Sensors are now attached to a lot of mobile objects such as animals and vehicles to collect data. This forms intermittently connected mobile sensor network due to weak communication power and nodal mobility, in which conventional routing protocols in wireless sensor network don't work. In this paper, we propose a data harvesting scheme for intermittently connected mobile sensor network. This approach takes fully advantage of storage resource and mobility pattern knowledge to improve the delivery ratio while minimizing the transmission overhead. We evaluate the performance of the approach through the OMNet++ simulator with the realistic mobility traces. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves high delivery ratio while controlling the transmission overhead. Furthermore, the robust approach can be adaptive to the dynamic topology of network. ©2009 IEEE.

The mobile ad hoc networks are characterized by frequent disconnections and partitioning. In this paper, we focus on data dissemination service. We propose a publish/subscribe protocol for MANETs, which is called SAPS algorithm. This Self-Adaptive Publish/Subscribe (SAPS for short) Algorithm makes use of the information about the users' context and social behaviours, to decide how to obtain useful data. Furthermore, the subscribe nodes do not subscribe information periodically, instead, they adjust their subscribe cycle dynamically according to their context and social behaviours. We compare it with Regular Broadcast algorithm and Uniform algorithm in a series of simulation scenarios, the results of which show that our solution is able to improve data availability, use the energy of nodes efficiently, and reduce the network load.

Maintenance of articular cartilage's functional mechanical properties ultimately depends on the balance between the extracellular matrix component biosynthesis, degradation, and loss. A variety of factors are known to modulate the rate of cartilage matrix synthesis (e.g., growth factors and stress/strain environment). In the present study, we develop an integrated mathematical model that quantifies biological processes within cartilage tissue modulated by insulin-like growth factors (IGFs). Specifically, the model includes IGF transport through a deforming porous media, competitive binding to binding proteins and cell receptors, and matrix macromolecule biosynthesis - particularly glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). These newly synthesized matrix molecules are then able to modify the material properties of cartilage. The model is used to investigate the effect of synovial fluid IGF-I concentration on cartilage homeostasis. The results presented here suggest that GAG production can be rapidly "switched on" when the concentration of IGF-I reaches a certain threshold, while it is predicted that high receptor concentration leads to heterogeneous matrix production. As for the combined effect of IGF-I and mechanical loading on biosynthesis, the current model predicts that a loading regime with high strain magnitude (e.g., 10%) can achieve a synergistic effect on matrix protein production. Furthermore, dynamic loading is seen to promote spatial homogeneous GAG production. © 2009 ASCE.

With the proliferation of new online services and wireless personal devices, location-based services and applications for mobile users are widespread in use today. But the privacy of these users exposes to others increasingly in accessing those location based services. Exposure of the location information may result in privacy threat by malicious servers and hackers. In this paper, we propose a new framework that mobile users can enjoy conveniently the services provided by location-based server (LBS), and also protect their location information. This framework prevents mobile users' location information from exposing in two ways: providing the server with fake identities; two different ways of diffusing a number of fake queries with the real query hidden when and where it was issued.

In order to design the image hash from human being's view, we capture the perceptual characters of the image using Gabor filter which can sense the directions in the image just like human's primary visual cortex. For a given image, we compute the reference scale, direction and block to make sure the final hash can resist against RST (Rotation, Scale, Translation) attacks while maintain the sensitivity to local malicious manipulations. In addition, it has another promising ability to locate the tampered image blocks, approximately determined tamper methods (delete, add, modify) and the original direction of each block. The ability is very useful in forensics. The experimental results show that the strategy of the reference metrics works quite well and it is much more effective than the other state of art image hash method.

Memory impaired people, e.g., dementia people, requires careful social support. Dementia people are getting increased with very high rate especially. It has been reported that regular daily life can alleviate the symptom of the memory loss. Accordingly, human behavior suggestion is highly expected to help memory impaired people live regularly. In this paper, we propose a human behavior suggestion system based on Fuzzy-state Q-Learning for memory impaired person, and show its possible application in Intelligent Sweet Home. Specifically, we claim that an averaged frequency feature is an important factor. In order to evaluate the validity of the proposed human behavior suggestion system, we conduct experiments with a real world data set, INT DB. The experimental results show that the proposed system with the averaged frequency feature outperforms the existing system.

The evolution of services market raises the need for automatic support for negotiating service use criteria. In order to reach an agreement, the negotiating parties need to develop a common understanding of the Quality of Service (QoS) terms which are part of the Service Level Agreement (SLA). The use of semantic annotations together with reasoning can increase the level of flexibility and automation in SLA management. A framework is presented for SLA negotiation allowing the two parties to use their own terminologies.

In this paper, we introduce wavelets on the interval [0, 1] in 3D wavelet moments, which we call 3D interval wavelet moments. Based on these, new descriptors for 3D objects are put forward. They are invariant to translation, rotation and scale, and have the multi-resolution features in the radial direction, which can handle noise to some extent and provide multi-level features to satisfy various requirements. Furthermore the new method is prior to the original 3D wavelet moments on the presentation of the edge of the objects. They have fast Mallat algorithm too. With the Pearson correction in each level, we give a new method to measure the similarity of two objects. © 2009 Binary Information Press.
