Single-carrier frequency domain contention (S-FDC) is an efficient wireless contention mechanism based on orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM). In each round of S-FDC, each node randomly selects and signals on one of the OFDM subcarriers while listening to all subcarriers simultaneously. Each node independently detects the activated subcarrier with the smallest index and regards it as the winner subcarrier. Accurately detecting the winner subcarrier is crucial to ensuring the functionality of the network. However, it is extremely difficult in practice due to power leakage problems that arise from frequency asynchronization among nodes. In this paper, we propose a gated-recurrent-unit (GRU)-based model that incorporates S-FDC’s unique features as domain knowledge to enable accurate winner subcarrier detection. Extensive simulation experiments verify that our DL model is effective and outperforms state of the art. This research highlights the potential of DL in improving wireless communication systems. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Machine learning algorithms face important implementation difficulties due to imbalanced learning since the Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) helps improve performance through the creation of new minority class examples in feature space before preprocessing. The underlying problem leading to performance deterioration emerges from noise and boundary instances found in the minority class rather than an excessive imbalance ratio. Noise and marginal samples become problematic during oversampling operations since they reduce the performance of classification models. This paper proposes an advanced version of Borderline-SMOTE (BL-SMOTE), called ABL-SMOT approach that utilizes INFFC for noise filtering to optimize data quality in the dataset. This improvement method for minority class sample placement and noise filtering ensures higher classifier performance through ABL-SMOTE. The proposed technique receives assessment through the usage of software defect datasets along with multiple testing classifiers against conventional data sampling procedures. The experimental outcomes show that ABL-SMOTE performs better than alternative approaches in most tested datasets because it is an effective preprocessing tool for imbalanced classification problems. © 2013 IEEE.

The HVAC system, energy storage building, distributed power supply, and other equipment are integrated into the scheduling algorithm, which is aimed at reducing household electricity consumption. It is also assumed that users can provide energy to the grid according to their own conditions. Taking electricity cost and comfort level as optimization targets, a home energy optimization control model for the coordinated management of hybrid energy sources is built. A smart scheduling mechanism based on the improved adaptive particle swarm optimization approach is proposed in order to derive the best time intervals for electric appliances, necessary power for the control of the room temperature for every time frame, and power for charging and discharging of the storage battery at various moments. Simulation results show that through the incorporation of distributed photovoltaic power generation, backup storage by battery, and home energy optimization control, the system efficiently balances between user comfort and electricity consumption. This offers great technical support to the development of home energy management systems. By using time-of-use electricity price for energy acquisition and supply, the optimization control goal is minimizing both power use and cost as well as preserving comfort levels. The hybrid energy management's proposed home energy optimization control model uses an adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm to find the optimal operation schedules of the electrical appliances, the required power for temperature control in a room, and the charge/discharge power level of the storage battery at each time interval. As per the optimization principle, the proposed dynamic programming algorithm converts the multi-stage problem into a sequence of single-stage problems and solves them separately. Intention adoption represents a migration from an imperative to a declarative paradigm, which is expected to significantly improve the user experience in blockchain. While the development of account abstraction has expanded the range of possibilities for intent expression, the architecture for intent-centric collaboration and coordination remains underdeveloped. Existing works depend on trusted centralized entities and employ broadcasts to the network to disseminate user intent, risking single points of failure and privacy leakage. In addition, no standard intent architecture has been proposed. In this paper, we propose a novel decentralized privacy-preserving optimizer architecture for executing intents on the EVM blockchain. We first propose standard intent structures and zero-knowledge intent structures. Our architecture allows users to transform raw intent structures into zero-knowledge intent structures and send them to a set of trusted optimizers. The optimizers can optimize and execute the intents without revealing the content of the intents. We use zero-knowledge proof and public-key encryption to ensure the privacy and correctness of the intents, and smart contracts to ensure the security and verifiability of the execution. We also design a quantization function to evaluate and compare solutions from different optimizers. We analyze the security and performance of our architecture and show that it can achieve privacy, efficiency, and scalability of intent execution on the EVM blockchain. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). The burgeoning complexity of communication necessitates a high demand for security. Access control encryption is a promising primitive to meet the security demand but the bulk of its constructions rely on formulating the access control policy with identities. Attribute-based access control policy in attribute-based encryption (ABE) is known to be more expressive without relying on enumerating identities. We propose a generic framework to build attribute-based access control encryption from ciphertext-policy ABE. Our instantiations prioritize different emphases on expressiveness and efficiency. The first instantiation supports multi-valued AND-gate access control structures, while the second supports the linear-secret-sharing access structure. Both are prototyped with efficiency validated empirically. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to the exposure of transmitted messages in public channels within Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET), many authentication schemes have been proposed to safeguard security and privacy. And in existing schemes, to expedite the authentication process for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication, vehicles requesting authentication information from Certification Authority (CA) regarding the RSUs they are expected to encounter before the journey is recommended. However, the viability of the aforementioned schemes rely on two challenging prerequisites: complete trustworthiness of CA and the assurance that the Onboard Units (OBUs), which store secret keys permanently, remain impervious to physical attacks and cloning attempts. Hence in this paper, we propose a route privacy-preserving authentication scheme based on PUF in VANETs. Basing on Oblivious Transfer (OT) method, we let CA complete authentication keys distribution without knowing the route plan of a vehicle. We utilize Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) to minimize the exposure of private key. And as the output of a PUF is easily affected by objective factors, Fuzzy Extractor (FE) is used in our scheme to correct the challenge-response pair of it. In addition, the detailed security analysis proves that our scheme can meet the security requirements. Finally, the experimental analysis suggests that our scheme is lower than the other schemes in terms of time complexity. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2025.

