority of failures are transient. To improve failure resiliency without jeopardizing routing stability, we propose a fast reroute approach, called PT, which works by pre-established protected tunnel to react quickly to multi-providers network link failures so as to perform non-stop routing. Through simulation we demonstrate that PT is more resilient to multi-providers network link failures and the scale of exchanged messages is acceptable.

Lightpath reconfiguration management system has been designed and implemented for IP-over-CWDM networks with ROADMs. The system can search possible lightpaths made by ROADMs with specified switch states. The function is based on an equivalent graph method proposed for representing the ROADMs, and can output lightpaths in the network together with the total loss values. The system enables the network administrators to manage the lightpath reconfigurations effectively without errors by avoiding making unlinked lightpaths through routes with higher losses to connect nodes, before the reconfiguration.

This paper presents the particle swarm optimization (PSO) for reactive power and voltage control (Volt/Var Control) in distribution system considering DFIG wind farm. In this paper, the reactive power output of DFIG wind farm has been considered as the control variables in the Volt/Var Control scheme by considering the reactive power compensation capability of DFIG. The minimization of total system real power loss and voltage deviation are utilized as an objective and the PSO is used to determine the reactive power output of DFIG wind farm, tap positions of load tap changer transformers (LTC) and numbers of the capacitor banks. Finally, the proposed scheme is applied to the 33-node distribution system. The results indicate that the proposed Volt/Var control scheme can improve the voltage profiles of distribution networks on a large scale.

The rapid growth and development of wireless communication and networking technologies coupled with far more powerful and energy efficient mobile computing systems enable more intelligent behaviours such as user-centric and self-reflection to be used so that mobile user applications can leverage dynamic context information to provide customized services. In this research, an architectural model for the deployment of intelligent context-aware service adaptation process is introduced. A mobile spatial routing application is exploited to demonstrate the improved flexibility and robustness of the new system model.
