FDGLib: A Communication Library for Efficient Large-Scale Graph Processing in FPGA-Accelerated Data centers

With the rapid growth of real-world graphs,the size of which can easily exceed the on-chip(board)storage capacity of an accelerator,processing large-scale graphs on a single Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA)becomes *** multi-FPGA acceleration is of great necessity and *** cloud providers(e.g.,Amazon,Microsoft,and Baidu)now expose FPGAs to users in their data centers,providing opportunities to accelerate large-scale graph *** this paper,we present a communication library,called FDGLib,which can easily scale out any existing single FPGA-based graph accelerator to a distributed version in a data center,with minimal hardware engineering *** provides six APIs that can be easily used and integrated into any FPGA-based graph accelerator with only a few lines of code *** the torus-based FPGA interconnection in data centers,FDGLib also improves communication efficiency using simple yet effective torus-friendly graph partition and placement *** interface FDGLib into AccuGraph,a state-of-the-art graph *** results on a 32-node Microsoft Catapult-like data center show that the distributed AccuGraph can be 2.32x and 4.77x faster than a state-of-the-art distributed FPGA-based graph accelerator ForeGraph and a distributed CPU-based graph system Gemini,with better scalability.

Multivariate Time Series (MTS) forecasting has gained significant importance in diverse domains. Although Recurrent Neural Network (RNN)-based approaches have made notable advancements in MTS forecasting, they do not effectively tackle the challenges posed by noise and unordered data. Drawing inspiration from advancing the Transformer model, we introduce a transformer-based method called STFormer to address this predicament. The STFormer utilizes a two-stage Transformer to capture spatio-temporal relationships and tackle the issue of noise. Furthermore, the MTS incorporates adaptive spatio-temporal graph structures to tackle the issue of unordered data specifically. The Transformer incorporates graph embedding to combine spatial position information with long-term temporal connections. Experimental results based on typical finance and environment datasets demonstrate that STFormer surpasses alternative baseline forecasting models and achieves state-of-the-art results for single-step horizon and multistep horizon forecasting. © 2024 - IOS Press. Due to the proliferation of rumors in social networks, automatic rumor detection has evoked increasing attention in recent years. Despite great progress achieved by exploiting multimodal features, existing works suffer from false discrimination issues due to insufficient multimodal modeling, mainly from two aspects: 1) neglect of the dynamicity of social networks. 2) misaligned multimodal features. To alleviate the issues, we propose DGM, Dynamic Graph Modeling for rumor detection. Firstly, dynamic graph attention is devised to exploit message propagation’s structural and temporal features. Secondly, we propose a modality-shared adapter to learn better multimodal representation. Thirdly, well-aligned visual-textual features are introduced to achieve better multimodality alignment and fusion, together with cross-modal attention and alignment supervision. We conduct extensive experiments on two public datasets, demonstrating the effectiveness and superiority of DGM. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The rapid evolution of wireless communication technologies and the increasing demand for multi-functional systems have led to the emergence of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) as a key enabler for future 6G networks. Simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RISs) have recently garnered significant attention for their ability to enhance signal coverage and improve system efficiency. This paper investigates a STAR-RIS-assisted ISAC system designed to secure communication for multiple legitimate users (LUs) while safeguarding against multiple eavesdroppers (Eves). By jointly optimizing the base station (BS) transmit beamforming, STAR-RIS transmission and reflection coefficients, and receive filters, the proposed framework aims to maximize the long-term average secrecy rate for all LUs. Constraints are imposed to ensure minimum echo signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) for sensing and meet the achievable rate requirements of LUs. To address the inherent complexity of this non-convex problem, two deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms are proposed. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves significant improvements in secrecy rate compared to conventional RIS setups. This work provides a scalable and efficient approach for secure multi-user ISAC systems, making it highly relevant for future 6G networks, smart cities, and IoT applications. © 2025 The Authors.

