We present a value-driven approach capable of determining the global optimization objective of service composition to satisfy high-level value expectations. In traditional service composition methods, global and local QoS requirements and constraints are directly raised by customers, then a set of service components (web services) are selected to achieve the optimized QoS. Yet in practice, there is no mechanism helping customers accurately and comprehensively determine their QoS desires. In our approach, a customer's initial expectations of high-level global values are first put forward, and then five types of dependencies between service values are analyzed. Because values are realized under the facilitation of specific service components, value expectations and value dependencies are transformed into the objective and constraints of service selection and composition, respectively. Another feature of our approach is that, besides web services, other generalized service components such as human activity and physical resources are considered as potential components for fulfilling value expectations. The effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated in a case study of ocean transportation service (OTS).

VASEM is a methodology to be aware of service values among participants and to analyze values' relationship to direct service system design. Value model is an important part in VASEM, and is foundation of value analysis. Ocean Transportation Service is a typical service system. Take it as a case, we verify the usability of value model in a certain field. We analyze the values in Ocean Transportation Service System with 4-layer value model, introduce the forms and specifications of each model, and present a whole view of the service by VPM, POVN and VDM. On the last layer - VAM, Value Model is combined with SMDA model by value annotation. And we show a segment of the service process to form primary methods for value annotation.

This paper presents a service resource management system. It is oriented to both single and integrated service resources and manages every stage of service resource lifecycle efficiently which includes registering, publication, usage, destruction processes. To satisfy different specific service area, the developer only needs to configure the template provided by the service resource management system, which will greatly shorten the development cycle and increase the development efficiency. The paper is organized as follows: firstly, the paper presents the concept of the service resources, and introduces how to classify and depict them. Secondly, using UML use case analyzes the requirement of the service resource management. Thirdly, the service resource management system design is put forward. At the end, it introduces how to apply the system to a specific service area briefly.

Service modeling is a critical step in describing customer requirements and designing service systems. The quality of service models determines the quality of service systems to a great extent. To analyze the service models in a way that would show deficiencies in delivering service values, we propose the idea of "value annotation" by which expected values are labeled on the functional elements of service models, and their implementation degrees are connected with QoS of these functional elements. Value annotation's elementary principles, process, and model forms are presented. Then, the preliminary principles of value annotation-based service model analysis are briefly introduced. To complement the above discussion, a small case study from ocean transportation service is applied for demonstration.

Human interaction is one of the most important characteristics of group social dynamics in meetings. In this paper, we propose an approach for capture, recognition, and visualization of human interactions. Unlike physical interactions (e.g., turn-taking and addressing), the human interactions considered here are incorporated with semantics, i.e., user intention or attitude toward a topic. We adopt a collaborative approach for capturing interactions by employing multiple sensors, such as video cameras, microphones, and motion sensors. A multimodal method is proposed for interaction recognition based on a variety of contexts, including head gestures, attention from others, speech tone, speaking time, interaction occasion (spontaneous or reactive), and information about the previous interaction. A support vector machines (SVM) classifier is used to classify human interaction based on these features. A graphical user interface called MMBrowser is presented for interaction visualization. Experimental results have shown the effectiveness of our approach.

Today, almost all the C2C e-commerce community member reputation evaluating algorithms are time sensitive. The reputation of a community member is accumulated after transactions and the increment of reputation after a successful transaction is computed based on the score given by his or her transaction partner. Since people always tend to do business with those with high reputation value, the reputation of members joined in C2C community at different time will vary greatly although they may provide the same commodity quality and service. It is unfair to new comers. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to overcome the shortcoming. Based on the transaction social network, our algorithm employs the random walk strategy to compute member reputation and enhance system fairness. © 2010 IADIS.

Porting an application written for personal computer to embedded devices requires conversion of floating-point numbers and operations into fixed-point ones. Testing the conversion hence requires the latter be as close as possible to the former. The closeness is orthogonal to code coverage and requires different strategies to generate a test suite that reveals the gap between the two functions. We introduce a new test adequacy criterion and propose several metrics to quantify the closeness of two functions. After that we propose a method to generate a better test suite from a given one for the test adequacy criteria. We also show experimental results on some well-known mathematical functions. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.

This paper presents a system which adopts a standard sequence labeling technique for hedge detection and scope finding. For the first task, hedge detection, we formulate it as a hedge labeling problem, while for the second task, we use a two-step labeling strategy, one for hedge cue labeling and the other for scope finding. In particular, various kinds of syntactic features are systemically exploited and effectively integrated using a large-scale normalized feature selection method. Evaluation on the CoNLL-2010 shared task shows that our system achieves stable and competitive results for all the closed tasks. Furthermore, post-deadline experiments show that the performance can be much further improved using a sufficient feature selection. © 2010 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Similar Link Network (SiLN) is a semantic over layer on Web resources with similar relations instead of hyperlinks, which aims at providing plentiful semantics for intelligent Web activities. However, SiLN is difficult to be built based on cosine computation in large-scale Web resources due to its high building time complexity and weak connectivity. Herein, three strategies are proposed to address those issues. First, dividing and conquering strategy is applied to divide the large-scale Web resources into amounts of rough similar communities, which reduces SiLN's building time complexity significantly. After that, a multi-level structure network is designed to effectively manage the large-scale Web resources to guarantee SiLN's connectivity. Finally, two-level feedback with isolated resources strategy is developed to improve the accuracy of the building of SiLN. Experimental results have proved that our proposed method of building SiLN is feasible and efficient, with the merits of low complexity, good connectivity and high precision.

Currently, Java has been gradually applied in embedded real-time area with the improvement by the Real-Time Specification for Java (RTSJ). Accordingly, a hardware Java execution engine for embedded real-time applications, JPOR-32 (32-bit Java Processor Optimized for RTSJ), is designed. Taking JPOR-32 for an example, this paper presents the garbage collection mechanism for RTSJ-oriented embedded processor in detail. JPOR-32 provides effective architectural support for garbage collection. And the object reference format of JPOR-32 provides supports for objects tracing and heap scanning. The support for write barrier of real-time concurrent GC is also performed. Moreover, JPOR-32 provides optimized instruction level support for garbage collection. In addition, different garbage collection algorithms are compared on the base of the resource-constrained feature and the real-time requirement of the processor, and the hybrid garbage collectors are suggested.
