Algorithms for online fault tolerance server consolidation

We study a novel replication mechanism to ensure service continuity against multiple simultaneous server failures. In this mechanism, each item represents a computing task and is replicated into ξ + 1 servers for some integer ξ ≥ 1, with workloads specified by the amount of required resources. If one or more servers fail, the affected workloads can be redirected to other servers that host replicas associated with the same item, such that the service is not interrupted by the failure of up to ξ servers. This requires that any feasible assignment algorithm must reserve some capacity in each server to accommodate the workload redirected from potential failed servers without overloading, and determining the optimal method for reserving capacity becomes a key issue. Unlike existing algorithms that assume that no two servers share replicas of more than one item, we first formulate capacity reservation for a general arbitrary scenario. Due to the combinatorial nature of this problem, finding the optimal solution is difficult. To this end, we propose a Generalized and Simple Calculating Reserved Capacity(GSCRC) algorithm, with a time complexity only related to the number of items packed in the server. In conjunction with GSCRC, we propose a robust replica packing algorithm with capacity optimization(RobustPack), which aims to minimize the number of servers hosting replicas and tolerate multiple server failures. Through theoretical analysis and experimental evaluations, we show that the RobustPack algorithm can achieve better performance.

Ambient-Pressure Anisotropic Single-Gap Superconductivity in La-Trapped B_(26)Cages with Superior Hardness

Recently,a breakthrough in the high-pressure synthesis of sp^(3)-bonded clathrate-like R-3m-L_(a)B_(8)featuring Latrapped B_(26)cages was *** the superconducting critical temperature(T_(c))and Vickers hardness(H_(v))of L_(a)B_(8)were estimated,the anisotropic superconductivity and superconducting gap nature remain *** stability of pure B_(26)cages under ambient conditions is of interest for exploring the B_(26)hardness and the role of La atoms in the L_(a)B_(8)*** resolving the Allen–Dynes modified Mc Millan equation and the anisotropic Eliashberg equations,it was found that L_(a)B_(8)exhibits anisotropic single-gap superconductivity with T_(c)=19.0~26.5 K,and the superconducting gap anisotropic ratio reaches 48.50%at 5 *** significantly,our work fundamentally validated the coupling of B-2p orbitals with the optical double-degenerate E_(g)phonon modes and A_(g)phonon mode from a novel *** H_(v)of B_(26)cages was determined to be 18.6 GPa,which is lower than that of La-trapped B_(26)cages(i.e.,L_(a)B_(8)),indicating that La acts as a hardness enhancer for L_(a)B_(8).

Researches on plasma-facing materials/components(PFMs/PFCs)have become a focus in magnetic confinement fusion studies,particularly for advanced tokamak operation ***,spacecraft surface materials must maintain stable performance under relatively high temperatures and other harsh plasma conditions,making studies of their thermal and ablation resistance ***,a low-cost,low-energy-storage for superconducting magnets,and compact linear device,HIT-PSI,has been designed and constructed at harbin institute of technology(HIT)to investigate the interaction between stable high heat flux plasma and PFMs/PFCs in scrape-off-layer(SOL)and divertor regions,as well as spacecraft surface *** parameters of the argon plasma beam of HIT-PSI are diagnosed using a water-cooled planar Langmuir probe and emission *** magnetic field rises to 2 T,the argon plasma beam generated by a cascaded arc source achieves high density exceeding 1.2×10^(21)m^(-3)at a distance of 25 cm from the source with electron temperature surpassing 4 eV,where the particle flux reaches 10^(24)m^(-2)s^(-1),and the heat flux loaded on the graphite target measured by infrared camera reaches 4 MW/m^(2).Combined with probe and emission spectroscopy data,the transport characteristics of the argon plasma beam are analyzed.

LucIE: Language-guided local image editing for fashion images

Fiber-tip optic sensor based on a three-beam interferometer for simultaneous measurement of flow rate and temperature

