A search for dark matter in association with a Higgs boson decaying to two photons is presented. This study is based on data collected with the ATLAS detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess over the expected background is observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the visible cross section for beyond the Standard Model physics processes, and the production cross section times branching fraction of the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying into two photons in association with missing transverse momentum in three different benchmark models. Limits at 95% confidence level are also set on the observed signal in two-dimensional mass planes. Additionally, the results are interpreted in terms of 90% confidence-level limits on the dark-matter–nucleon scattering cross section, as a function of the dark-matter particle mass, for a spin-independent scenario.

A measurement of the production cross section for two isolated photons in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=8 TeV is presented. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb−1 recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurement considers photons with pseudorapidities satisfying |ηγ|<1.37 or 1.56<|ηγ|<2.37 and transverse energies of respectively ET,1γ>40 GeV and ET,2γ>30 GeV for the two leading photons ordered in transverse energy produced in the interaction. The background due to hadronic jets and electrons is subtracted using data-driven techniques. The fiducial cross sections are corrected for detector effects and measured differentially as a function of six kinematic observables. The measured cross section integrated within the fiducial volume is 16.8±0.8 pb. The data are compared to fixed-order QCD calculations at next-to-leading-order and next-to-next-to-leading-order accuracy as well as next-to-leading-order computations including resummation of initial-state gluon radiation at next-to-next-to-leading logarithm or matched to a parton shower, with relative uncertainties varying from 5% to 20%.

The computation of k-lower envelope is a classical problem and has been very well studied for main memory non-indexed data. In this paper, we study the problem from the database perspective and present the first algorithm which utilizes the presence of the index and achieves access optimality, i.e., it accesses a node of the index only if the correctness of the results cannot be guaranteed without accessing this node. We also demonstrate the applications of k-lower envelope in ranking systems. Let an object be called valuable if it is one of the top-k objects according to at least one linear scoring function. In this paper, we answer the following important questions that may be asked by different users: 1) I am not sure what scoring function I should use, therefore, return me the set of valuable objects so that I can select an object I like the most;2) How can I modify the attributes (e.g., price) of my product such that it becomes a valuable object;3) What are the preference functions for which a given object is among the top-k objects. These three questions are formalized and called k-snippet, k-depth contour and reverse top-k query, respectively. We propose a unified framework to solve these queries by utilizing k-lower envelope as a common foundation. Our main algorithm is access optimal for k-snippet and k-lower envelope computation. We also demonstrate its access optimality for the k-depth contour problem when k is smaller than the minimum number of objects in any leaf node of the index structure. Our algorithms outperform state-of-the-art algorithms by more than an order of magnitude in terms of both CPU and I/O cost.

Bloom Filter is a widely used data structure in computer science. It enables memory efficient and fast set membership queries. Bloom filter-based solutions have been proposed in the past decade for lookup in forwarding tables of backbone routers [2]. However, the main shortcomings of using Bloom Filters for lookup lie in the absence of support for deletion operations that are needed to update the forwarding tables. Counting Bloom Filter supporting deletion has therefore to be used, increasing significantly the memory requirement. Moreover, Counting Bloom Filter suffers from both false positive and false negative. In this paper, we propose to solve the issue with deletion of Bloom Filters by using a Withdrawal To annOuncement (WTO) mapping that replaces withdrawal with announcements, transforming deletions into additions or record changes. Experimental evaluation show that the proposed techniques improve largely the performance of Bloom Filter used for forwarding lookup and open way for the use of Bloom Filters in real operational settings. © 2014 IEEE.

MapReduce is regarded as an adequate programming model for large-scale data-intensive applications. The Hadoop framework is a well-known MapReduce implementation that runs the MapReduce tasks on a cluster system. G-Hadoop is an extension of the Hadoop MapReduce framework with the functionality of allowing the MapReduce tasks to run on multiple clusters. However, G-Hadoop simply reuses the user authentication and job submission mechanism of Hadoop, which is designed for a single cluster. This work proposes a new security model for G-Hadoop. The security model is based on several security solutions such as public key cryptography and the SSL protocol, and is dedicatedly designed for distributed environments. This security framework simplifies the users authentication and job submission process of the current G-Hadoop implementation with a single-sign-on approach. In addition, the designed security framework provides a number of different security mechanisms to protect the G-Hadoop system from traditional attacks. © 2014 Elsevier Inc.

