Due to the high cost of Image Quality Assessment (IQA) datasets, achieving robust generalization remains challenging for prevalent deep learning-based IQA methods. To address this, this paper proposes a novel end-to-end blind IQA method: Causal-IQA. Specifically, we first analyze the causal mechanisms in IQA tasks and construct a causal graph to understand the interplay and confounding effects between distortion types, image contents, and subjective human ratings. Then, through shifting the focus from correlations to causality, Causal-IQA aims to improve the estimation accuracy of image quality scores by mitigating the confounding effects using a causality-based optimization strategy. This optimization strategy is implemented on the sample subsets constructed by a Counterfactual Division process based on the Backdoor Criterion. Extensive experiments illustrate the superiority of Causal-IQA.

Most English foreign language (EFL) studies focus solely on human beings. This research explores how edge computing can facilitate learning for all things. The XoT (Xducation of Things) framework was proposed to educate both human and all things. All things encompass two terms: AI-Agent and smartthings (covering physical and digital smart objects). At the core of this framework is Smart Question Answer Forwarding Mechanism (SQA-Forwarding), specifically designed to assist all things in building knowledge. To demonstrate this, the smartXoT environment was developed based on XoT framework, and its impacts on EFL learners was assessed. A quasi-experimental study involving 26 EFL learners, divided into an experimental group (EG) and a control group (CG), examined the differences in learning achievement of smartthings and EFL learners when using the smartXoT environment with/without SQA-Forwarding. Findings, on one hand, indicated that smartthings in the EG developed knowledge bases greater than those in the CG. On the other hand, the interaction between EFL learners and smartthings with SQA-Forwarding significantly improved learners' writing skills, with revisions playing a crucial role in enhancing writing quality. Thus, the XoT framework offers a novel and promising approach to educating both humans and all things. © 2013 IEEE.

Decentralized Federated Learning (DFL) is extensively applied in various areas, e.g., healthcare, finance, and Internet of Things (loT), offering practical solutions for distributed intelligent applications and data collaboration. In DFL systems, participants, e.g., edge devices, organizations, or nodes, collaborate in the training of a shared global model by aggregating local models from various participants. During this process, participants need to communicate frequently with a central authority/node/server to share model parameters. Such communication is vulnerable to malicious attacks or tampering, posing a significant threat to the integrity of model training. The integrity verification method can provide an integrity guarantee for the global model of DFL. However, most of the existing integrity verification schemes are centralized and not suitable for resource-constrained DFL scenarios. Therefore, how to verify the integrity of the global model becomes an important issue in DFL. To address it, we devise a global model integrity verification method for DFL. Specifically, we generate a digital signature for each global model parameter as proof of integrity, while improving the efficiency of integrity verification by electing delegates to conduct the verification process. A series of experiments is conducted to validate the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results demonstrate that our approach not only effectively ensures the integrity of the global model but also functions well under limited resources.

$k$k-TEVS: A $ k$k-Times E-Voting Scheme on Blockchain With Supervision

The e-vote is regarded as a way to express the opinion that the voters ask for. Actually, the e-vote could be applied wildly like questionnaire, survey and feedback. Moreover, the coexistences of efficiency and security as well as transparency and privacy could be considered as building blocks in the e-vote system. The blockchain could provide a public access board to reduce the storage costs for the field consisted of the vote group manager (GM) with its vote assistants (VA). Particularly the $k$ -times anonymous authentication ( $k$ -TAA) could also be a practical approach to preserve voters’ privacy and reduce the computation costs during the vote process. However, the e-vote scheme with pure $k$ -TAA strategy could damage either the supervision of voting or the efficiency and consistency of authentication process. What’s more, the impacts of dishonest voters couldn’t be stopped until the vote end. To tackle these problems, we apply the accumulator technology to add or revoke the voters at any time and extend the framework of $k$ -TAA with the update process for the e-vote on blockchain for supervision ( $ k$ -TEVS). In our scheme, the voter updates his membership witness and proves the fact that he is still a valid member with respective VA under the latest accumulator value. What’s more, this witness update operation is not contained in the authentication process, which means that the authentication process is still constant and efficient. Moreover, our add or delete update process with signature of knowledge needs only one pairing operation. For the security, we prove that the relaxed anonymity still holds in the $ k$ -TEVS framework. Finally, We implement $ k$ -TEVS scheme, the Emura’s work [1] and the Huang’s work [2] for comparison. Then we make time cost and communication cost experiments, which present the feasibility and practicality of this scheme.

