With the rising number of people using social networks after the pandemic of COVID-19, cybercriminals took the advantage of (i) the increased base of possible victims and (ii) the use of a trending topic as the pandemic COVID-19 to lure victims and attract their attention and put malicious content to infect the most possible number of people. Twitter platform forces an auto-shortening to any included URL within a 140-character message called “tweet” and this makes it easier for the attackers to include malicious URLs within Tweets. Here comes the need to adopt new approaches to resolve the problem or at least identify it to better understand it to find a suitable solution. One of the proven effective approaches is the adaption of machine learning (ML) concepts and applying different algorithms to detect, identify, and even block the propagation of malware. Hence, this study’s main objectives were to collect tweets from Twitter that are related to the topic of COVID-19 and extract features from these tweets and import them as independent variables for the machine learning models to be developed later, so they would identify imported tweets as to be malicious or not. © 2023, The Author(s).

Facial Expression Recognition With Vision Transformer Using Fused Shifted Windows

Facial expressions contain massive affective information. Previous methods have focused on using diverse models based on CNN or Transformer to handle the facial expression recognition(FER) task. However, most of them treat the FER task as a general image classification task and neglect the impact of regions of interest (ROIs) for the performance of FER. To verify the influence of different ROIs, in this paper, we propose a vision Transformer based on Fused Shifted windows (FSwin), called FSwin Transformer. The semantic information of the face, obtained by ROIs, guides the FSwin Transformer to focus more on the key regions. The fused shifted windows enable the model to perform global semantic interactions, allowing it to concentrate on key regions without losing the topological structural information of the entire face. Additionally, learnable parameters are introduced to learn the feature weights expressed by each ROI, helping the model dynamically adjust the attention distribution. We have conducted controlled experiments to quantitatively verify the impact of ROIs. And the experimental results show that with the increase of the number of ROIs, the accuracy of FER is significantly improved, demonstrating that the key ROIs play an important role in feature extraction. The results on Jaffe, CK+, FER2013, AffectNet have reached 99.8%, 99.0%, 74.8%, and 68.9%, respectively, which all set new state-of-the-art. Extensive cross-dataset experiments also show that the FSwin Transformer has good generalization ability, proving that our proposed model has a beneficial effect on FER tasks. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Understanding neuromusculoskeletal mechanisms significantly impacts skill specialization and proficiency. While existing methods can infer large muscle activities during gross motor movements, the estimation of dexterous motor control involving miniature muscles remains underexplored. Targeting the coordinated hand muscles in advanced piano performance, we learn spatiotemporal discrete representations of electromyography (EMG) data and hand postures utilizing a multimodal dataset. Subsequently, we train a precise and cost-effective neural network model. Based on this model, PiaMuscle is introduced to investigate if visualizing muscle activities during piano training enhances piano performance. Quantitative and qualitative results of a user study with highly skilled professional pianists demonstrate that PiaMuscle provides reliable muscle activation data to support and optimize force control. Our research underscores the potential of a naturalistic workflow to estimate small muscles' activities from readily accessible human-centric information and more accurately when combined with tool-centric data, thereby enhancing skill acquisition. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Labanotation is an approach to record human movement with different distributions in space that have different representations of symbols. Motion capture is a technique that records the trajectory of an object in the time domain by tracking the motion of key points, observed using different sensors, and recorded in files. This paper is to manually mark the Labanotation based on 3D human motion capture data, to divide the 3D human motion into gaits and poses, and to record and represent different human movements and positions in space in the notation. This is an exploration of motion capture data to generate Labanotation, while also contributing to the preservation of folk-art forms. © 2023 SPIE.

