Service-oriented computing (SOC) is thought to be an effective way to tackle complex Web-based business collaborations between enterprises in e-business environment, but in practice it didn't reach the expectation. Current researches mainly focus on technological aspects, such as service publication, discovery, binding, and composition, etc, while lack in effective ways to support service identification and design before they are to be published and discovered by other enterprises. This paper analyzes the relationships between business service and inter-/intra-enterprise business processes, discusses what kind of properties a "good" service should have, and accordingly presents a service normal form (SNF) and the corresponding service normalization method. In this method, the way of how to identify normalized services from business process models, and how to create close mapping between services and legacy component-based information systems, are emphatically discussed. This method provides great significance to help enterprises identifying and designing valuable business services

This paper characterizes a dirt-cleaning multi-agent system based primarily on VSK logic. The properties of the environment and agents are described by V, S and K operators representing information perceivable, being perceived and being known in the environment. Then what an agent perceives, the conversion from information being perceived to its knowledge and the conversions between local states are discussed. At the same time, how the globe states in a process of completing a task changes is discussed and the run of DCS is illustrated dynamically. Finally, the realization of DCS is discussed.

Characteristics of tongue pose the most important information for traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis. So far, extensive studies have been made on extracting tongue surface features, but rarely refer to sublingual vein that is also diagnostically important. This paper presents a novel approach to extract spatial characteristics of sublingual vein based on the HSI color space using the H and S components. Sublingual vein structures have been successfully mapped for 113 out of 150 patients and healthy subjects.

Heterogeneous data co-clustering has attracted more and more attention in recent years due to its high impact on various applications. While the co-clustering algorithms for two types of heterogeneous data (denoted by pair-wise co-clustering), such as documents and terms, have been well studied in the literature, the work on more types of heterogeneous data (denoted by high-order co-clustering) is still very limited. As an attempt in this direction, in this paper, we worked on a specific case of high-order co-clustering in which there is a central type of objects that connects the other types so as to form a star structure of the interrelationships. Actually, this case could be a very good abstract for many real-world applications, such as the co-clustering of categories, documents and terms in text mining. In our philosophy, we treated such kind of problems as the fusion of multiple pair-wise co-clustering sub-problems with the constraint of the star structure. Accordingly, we proposed the concept of consistent bipartite graph co-partitioning, and developed an algorithm based on semi-definite programming (SDP) for efficient computation of the clustering results. Experiments on toy problems and real data both verified the effectiveness of our proposed method. Copyright 2005 ACM.

We proposed the UPRISE (unified presentation slide retrieval by impression search engine) to retrieve scenes matched with given keywords from a video recording a lecture using presentation slides. To distinguish the most suitable scene for the keywords from scenes using reused or backtracked slides, we proposed a number of impression indicators based on the position, duration and context. The combined indicator is provide higher precision than the traditional TF-IDF. Moreover, our approach can still be improved by combining with some specificity factor like IDF. However, it is important to choose some appropriate range of calculating the factor. In this paper, we propose a new specificity factor ISFP (inverse scene frequency in a presentation) to indicate the appearance ratio of a keyword in a presentation corresponding to a lecture. We also have to consider scope of output. Sometimes, it is preferable to provide scenes from beginning the topic as output. To adjust the scope of output dynamically, we propose a new concept "output range". We evaluate the ISFP and scope varying method using actual lecture presentations. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method is effective especially for keywords appeared less frequently

We have proposed unifying presentation contents, such as lecture video and presentation slides used in lectures, using metadata. For the unified contents, we have also proposed a search mechanism named UPRISE (Unified Presentation Slide Retrieval by Impression Search Engine). In this paper, we focus on the position, count, and duration information of a laser pointer, and propose a retrieval method using the information. In proposed method, we extract the position of laser pointer from video, and choose a sentence near the laser pointer position with a number of candidates. We evaluate our approach by applying it to actual presentation contents. © 2005 IEEE.

Image clustering, an important technology for image processing, has been actively researched for a long period of time. Especially in recent years, with the explosive growth of the Web, image clustering has even been a critical technology to help users digest the large amount of online visual information. However, as far as we know, many previous works on image clustering only used either low-level visual features or surrounding texts, but rarely exploited these two kinds of information in the same framework. To tackle this problem, we proposed a novel method named consistent bipartite graph co-partitioning in this paper, which can cluster Web images based on the consistent fusion of the information contained in both low-level features and surrounding texts. In particular, we formulated it as a constrained multi-objective optimization problem, which can be efficiently solved by semi-definite programming (SDP). Experiments on a real-world Web image collection showed that our proposed method outperformed the methods only based on low-level features or surround texts. Copyright © 2005 ACM.

Microarray data from time-series experiments, where gene expression profiles are measured over the course of the experiment, require specialised algorithms. In this paper we introduce new architectures of Bayesian classifiers that highlight how both relative and absolute temporal relationships can be captured in order to understand how biological mechanisms differ. We show that these classifiers improve the classification of microarray data and at the same time ensure that the models can easily be analysed by biologists by incorporating time transparently. In this paper we focus on data that has been generated to explore different types of muscular dystrophy. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
