As nonlinear feature extraction methods, kernel methods have been widely applied in pattern recognition. However, for high dimensional data such as face images, a kernel method will correspond to a high computational cost. In this paper, a novel idea and framework are presented to implement the kernel methods on high-dimensional data. A remarkable character of the framework is that there are two feature extraction processes. The first feature extraction process is performed to transform high dimensional samples into low dimensional data. And, the second feature extraction process is implemented based on the obtained low dimensional data. With the novel framework, the kernel methods will become much efficient. Moreover, all kernel methods can work with the framework. The experiments on face images show the validity of this framework. Further more, with this framework,kernel methods can achieve higher classification accuracies in comparison with the naive kernel methods.

Within the CHI community there is growing interest in moving beyond cognition and expanding into the social, emotional, and bodily aspects of the human-computer experience. Sex lies at the intersection of these concerns, and indeed outside of HCI, has become a central topic for anthropology, behavioral sciences, and other areas of intellectual inquiry. Examining sex and themes related to it has benefited these disciplines and we intend to understand how it can contribute to HCI. There is a tendency to desexualize technology, despite the presence of sex and sexuality in a variety of interactions, including the use of the internet for viewing pornography, building online communities, and facilitating intimacy. By rendering these interactions sexless, we risk gaining only a marginal understanding of technology's role in day-to-day life.

Based on an explicit network topology with multiple uplinks, a scheduling model for optimal network path is proposed while taking into consideration of multiple constraints such as delays, bandwidth, hops and price ratio. An optimized solution to traffic flow and price under non-linear constraint is developed using alternative manner. Flow to price ratio is optimized with dynamic selection of optimal path. A MCOP scheduling algorithm for optimal path and its engineering technique are proposed. Simulation and comparative experiments shows, this algorithm is suitable for the traffic flow optimization under different traffic-loads in a multi-links scenario.

The space transportation systems required to support NASA's Exploration Initiative will demand a high degree of reliability to ensure mission success. This reliability can be realized through autonomous fault/damage detection and repair capabilities. It is crucial that such capabilities are incorporated into these systems since it will be impractical to rely upon Extra-Vehicular Activity (EVA), visual inspection or tele-operation due to the costly, labor-intensive and time-consuming nature of these methods. One approach to achieving this capability is through the use of an autonomous inspection system comprised of miniature mobile sensor platforms that will cooperatively perform high-confidence inspection of space vehicles and habitats. This paper will discuss the efforts to develop a small scale demonstration test-bed to investigate the feasibility of using autonomous mobile sensor platforms to perform inspection operations. Progress will be discussed in technology areas including: the hardware implementation and demonstration of robotic sensor platforms, the implementation of a hardware test-bed facility, and the investigation of collaborative control algorithms.

We present a simplification algorithm for manifold polygonal meshes of plane-dominant models. Models of this type are likely to appear in man-made environments. While traditional simplification algorithms focus on generality and smooth meshes, the approach presented here considers a specific class of man-made models. By detecting and classifying edge loops on the mesh and providing a guided series of binary mesh partitions, our approach generates a series of simplified models, each of which better respects the semantics of these kinds of models than conventional approaches do. A guiding principle is to eliminate simplifications that do not make sense in constructed environments. This, coupled with the concept of "punctuated simplification", leads to an approach that is both efficient and delivers high visual quality. Comparative results are given.