Distributed deep neural network training necessitates efficient GPU collective communications, which are inherently susceptible to deadlocks. GPU collective deadlocks arise easily in distributed deep learning applications when multiple collectives circularly wait for each other. GPU collective deadlocks pose a significant challenge to the correct functioning and efficiency of distributed deep learning, and no general effective solutions are currently available. Only in specific scenarios, ad-hoc methods, making an application invoke collectives in a consistent order across GPUs, can be used to prevent circular collective dependency and deadlocks. This paper presents DFCCL, a novel GPU collective communication library that provides a comprehensive approach for GPU collective deadlock prevention while maintaining high performance. DFCCL achieves preemption for GPU collectives at the bottom library level, effectively preventing deadlocks even if applications cause circular collective dependency. DFCCL ensures high performance with its execution and scheduling methods for collectives. Experiments show that DFCCL effectively prevents GPU collective deadlocks in various situations. Moreover, extensive evaluations demonstrate that DFCCL delivers performance comparable to or superior to NCCL, the state-of-the-art collective communication library highly optimized for NVIDIA GPUs. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Wireless Sensing in Artificial Intelligence of Things: A General Quantum Machine Learning Framework

With the emergence of the 5G and beyond, wireless networks have transformed from a simple communication medium to ubiquitous versatile platforms. This trend has enabled numerous device-free and non-contact applications. As computing power and machine learning algorithms continue to improve, deep learning techniques are increasingly used in wireless sensing applications. However, the limits of deep learning-centered wireless sensing approaches are still being explored. Concurrently, research in quantum computing is advancing rapidly, prompting researchers to explore the burgeoning field of quantum machine learning, which combines quantum computing and machine learning, for its boundless potential. In this article, we propose a general quantum machine learning framework for wireless sensing applications in the Artificial Internet of Things (AIoT). The proposed framework provides a systematic approach for designing deeply interpreted wireless sensing models based on quantum machine learning. We then present several representative applications and case studies, and conclude this article with a discussion of the challenges and future research directions in this exciting area. © 2025 IEEE.

Cross-Modal Knowledge Diffusion-Based Generation for Difference-Aware Medical VQA

Multimodal medical applications have garnered considerable attention due to their potential to offer comprehensive and robust support for medical assistance. Specifically, within this domain, difference-aware medical Visual Question Answering (VQA) has emerged as a topic of increasing interest that enables the recognition of changes in physical conditions over time when compared to previous states and provides customized suggestions accordingly. However, it is challenging because samples usually exhibit characteristics of complexity, diversity, and inherent noise. Besides, there is a need for multimodal knowledge understanding of the medical domain. The difference-aware setting requiring image comparison further intensifies these situations. To this end, we propose a cross-Modal knowlEdge diffusioN-baseD gEneration netwoRk (MENDER), where the diffusion mechanism with multi-step denoising and knowledge injection from global to local level are employed to tackle the aforementioned challenges, respectively. The diffusion process is to gradually generate answers with the sequence input of questions, random noises for the answer masks and virtual vision prompts of images. The strategy of answer nosing and knowledge cascading is specifically tailored for this task and is implemented during forward and reverse diffusion processes. Moreover, the visual and structure knowledge injection are proposed to learn virtual vision prompts to guide the diffusion process, where the former is realized using a pre-trained medical image-text network and the latter is modeled with spatial and semantic graph structures processed by the heterogeneous graph Transformer models. Experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness of MENDER for difference-aware medical VQA. Furthermore, it also exhibits notable performance in the low-resource setting and conventional medical VQA tasks. © 1992-2012 IEEE.
