Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter at 133Cs weak 459 nm transition

A 459 nm Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter（FADOF） working at the side wings of the cesium6S1∕2→ 7P1∕2transition with weak oscillator strength is achieved. The transmittance of the higher side wing reaches 98% at a temperature of 179°C and magnetic field above 323 G. The experimental results coincide with the theoretical predictions in 1982 and 1995, which were not realized in experiments for over three decades. Due to its high transmittance, high accuracy, and narrow linewidth, the 459 nm FADOF can be applied in underwater optical communications, the building of active optical clocks, and laser frequency stabilization in active optical clocks.

With the proliferation of the GPS-enabled devices and mobile techniques, there has been a lot of work on trajectory search in the last decade. Previous trajectory search has focused on spatio-temporal features and text descriptions. Different from them, we study a novel problem of searching trajectories with activities and corresponding ranking information. Given a query q, which is attached with a set of activities and a threshold of distance, the results of ranking based activity trajectory search (RTS) are k trajectories such that the given activities are performed with the highest ranking within the threshold of distance. In addition, we also extend the query with an order, i.e., order-sensitive ranking based activity trajectory search (ORTS), which takes both the order of activities in a query q and the order of trajectories into account. It is challenging to answer RTS and ORTS efficiently due to the structural complexity of trajectory data with ranking information. In this paper, a hybrid index AC-tree and its optimized variant RAC-tree are proposed to achieve higher efficiency. Extensive experiments verify the high efficiency and scalability of the proposed algorithms. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

The notion of data deduplication enables a user to eliminate duplicate copies of data so that it can save the amount of storage space and network bandwidth. Convergent encryption, as the state-of-art approach, has been widely adopted to perform secure deduplication in the cross-user scenario. However, all the existing solutions cannot support user traceability. That is, there is no way to trace the identities of malicious users for instance in case a user performed a duplicate faking attack. To cope with this issue, in this paper, we propose a novel secure deduplication scheme supporting user traceability by incorporating traceable signatures with the state of the art deduplication technique, such as interactive randomized convergent encryption and proof of ownership.

Su-Field analysis, as one of the inventive problem solving tools, can be used to analyse and improve the efficacy of the technical system. Generally, the process of using Su-Field model to solve a specific inventive problem includes: building a Problem Model, mapping to a Generic Problem Model, finding a Generic Solution Model based on the corresponding inventive standard, and finally establishing and instantiating a Solution Model. As one of the most important phases of Su-Field analysis, the last step is normally implemented manually with the help of physical effects, which link generic technical functions with specific applications and systems. The physical effects compatible with the context of the specific problem should be chosen to assist the users to instantiate the Solution Model. However, the physical effects and the specific problems are built at different levels of abstraction, and it is difficult for the users to choose, that is, given a certain function, too many physical effects are chosen while with the detailed context of the problem, no physical effect is returned. This paper firstly proposes a new way of representing physical effects using the change of two states, that is, the couple of two states before and after applying physical effects. Then, the knowledge about using physical effects is formalized in OWL (Ontology Web Language) - an ontology language for semantic web, and the constraint knowledge, such as the condition to use each kind of physical effect, is formalized in SWRL (Semantic Web Rule Language) - a rule language. Finally, the reasoning process of using physical effects is performed with the support of JESS (Java Expert System Shell) rule engine. © 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

In this paper, we present a two-hop-relay WCDMA cellular system with queueing capability, where a call can wait in the incoming buffer at the congested Base Transceiver Station (BTS) if no channel is immediately available, so as to reduce the call blocking rate. We develop an analytic model based on Multidimensional Markov chains. Then based on this model, we can obtain the average transmission rate and the queuing delay performance of the system respectively. Finally, through numerical calculation, we analyze the impact of the various parameters on the performance of the two-hop-relay WCDMA cellular system with queueing capability.