Slot filling and intent detection are two highly correlated tasks in spoken language understanding (SLU). Recent SLU research attempts to explore zero-shot prompting techniques in large language models to alleviate the data scarcity problem. Nevertheless, the existing prompting work ignores the cross-task interaction information for SLU, which leads to sub-optimal performance. To solve this problem, we present the pioneering work of Cross-task Interactive Prompting (CroPrompt) for SLU, which enables the model to interactively leverage the information exchange across the correlated tasks in SLU. Additionally, we further introduce a multi-task self-consistency mechanism to mitigate the error propagation caused by the intent information injection. We conduct extensive experiments on the standard SLU benchmark and the results reveal that CroPrompt consistently outperforms the existing prompting approaches. In addition, the multi-task self-consistency mechanism can effectively ease the error propagation issue, thereby enhancing the performance. We hope this work can inspire more research on cross-task prompting for SLU. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper proposes a novel hybridization of two metaheuristic algorithms to solve the real-parameter single objective numerical optimization problems. The proposed Three-stage Cyclic Hybrid SFS and L-SHADE (3-sCHSL) algorithm integrates the high-level interactions of Stochastic Fractal Search (SFS) and L-SHADE algorithms in a single framework. Furthermore, a guided control population initialization strategy is injected in 3-sCHSL to address the stagnation and diversity loss issues as the evolution process evolves. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested under different complexity levels of different transformations of the CEC 2021 benchmark suite with dimension 20. The experimental results demonstrated the efficiency and competitiveness of the proposed algorithm against recent state-of-the-art algorithms. In addition, 3-sCHSL achieved a superior performance when evaluating two engineering design problems. © 2023 IEEE.

The majority of existing car rental systems rely on a centralized database to manage the data. Although these centralized architectures could make the system design and operation costs are reduced, there are many security problems in real world applications. If the information of the car obtained by the tenant is not completely credible, it will lead to security risks in the rental process. This paper proposes a blockchain-based car rental system with the Internet of Things (IoT), where the blockchain is engaged to store the use history of the car, so that the car condition can be traced to the source and the risk of using the car for the tenant can be reduced. The IoT technology is employed to enable renters to flexibly rent and unlock platform cars. Our system also provides visual operation interface. The evaluation results demonstrate the practicality of our system in the online car rental market with higher security and more flexible rental methods. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In smart grid systems, the control center formulates strategies and provides services by analyzing electricity consumption data. However, ensuring the privacy and security of user data is a critical concern. While traditional data aggregation schemes can provide a certain level of privacy protection for users, they also impose limitations on the control center's access to fine-grained data. To address these challenges, we propose a privacy-preserving data aggregation scheme supporting data query (PAQ). We designed a multi-level data aggregation mechanism based on Paillier semi-homomorphic encryption to achieve efficient aggregation of user data in the control center. Additionally, a data query mechanism based on electricity consumption intervals is introduced, allowing the control center to query aggregated ciphertexts for different user categories from outsourced data on the cloud server. Security analysis demonstrates that PAQ design effectively solves security issues in data aggregation and query processes. Performance analysis indicates that the proposed scheme outperforms existing solutions in terms of efficiency. © 2024 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Some functional proteins undergo conformational changes to expose hidden binding sites when a binding molecule approaches their surface. Such binding sites are called cryptic sites and are important targets for drug discovery. However, it is still difficult to correctly predict cryptic sites. Therefore, we introduce an advanced method, CrypToth, for the precise identification of cryptic sites utilizing the topological data analysis such as persistent homology method. This method integrates topological data analysis and mixed-solvent molecular dynamics (MSMD) simulations. To identify hotspots corresponding to cryptic sites, we conducted MSMD simulations using six probes with different chemical properties: dimethyl ether, benzene, phenol, methyl imidazole, acetonitrile, and ethylene glycol. Subsequently, we applied our topological data analysis method to rank hotspots based on the possibility of harboring cryptic sites. Evaluation of CrypToth using nine target proteins containing well-defined cryptic sites revealed its superior performance compared with recent machine-learning methods. As a result, in seven of nine cases, hotspots associated with cryptic sites were ranked the highest. CrypToth can explore hotspots on the protein surface favorable to ligand binding using MSMD simulations with six different probes and then identify hotspots corresponding to cryptic sites by assessing the protein’s conformational variability using the topological data analysis. This synergistic approach facilitates the prediction of cryptic sites with a high accuracy. © 2025 The Authors. Published by American Chemical Society.

Deep learning has achieved great success in various areas and its success is closely linked to the availability of massive data. But in general, a large dataset could include sensitive data and therefore the model should have the capability to avoid privacy leakage. To achieve this aim, many works apply the famous privacy framework named differential privacy into deep learning to preserve privacy. In this article, we propose a novel perturbed iterative gradient descent optimization (PIGDO) algorithm and prove that this algorithm satisfies the differential privacy. Besides, we propose a modified moments accountant (MMA) method to conduct the privacy analysis and obtain a tighter bound of privacy loss compared with the original moments accountant method. A number of experiments demonstrate that our optimization algorithm can not only improve the model accuracy and training speed, but also achieve better privacy guarantees over the state-of-the-art algorithm while reaching the equivalent accuracy.
