Complex problem solving requires diverse expertise and multiple techniques. In order to solve such problems, complex multi-agent systems that include both of human experts and autonomous agents are required in many application domains. Most complex multi-agent systems work in open domains and include various heterogeneous agents. Due to the heterogeneity of agents and dynamic features of working environments, expertise and capabilities of agents might not be well estimated and presented in these systems. Therefore, how to discover useful knowledge from human and autonomous experts, make more accurate estimation for experts' capabilities and find out suitable expert(s) to solve incoming problems ("Expert Mining") are important research issues in the area of multi-agent system. In this paper, we introduce an ontology-based approach for knowledge and expert mining in hybrid multi-agent systems. In this research, ontologies are hired to describe knowledge of the system. Knowledge and expert mining processes are executed as the system handles incoming problems. In this approach, we embed more self-learning and self-adjusting abilities in multi-agent systems, so as to help in discovering knowledge of heterogeneous experts of multi-agent systems.

In this paper, we presented a method to improve structural modeling based on conserved domain clusters and structure-anchored alignments. We first constructed a template library of structural clusters for all conserved sequence domains. Then, for each cluster, we built the profile using the structure and sequence information. Finally we use the profile and structural alignments as anchors to increase the alignment accuracy between a query and its templates. Our preliminary results show that this method can be used for the partial prediction for a majority of known protein sequences with better qualities. Copyright 2007 ACM.

Students and teaching staff in higher education are constantly looking for new tools to help them study and teach more efficiently. The University of Canterbury began Project Podcast to introduce podcasting to a number of subjects as an add-on to the current course curriculum. Podcasting is being used to enhance mobile learning and enthuse both students and lecturers. Previous podcasting evaluations show that there exists a need for both audio content from lectures, or so called "LectureCasts" as well as supplementary material or "Sup!Casts". In this study, we will be evaluating ProjectPodcast. The evaluation is aimed at both the student population as well as the lecturing staff in order to gain knowledge about their impressions of podcasting. Prior podcasting surveys have received low response rates, due to the choice of time, location and medium. Hence, our evaluation plan has been created with the goal of encouraging feedback from students and lecturers. In this paper we present our preparatory plan for evaluating ProjectPodcast.

This paper proposed a new method of making mold with complicate cooling structure, and the cooling structure is optimized by genetic algorithm under unsteady state heat transfer. Since the current rate control schemes in H.264 do not present the capability of efficient GOP-level bit allocation, the video quality varies greatly for sequences with the scene change or the scene complexity varying from one GOP to another. To overcome the limitation, we propose a novel rate control scheme based on incremental PID algorithm. The incremental PID algorithm is introduced to minimize video quality variations in GOP-level bit allocation. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed rate control scheme, without expensive computational complexity added, decreases the average video quality variations by 15.07%.

Because of text's properties, it's so difficult to find perfect algorithms of embedding watermark into text documents, when compared with other media. Nowadays, text watermarking technologies is far behind other multimedia watermarking technologies such as images, audios, etc. A novel text digital watermarking technology based on graph theory is presented in this paper. Through changing its topology structures of a character or string, different figures are schemed out, which represent the same semanteme. Then those figures are mapped on graphs of graph theory, and the graphs or their properties should be correctly encoded in order to denote different watermarking information. The mathematic models of embedding and detecting watermarking are also described, and the experimental methods of robustness and visual influence, as well as the relative results are given. Finally, general rules of removing attack on text watermarking system is proposed, and the attack-resisting capability and methods of this text digital watermarking is analyzed in detail. According to the experimentation and analysis, the text watermarking technology has the following advantages: great capacity of watermarking, strong robustness, little visual influence and quite good attack-resisting capability. With this technology, it is more convenient to embed watermark into characters for ideograph languages such as Chinese and Korean, while it is suitable for embedding watermark into strings for alphabetic languages such as English and French.