Precise monitoring of the microfluidic flow rate is a key factor in microfluidic chips. However, the temperature of the microfluidics often affects the measuring results of the optical flow rate sensor. Here, we present a fiber-tip optical sensor based on a three-beam interferometer that can measure microfluidic flow rate and temperature simultaneously. The optical fiber sensor is composed of UV adhesive at the bottom of the microcavity sealed by liquid paraffin, and a section of air is reserved in the hollow core fiber (HCF). The flow of microfluidics will affect the pressure of the air cavity formed by UV adhesive and the paraffin. Microfluidics with different flow rates in the channel of the microfluidic chip have different effects on the position of the liquid paraffin in the cavity. Because of the small viscous force between the paraffin and the inner wall of the HCF, the length of the air cavity changed greatly as the flow rate changed resulting in a high flow rate sensitivity. The UV adhesive as a temperature measuring part has a high thermo-optical coefficient (TOC), as a temperature measuring part, utilized to measure the temperature of the microfluidics. The length variation of air cavity and refractive index (RI) of UV adhesive will cause the shifting of the dips in the interference spectrum. The rate sensitivity can reach −22.51 nm/(mm/s) in the range of 0.17 mm/s to 1.17 mm/s. In addition, the sensor has a stable temperature sensitivity of 13.513 nm/℃. This work provides a low-cost sensing platform for measuring various physical parameters in microfluidic chips, which is of great significance for on-chip biochemical reactions. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Chlorite(ClO_(2)^(−)or COI)is used to establish the advanced reduction and oxidation process(AROP).The iron/biochar-based particles(iron-based hydrothermal carbon with hinge-like structure,FebHCs,20 mg/L)can be utilized to activate COI(2 mmol/L)to present selective oxidation in removing triphenylmethane derivatives(15 min,90%).The protonation(H+at~102μmol/L level)played a huge role(k-2nd=0.136c-H+−0.014(R^(2)-adj=0.986),and rapp=−0.0876/c-H++1.017(R^(2)-adj=0.996))to boost the generation of the active species(e.g.,high-valent iron oxidizing species(HVI=O)and chlorine dioxide(ClO_(2))).The protonation-coupled electron transfer promoted Fe-substances in Feb/HCs activating COI(the calculated kobs ranging from 0.066−0.285 min^(−1)).The form of ClO_(2) mainly attributed to proton-coupled electron transfer(1e/1H+).The HVI=O was generated from the electron transfer within the coordination ***,carbon particles in FebHCs serve as the bridge for electron *** above roles contribute to the fracture and formation of coordination-induced bonds between Lx-FeII/III and ClO_(2)^(−)at phase interface to form *** ultrasonic(US)cavitation enhanced the mass transfer of active species in bulk solution,and the HVI=O and ClO_(2) attack unsaturated central carbon atoms of triphenylmethane derivatives to initiate selective ***,the scale-up experiment with continuous flow(k values of approximately 0.2 min^(−1),COD removal efficiency of approximately 80%)and the reactor with COMSOL simulation have also proved the applicability of the *** study offers a novel AROP and new insights into correspondingly heterogeneous interface activation mechanisms.

With the continuous evolution of cloud computing technology, the memory requirements of cloud servers are increasing. Insufficient memory has become the performance bottleneck of many applications. Memory disaggregation has been proposed to solve this problem, which enables computing nodes to utilize the memory of remote memory nodes, thus not only effectively extending the capacity of logical memory, but also significantly improving the resource utilization and elasticity of the whole cluster, providing a more flexible resource allocation scheme for large-scale parallel computing and data processing. However, most of the existing memory disaggregation systems require modification of hardware, operating systems or applications, which are difficult to use. This paper proposes a high-performance memory disaggregation system SwiftSwap, which can directly access remote memory without any modification of hardware, operating system, or application. We design and implement a high performance cache, cache lookup algorithm LDA and cache elimination strategy RM_AwareLRU on the computing node to improve the performance of the system. Through comprehensive evaluation, SwiftSwap has up to 5.1× performance advantage in throughput, 4.8× performance advantage in tail delay, and 6.4× performance advantage against applications running in containers. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2025.

Optoelectronic-Coupled-Driven Microrobot for Biological Cargo Transport in Conductive Isosmotic Glucose Solution

Electric field-driven micro/nanorobots, as micro/nanodevices with autonomous motion capability, have emerged as promising candidates for targeted cargo delivery in biomedical applications due to their advantages of label-free operation, selectivity, and controllability. In biological systems, many biological cargos need to be operated in conductive isosmotic solutions to ensure their viability. However, in the conductive solution, electric field-driven micro/nanorobots exhibit significantly reduced propulsion performance, despite retaining the capability to manipulate cargos by the dielectrophoretic force. This limitation restricts the wider applicability of electric field-driven micro/nanorobots in biomedical fields. This paper presents a novel optoelectronic-coupled-driven α-Fe2O3@aTiO2/Au microrobot, which exhibits significantly improved mobility and enables biological cargo transportation in the conductive isosmotic glucose solution. Benefiting from the flowerlike surface structure and composite photocatalytic material, the proposed microrobot exhibits enhanced photocatalytic capability, enabling efficient propulsion in glucose solution under light irradiation. In addition, the motion behavior of the microrobot under light, electric, and optoelectronic-coupled fields is investigated. It is found that the speed of the microrobot could exceed 300 μm/s under coupled fields, which is more than ten times faster than that of previously reported electric field-driven micro/nanorobots. Due to the magnetic property, the proposed microrobot can be precisely navigated under the guidance of an external uniform magnetic field. Furthermore, the proposed microrobot can achieve the transportation of various biological cargos in a conductive isosmotic glucose solution. The proposed microrobot opens a new avenue for targeted delivery and holds great potential for applications in the biological and pharmaceutical fields. © 2025 American Chemical Society.