While TRIZ is increasingly developing both in research and education, users always encounter difficulties in their attempts to practice it, especially for one of the most complicated inventive problem solving tools, the Su-Field analysis, which is used to analyze and improve the efficiency of a technical system. Generally, the process of using a Su-Field model to solve a specific inventive problem includes: building a Problem Model, mapping it to a Generic Problem Model, finding a Generic Solution Model based on the corresponding inventive standard and finally establishing and interpreting a Solution Model in real life. As one of the most important phases of the Su-Field analysis, the last step is normally implemented manually with the help of the pointers to physical effects, which link generic technical functions to specific applications and systems. The adequate pointer, compatible with the context of the specific problem, should be chosen to assist the users to instantiate the Solution Model. However, the pointers to physical effects and the specific problems are built at different levels of abstraction, so it is difficult for the users to choose among many eligible pointers to physical effects given a certain function. This paper proposes a heuristic method to use the pointers to physical effects based on ontology reasoning. The use of formal models, called ontologies, allows to formally define the concepts about the models and the effects and to apply logical reasoning on them. An inventive standards ontology and a physical effects ontology are firstly built to describe the process of Su- Field analysis, and then the logical reasoning rules are established according to a lexical dictionary, the analysis of the inventive standards and the physical effects. The lexical dictionary, based on WordNet, is built to improve the selection of the appropriate effect to apply. Finally, ontology reasoning is implemented to provide heuristic physical effects for the users.

While TRIZ is increasingly developing both in research and education, new users always encounter difficulties in their first attempts to practice it. In such situation, Altshuller's original matrix often appears as an "easy-to-begin- with" tool. However, while not being representative of what TRIZ really is, it continues to seduce new users, teachers and trainers. Several approaches to automate the use of the contradiction matrix have been proposed in literature, and researches on the automatic match between specific parameters of the artefact being considered and Altshuller's generalized parameters remains a topic of interest. In this paper, we propose a way to automate the proposal of equivalencies between a specific parameter and a generic parameter from the matrix. This method calculates the semantic distance between short texts, and uses it to fill the semantic gap between the specific parameters of the artefact and the generalized ones. Case-based reasoning is also used to improve the whole accuracy of the method. © 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

3D Visualization of radar coverage considering electromagnetic interference

Radar plays an important role in many domains, such as target searching, target tracking and dynamic objects detection. However, the electromagnetic information of radar is invisible and full of changes in real time, which restricts users to plan and design the radar systems. In recent years, with the development of interactive visualization technology, 3D visualization of the abstract information of radar coverage under the influence of complicated environment becomes a hotspot. In this paper, we present a method to represent radar coverage considering the electromagnetic interference. Based on the radar equation, from the perspectives of pitch and azimuth angles to achieve 3D modeling of radar coverage through discrete subdivision, and the radar model possesses self-adaptability to different levels of detail. The 3D radar detection range under the influence of electromagnetic interference is analyzed and addressed based on radar jamming model. Experiments demonstrate that our method not only can efficiently complete the three-dimensional modeling of radar, but also visually show the true radar coverage under the influence of complex electromagnetic environment.

The scale of current networked system is becoming increasingly large, which exerts significant challenges to acquire the knowledge of the entire graph structure, and most global community detection methods often suffer from the computational inefficiency. Local community detection aims at finding a community structure starting from a seed vertex without global information. In this article, we propose a Local Community Extraction algorithm (LCE) to find the local community from a seed vertex. First, a local search model is carefully designed to determine candidate vertices to be preserved or discarded, which only relies on the local/incomplete knowledge rather than the global view of the network. Second, we expand LCE for the global non-overlapping community detection, in which the labels of detected local communities are seen as vertices’ attributive tags. Finally, we adopt the results of LCE to calculate a membership matrix, which can been used to detect the global overlapping community of a graph. Experimental results on four real-life networks demonstrate the advantage of LCE over the existing degree-based and similarity-based local community detection methods by either effectiveness or efficiency validity. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Multimodal medical image fusion technique plays an important role in clinical applications, such as pathologic diagnosis and surgical options. However, many traditional fusion methods cannot well preserve details of source images in the fused image. To address this problem, a detail-enhanced image fusion scheme based on non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) and gain control (i.e., NCGC) is developed in this paper, which can effectively combine the spectral information and the spatial features of source images. The proposed method applies power law transformation to tune coefficients of each decomposed subband, and adjusts the strength of subband signals by smooth gain control. Eventually, the fused image with more anatomical details and functional information is constructed by the inverse NSCT. Three pairs of medical images with different modalities and three fusion metrics are applied to validate the feasibility of this algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve superior performance in both visual perception and objective assessment. © 2015 SERSC.
