Due to customers' demands, network intrusion detection systems (NIDS) are required more real time. Since traditional intelligent NIDS are constructed on the basis of historical network data and system logs, they are expensive and not real time in a network stream environment. This paper presents an improved real time model that based on sequence mining to accelerate the accuracy and efficiency. In this paper, multidimensional item set is used to describes network events, sliding window is used to gather network data stream, and sequence mining algorithms are applied to discover intrusions from normal network stream. Analysis and study on this model indicate that it provide a more accurate and efficient way to building real-time NIDS.

A home network service middleware called "UKARI-Kernel" has been proposed for distributed and collaborative networked appliances and networked sensors. A home network service can be established by the middleware using distributed function elements on the networked appliances. The middleware uses a service scenario description framework on the basis of BPEL, an XML language to define business processes, to set up the service according to the present situation. In this paper, we describe the overview and of the home network service middleware and its service scenario description. Then implementation of an emulator for the service scenario description framework is reported. It is noted that the proposed description framework can be constructed easily by using the existing toolkits

Oxidation of aluminum nanoclusters

The dynamics of oxidation of aluminum nanoclusters (20nm diameter) is investigated using a parallel molecular dynamics approach based on variable charge interatomic interactions due to Streitz and Mintmire that include both ionic and covalent effects. Simulations are performed for both canonical ensembles for molecular oxygen (O2) environments and microcanonical ensembles for molecular (O2) and atomic (O1) oxygen environments. Structural and dynamic correlations in the oxide region are calculated, as well as the evolution of charges, surface oxide thickness, diffusivities of atoms, and local stresses. In the microcanonical ensemble, the oxidizing reaction becomes explosive in both molecular and atomic oxygen environments due to the enormous energy release associated with Al−O bonding. Local stresses in the oxide scale cause rapid diffusion of aluminum and oxygen atoms. Analyses of the oxide scale reveal significant charge transfer and a variation of local structures from the metal-oxide interface to the oxide-environment interface. In the canonical ensemble, oxide depth grows linearly in time until ∼30ps, followed by saturation of oxide depth as a function of time. An amorphous oxide layer of thickness ∼40Å is formed after 466ps, in good agreement with experiments. The average mass density in the oxide scale is 75% of the bulk alumina density. Evolution of structural correlation in the oxide is analyzed through radial distribution and bond angles. Through detailed analyses of the trajectories of O atoms and their formation of OAln structures, we propose a three-step process of oxidative percolation that explains deceleration of oxide growth in the canonical ensemble.

We present techniques for transforming images and videos into painterly animations depicting different artistic styles. Our techniques rely on image and video analysis to compute appearance and motion properties. We also determine and apply motion information from different (user-specified) sources to static and moving images. These properties that encode spatio-temporal variations are then used to render (or paint) effects of selected styles to generate images and videos with a painted look. Painterly animations are generated using a mesh of brush stroke objects with dynamic spatio-temporal properties. Styles govern the behavior of these brush strokes as well as their rendering to a virtual canvas. We present methods for modifying the properties of these brush strokes according to the input images, videos, or motions. Brush stroke color, length, orientation, opacity, and motion are determined and the brush strokes are regenerated to fill the canvas as the video changes. All brush stroke properties are temporally constrained to guarantee temporally coherent non-photorealistic animations.

Many pervasive computing applications require location awareness in order to successfully integrate technology into our daily lives. A location system consists of a group of sensors that determine the position of a mobile user and provide the user with useful context-specific information. Locating the user requires signal exchanges between the user's mobile device and the sensors. This paper considers an acoustic-based location system for pervasive computing applications. The system is comprised of a set of microphones connected to a central server. Mobile users produce acoustic signals through standard speakers, which are already available in most mobile devices, to perform location operations through the system. We focus on the design of robust acoustic signals using multi-frequency symbols that serve both in locating and uniquely identifying the user. We conduct experiments at distances between 1 and 17 ft to explore the ability of the server to recognize and decode signals originated by different users in the same general area.

This paper provides a brief development roadmap of the neural network sensitivity analysis, from 1960's to now on. The two main streams of the sensitivity measures: partial derivative and stochastic sensitivity measures are compared. The partial derivative sensitivity (PD-SM) finds the rate of change of the network output with respect to parameter changes, while the stochastic sensitivity (ST-SM) finds the magnitudes of the output perturbations between the original training samples and the perturbed samples, in statistical sense. Their computational complexities are compared. Furthermore, how to evaluate multiple parameters of the neural network with or without correlation will be explored too. In addition, the differences of them in the application of supervised pattern classification problems are also discussed. The evaluations are based on three major applications of sensitivity analysis in supervised pattern classification problems: feature selection, sample selection and neural network generalization assessment ST-SM and PD-SM of the RBFNN will be used for investigations.

When a traffic demand is changed, a virtual topology could be reconfigured to serve that traffic and to retain high performance. We purpose a reconfiguration model that minimizes costly changes in a virtual topology and maximizes network performance for a series of reconfigurations in the long term. The model includes the reconfiguration process and the policy. The reconfiguration process finds a set of non-dominated solutions using the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) that optimizes two objectives by using the concept of Pareto optimal. The policy picks a solution from the set of solutions above using the Markov decision process (MDP). A case study based on simulation experiments is conducted to illustrate the application of our model

Restoration techniques available in the literature have not addressed their performance in terms of significant, multiple objective goals. Some of these methods have shown good performance for a single objective function. However, restoration must consider a number of objective functions. We evaluate existing models and their performance in an attempt to verify their performance and efficacy based on the literature. Our research has found not only inefficiency in some of these methods of restoration, but a general incompatibility. Consequently, This work proposes eight objective functions that yield objective goals significant to the optimal design of a WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) optical network. Each objective function model is presented and is examined by experimentation. Four proposed restoration algorithms are evaluated: KSDPR (k-shortest disjoint path restoration based on multiple uphill moves and heuristic rule), DCROS (deep conjectural reinforced optimal search), RWWA (random walk-based wavelength assignment), and PTCI (physical topology connectivity increase). Numerical results obtained by experimental evaluation of KSDPR, DCROS, RWWA, and PTCI algorithms confirm that MTWM (objective function of minimizing total wavelengths with multi-objective goals) based on the DCROS algorithm is a technique for efficient restoration in WDM optical networks.