While the multi-view 3D reconstruction task has made significant progress, existing methods simply fuse multi-view image features without effectively leveraging available auxiliary information, especially the viewpoint information for guiding and associating features of different views. To this end, we propose to enhance multi-view 3D reconstruction with the power of viewpoint information. Specifically, a simple-yet-effective viewpoint estimator is designed to learn and provide comprehensive viewpoint knowledge for locating and associating learned features from different views. Moreover, to improve the 3D reconstruction quality when 2D images of only very few viewpoints are available, we propose to learn the shape prior knowledge to provide sufficient shape information for compensating the limited 2D observations. Overall, we present VIPNet, benefiting from Viewpoint Information and Shape Prior learning for high-quality multi-view 3D reconstruction. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of the proposed VIPNet, which achieves state-of-the-art performance on challenging datasets and shows well generalization ability in real-world scenarios. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Time range query is essential to facilitate a wide range of blockchain applications such as data provenance in the supply chain. Existing blockchain systems adopt the storage-consuming tree-based index structure for better query performance, however, fail to efficiently work for most blockchain nodes with limited resources. In this paper, we propose Anole, a lightweight and verifiable time range query mechanism, to present the feasibility of building up a learned-based index to achieve high performance and low storage costs on blockchain systems. The key idea of Anole is to exploit the temporal characteristics of blockchain data distribution and design a tailored lightweight index to reduce storage costs. Moreover, it uses a digital signature to guarantee the correctness and completeness of query results by considering the learned index’s error bounds, and applies batch verification to further improve verification performance. Experimental results demonstrate that Anole improves the query performance by up to 10 × and reduces the storage overhead by 99.4 % compared with the state-of-the-art vChain+. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

With the rapid development of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, edge devices such as sensors, smartphones, and wearable devices have become increasingly prevalent. The massive amount of distributed data generated by these devices offers unprecedented opportunities for deep learning, especially in fields like computer vision and edge computing. However, this data often exists in isolated data silos, and due to its privacy-sensitive nature, it cannot be directly processed in a centralized manner. Additionally, the data heterogeneity and devices heterogeneity further exacer-bates the challenges in federated learning (FL). Moreover, with the implementation of data privacy protection regulations, user demand for privacy protection is growing significantly. Therefore, how to effectively utilize dispersed data for distributed collaborative learning while ensuring data privacy is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed in the field of FL. In response to these challenges, this work has conducted research on clustering and segmentation FL algorithms for heterogeneous resource-constrained devices. A lightweight homogeneous device clustering strategy has been designed, which incorporates a split learning (SL) mechanism to enhance the accuracy and training efficiency of FL models. This approach reduces the load on resource-constrained devices and improves privacy security. Consequently, this method can meet the dual requirements of privacy protection and computational efficiency in real-world scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

Memory disaggregation has attracted increasing attention in recent years because it is a cost-efficient approach to scale memory capacity for applications in a data center. However, the latency of remote memory access is a major concern in disaggregated memory systems. This paper presents VANDI, a virtual memory paging mechanism that allows applications to use remote memory pools transparently. VANDI enables effective data caching and prefetching mechanisms to address the problem of high access latency in disaggregated memory systems. VANDI exploits a low-complexity cache replacement strategy to optimize the asynchronous staging queue so that the remote write latency can be significantly reduced. VANDI can also prefetch data in multi-granularity from a remote memory pool in an adaptive manner, and thus further improves the hit rate of the local cache to reduce the read latency of remote memory. Our extensive experiments using micro-benchmarks show that VANDI can improve the performance of typical remote paging system–Infiniswap by up to 15 × –102 ×. VANDI can also improve the performance of state-of-the-art disaggregated memory system–Valet by 1.2 × –2.7 ×. For typical machine learning workloads, VANDI can achieve 20% to 80% performance improvement compared with the state-of-the-art Valet. © 2023, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Early diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) can inhibit the progression and improve femoral head preservation. The radiograph difference between early ONFH and healthy ones is not apparent to the naked eye. It is also hard to produce a large dataset to train the classification model. In this paper, we propose Asymmetric-Sensitive Transformer (AsT) to capture the uneven development of the bilateral femoral head to enable robust ONFH detection. Our ONFH detection is realized using the self-attention mechanism to femoral head regions while conferring sensitivity to the uneven development by the attention-shared transformer. The real-world experiment studies show that AsT achieves the best performance of AUC 0.9313 in the early diagnosis of ONFH and can find out misdiagnosis cases firmly.