Integrated Avionics System has certainty, predictability and controllability requirements for the aviation task implementation. Due to the trust assessment considering security, reliability, integrity and real-time requirements, the basic theory and technology of Integrated Avionics System software were studied. In order to ensure the trust of Integrated Avionics System software running, the trust definition of the Integrated Avionics System software was presented based on multi-dimensional attributes as well as the formalization of the multi-dimensional trust property characterization and description. The property quantitative indicators, software trust system measurement mechanisms and evaluation method for the Integrated Avionics System were also presented. Finally, the Integrated Avionics System software credibility of assessment methods and models were proposed. The proposed software credibility assessment can effectively guarantee the reliability of the Integrated Avionics System. ©, 2014, Northeastern University. All right reserved.

Benefiting from integrating massive parallel processors, Graphics Processing Units(GPUs) have become prevalent computing devices for general-purpose parallel applications - so called GPGPU computing. While providing powerful computation capability, GPGPUs are power hungry. Almost half of the total amount of a GPGPU-based system power is consumed by GPGPU, which has seriously hindered the application of GPGPUs. As such, it's essential to build an accurate and robust model to analyze the performance and power consumption of GPGPUs. In this paper, we propose an adaptive performance and power consumption model by using random forest algorithm. The model is based on the overall GPU architecture performance counters, including multi-processor, memory access pattern and bandwidth metrics, and adapts to different NVIDIA GPU architectures. The results demonstrate that our model can achieve an average accuracy with prediction error 2.1% and 3.2% for the performance and power consumption, respectively. Furthermore, by identifying the most important impact factors and quantifying their contributions, our proposed approach can help GPGPU programmers and architects get quick insights on the performance and power consumption of GPGPU systems.

Understanding the earth as a system requires integrating many forms of data from multiple fields. Builders and funders of the cyberinfrastructure designed to enable open data sharing in the geosciences risk a key failure mode: What if geoscientists do not use the cyberinfrastructure to share, discover and reuse data? In this study, we report a baseline assessment of engagement with the NSF EarthCube initiative, an open cyberinfrastructure effort for the geosciences. We find scientists perceive the need for cross-disciplinary engagement and engage where there is organizational or institutional support. However, we also find a possibly imbalanced involvement between cyber and geoscience communities at the outset, with the former showing more interest than the latter. This analysis highlights the importance of examining fields and disciplines as stakeholders to investments in the cyberinfrastructure supporting science. © 2016 The Author(s).

Measurements of ZZ production in the ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′− channel in proton–proton collisions at 13 TeV center-of-mass energy at the Large Hadron Collider are presented. The data correspond to 36.1 fb−1 of collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2015 and 2016. Here ℓ and ℓ′ stand for electrons or muons. Integrated and differential ZZ→ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′− cross sections with Z→ℓ+ℓ− candidate masses in the range of 66 GeV to 116 GeV are measured in a fiducial phase space corresponding to the detector acceptance and corrected for detector effects. The differential cross sections are presented in bins of twenty observables, including several that describe the jet activity. The integrated cross section is also extrapolated to a total phase space and to all standard model decays of Z bosons with mass between 66 GeV and 116 GeV, resulting in a value of 17.3±0.9[±0.6(stat)±0.5(syst)±0.6(lumi)] pb. The measurements are found to be in good agreement with the standard model. A search for neutral triple gauge couplings is performed using the transverse momentum distribution of the leading Z boson candidate. No evidence for such couplings is found and exclusion limits are set on their parameters.

With the growth and the diversification of web data, as an approach to realize data mashup service combination cannot satisfy the flexibility and simplicity of data integration. In this paper we proposes service hyperlink to save the relationship between two data services and utilize reusing the service hyperlinks to combine the data services flexibly and easily. First, we develop an algorithm to quickly and efficiently generate the service hyperlink. Then we publish the links and reuse them to make mashup more flexible and easy-to-use. We illustrate the service hyperlink by the scenarios of criminal investigation for police officers.