Medical time series has been playing a vital role in real-world healthcare systems as valuable information in monitoring health conditions of patients. Traditional methods towards medical time series classification rely on handcrafted feature extraction and statistical methods;with the recent advancement of artificial intelligence, the machine learning and deep learning methods have become more popular. However, existing methods often fail to fully model the complex spatial dynamics under different scales, which ignore the dynamic multi-resolution spatial and temporal joint inter-dependencies. Moreover, they are less likely to consider the special baseline wander problem as well as the multi-view characteristics of medical time series, which largely hinders their prediction performance. To address these limitations, we propose a Multi-resolution Spatiotemporal Graph Learning framework, MedGNN, for medical time series classification. Specifically, we first propose to construct multi-resolution adaptive graph structures to learn dynamic multi-scale embeddings. Then, to address the baseline wander problem, we propose Difference Attention Networks to operate self-attention mechanisms on the finite difference for temporal modeling. Moreover, to learn the multi-view characteristics, we utilize the Frequency Convolution Networks to capture complementary information of medical time series from the frequency domain. In addition, we introduce the Multi-resolution Graph Transformer architecture to model the dynamic dependencies and fuse the information from different resolutions. Finally, we have conducted extensive experiments on multiple medical real-world datasets that demonstrate the superior performance of our method. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The current image-text cross-modal retrieval faces challenges due to the heterogeneous nature of different modalities. This paper proposes an improved model based on multi-scale modal distance learning to enhance the performance of coarse-grained and fine-grained image-text matching. In the image encoding part, an improved ResNet architecture is adopted, utilizing upsampling techniques to better preserve key semantic information. For text encoding, BERT and Bi-LSTM models are combined to extract shallow and deep textual features, respectively. We design a coarse-fine granularity interaction mechanism, leveraging a bidirectional stacked Transformer to achieve local similarity interaction between image regions and text words, while also using Bi-LSTM-extracted contextual features to interact with global image features for global similarity matching. Additionally, this paper introduces a novel multi-scale modal contrastive loss, which dynamically adjusts the distance between samples of different modalities, thereby improving the model's sensitivity to semantic similarity. Experimental results on the COCO 5K and Flickr30K datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing mainstream methods in both retrieval accuracy and efficiency, achieving complementary advantages between coarse- and fine-grained features. This provides an effective solution and new research direction for cross-modal retrieval.

Pervasive sensing and wearable sensor techniques have been increasingly employed to monitor and recognize human activities through body sensors in areas of smart healthcare and manufacturing. However, conventional machine learning or deep learning based human activity recognition (HAR) requires a large amount of labeled data, which is cost-expensive in real-world scenarios. To tackle this issue, we propose a contrastive learning framework for HAR (CL-HAR), which utilizes the generated unlabeled data as the input and explores the supervised features of the unlabeled data under the principle of self-supervised learning. A simple yet effective backbone network as a feature extractor for subsequent activity recognition is proposed. By using a small portion of the labeled samples as the training set which is fed into our learned feature extractor, we build a classifier and use the rest of the data to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of our CL method. Extensive experiments on three benchamark datasets and one real-world dataset demonstrate that CL-HAR can achieve better classification accuracy than compared supervised and semi-supervised methods with less labelled samples, which is of practical use. © 2023 IEEE.

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has achieved remote diagnosis and real-time health monitoring through intelligent sensor devices and Internet of Things (IoT) technology, providing great convenience for analyzing medical conditions between doctors and patients. However, sensitive information such as patient medical data may face security challenges such as data leakage and abuse during transmission in the IoMT. To ensure the confidentiality and unforgeability of medical data transmission, scholars have proposed many cryptographic schemes. With the development of quantum computers, schemes based on traditional cryptographic primitives have become insecure. Existing cryptographic schemes for IoMT cannot simultaneously meet the security requirements of high communication performance, low computational overhead, and resistance to quantum attacks. Therefore, we propose an efficient module-lattice-based certificateless online/offline signcryption (MLCLOOSC) scheme resistant to quantum attacks while meeting the confidentiality and unforgeability requirements under Type I and Type II attacks. Compared with five recent CLOOSC schemes, theoretical analysis, and experimental test results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the other five schemes regarding computational and communication costs and security. Therefore, our scheme is more suitable for application in IoMT scenarios. © 2014 IEEE.

Multimodal sarcasm detection aims to identify whether utterances express sarcastic intentions contrary to their literal meaning based on multimodal information. However, existing methods fail to explore the model’s "ability to understand" the semantics expressed by sentences in the image context from semantic diversity perspectives. In this paper, we propose a multi-view semantic awareness method, which concretizes semantics from multiple perspectives to improve the model’s ability to capture different semantic features. Specifically, two learnable prefixes are attached to the text representation respectively to construct semantic representations from both the literal meaning and sarcastic intention perspectives. Then, image-text information is further fused through cross-attention to guide the semantic representation of different perspectives in the image context. Finally, the semantics expressed by prefixes are strengthened through KL divergence, thereby encouraging the model to capture two distinctive semantic features. Experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

In recent years, Electric Vehicles (EVs) have emerged as a sustainable alternative to internal combustion vehicles, noted for better efficiency, lower operational costs, and reduced carbon emissions. However, with the growing adoption of EVs and limited charging infrastructure, challenges such as charging congestion arise. Traditional plug-in and in-Parking Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging modes, constrained by fixed charging locations, lack flexibility and necessitate long charging times. Therefore, this paper introduces a novel in-Motion V2V charging mode, termed V2V (M) mode, allowing an EV as an energy Provider (EV-P) and an EV as an energy Consumer (EV-C) to form a V2V charging Pair (V2V-Pair). Then, the V2V-Pair can transfer energy via wireless V2V charging service while on-the-move. In this paper, the proposed V2V (M) management framework employs a Path Proximity-based V2V Pair matching algorithm and spatio-temporal cooperative path planning, to enhance charging efficiency and reduce charging trip duration. The urban environment simulation results demonstrate marked improvements of the proposed V2V (M) mode. It shorters the charging trip duration and enhances charging service efficiency, offering a viable solution to current EV charging constraints.
