CEMA-LSTM:Enhancing Contextual Feature Correlation for Radar Extrapolation Using Fine-Grained Echo Datasets

Accurate precipitation nowcasting can provide great convenience to the public so they can conduct corresponding arrangements in advance to deal with the possible impact of upcoming heavy *** relevant research activities have shown their concerns on various deep learning models for radar echo extrapolation,where radar echo maps were used to predict their consequent moment,so as to recognize potential severe convective weather ***,these approaches suffer from an inaccurate prediction of echo dynamics and unreliable depiction of echo aggregation or dissipation,due to the size limitation of convolution filter,lack of global feature,and less attention to features from previous *** address the problems,this paper proposes a CEMA-LSTM recurrent unit,which is embedded with a Contextual Feature Correlation Enhancement Block(CEB)and a Multi-Attention Mechanism Block(MAB).The CEB enhances contextual feature correlation and supports its model to memorize significant features for near-future prediction;the MAB uses a position and channel attention mechanism to capture global features of radar *** practical radar echo datasets were used involving the FREM and CIKM 2017 *** quantification and visualization of comparative experimental results have demonstrated outperformance of the proposed CEMA-LSTMover recentmodels,e.g.,PhyDNet,MIM and PredRNN++,*** particular,compared with the second-rankedmodel,its average POD,FAR and CSI have been improved by 3.87%,1.65%and 1.79%,respectively on the FREM,and by 1.42%,5.60%and 3.16%,respectively on the CIKM 2017.

Modeling Hybrid Feature-Based Phishing Websites Detection Using Machine Learning Techniques

In this paper, we mainly present a machine learning based approach to detect real-time phishing websites by taking into account URL and hyperlink based hybrid features to achieve high accuracy without relying on any third-party systems. In phishing, the attackers typically try to deceive internet users by masking a webpage as an official genuine webpage to steal sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, social security numbers, credit card information, etc. Anti-phishing solutions like blacklist or whitelist, heuristic, and visual similarity based methods cannot detect zero-hour phishing attacks or brand-new websites. Moreover, earlier approaches are complex and unsuitable for real-time environments due to the dependency on third-party sources, such as a search engine. Hence, detecting recently developed phishing websites in a real-time environment is a great challenge in the domain of cybersecurity. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes a hybrid feature based anti-phishing strategy that extracts features from URL and hyperlink information of client-side only. We also develop a new dataset for the purpose of conducting experiments using popular machine learning classification techniques. Our experimental result shows that the proposed phishing detection approach is more effective having higher detection accuracy of 99.17% with the XG Boost technique than traditional approaches. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2022.

Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed machine learning (ML) approach that enables multiple edge nodes to collaboratively train ML models by sharing model parameters, thus addressing privacy concerns. However, in highly distributed, dynamic, and volatile FL environments, the global model is vulnerable to various corruptions. For instance, edge nodes might falsely claim that the received global model is incomplete, or the channel that transmits the global model is untrustworthy. Effectively verifying the integrity of the global model poses a critical challenge. To tackle this issue, we introduce a method for verifying model integrity called Federated learning global Model Integrity Verification (FMIV). It leverages Merkle Hash Tree (MHT) to generate integrity proofs of the global model during verification. To improve security, we integrate random security codes during proof generation. FMIV is capable of verifying the global model updated by the central server and shared with untrusted edge nodes, while efficiently identifying the edge node caching the incomplete global model. Furthermore, we conduct theoretical analysis and extensive experiments to validate the performance of FMIV. Compared to the two state-of-the-art approaches, FMIV consistently exhibits a notable improvement in verification efficiency and effectiveness in detecting model corruption. © 2024 IEEE.

An Adaptive Heterogeneous Credit Card Fraud Detection Model Based on Deep Reinforcement Training Subset Selection

Heterogeneous fraud detection is an important means of credit card security assurance, which can utilize historical transaction records in a source and target domain to build an effective fraud detection model. Nevertheless, large feature distribution differences between source and target transaction instances and the complex intrinsic structure hidden behind transaction data make it difficult for existing credit card fraud detection (CCFD) models to capture and transfer the most informative feature representations and seriously hinder detection performance. In this work, we propose a novel adaptive heterogeneous CCFD model named adaptive heterogeneous credit card fraud detection model based on deep reinforcement training subset selection (RTAHC) based on deep reinforcement training subset selection, which mainly contains two components: selection distribution generator (SDG) and transaction fraud detector (TFD, including feature extractor with an attention mechanism and classifier). The SDG can generate the selection probability distribution vector via the reinforcement reward mechanism, and then transaction instances in the source domain relevant to the target domain are selected. The feature extractor with an attention mechanism can learn the abstract deep semantic feature representations of selected source transaction instances and the target domain. The joint training of SDG and TFD can provide more real-time and accurate transaction feature representations to reduce the distribution discrepancy between the two domains. We verify the detection performance of RTAHC across a large real-world credit card transaction dataset and four public datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that the RTAHC model can exhibit competitive CCFD performance. Although the containers are featured by light-weightness, it is still resource-consuming to pull and startup a large container image, especially in relatively resource-constrained edge cloud. Fortunately, Docker, as the most widely used container, provides a unique layered architecture that allows the same layer to be shared between microservices so as to lower the deployment cost. Meanwhile, it is highly desirable to deploy dependent microservices of an application together to lower the operation cost. Therefore, the balancing of microservice deployment cost and the operation cost should be considered comprehensively to achieve minimal overall cost of an on-demand application. In this paper, we first formulate this problem into a Quadratic Integer Programming form (QIP) and prove it as a NP-hard problem. We further propose a Randomized Rounding-based Microservice Deployment and Layer Pulling (RR-MDLP) algorithm with low computation complexity and guaranteed approximation ratio. Through extensive experiments, we verify the high efficiency of our algorithm by the fact that it significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art microservice deployment strategies. © 2023 IEEE.

Leukemia, a malignant disease characterized by the rapid proliferation of specific types of white blood cells (WBC), has prompted increased interest in leveraging automatic WBC classification system. This study presents the design of a robust WBC classification system, integrating deep learning with microscopic image analysis. The proposed classification model is designed to categorize blood cells into four distinct groups: eosinophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, and neutrophil. The study employs a Kaggle image dataset for comprehensive learning. The dataset comprises 12,500 microscopic images used to categorize the four blood cell groups. To enhance performance and reduce the likelihood of overfitting, transfer learning techniques are employed. Six deep transfer learning models namely VGG16, ResNet50, AlexNet, MobileNet, GoogLeNet, and EfficientNetBO are used for feature extraction and classification. The results of the experiments show that VGG16 and MobileNet demonstrated enhancements compared to other pre-trained models when evaluated on both augmented and original datasets. A diverse set of evaluation criteria was employed to thoroughly assess the effectiveness of medical image classification. Notably, the VGG16 and MobileNet models accurately predicted Lymphocytes and Monocytes with a 100% accuracy rate, and Eosinophil and Neutrophil with rates of 99.35% and 99.81%, respectively. This research work empower medical practitioners, particularly in the field of pathology and hematology by providing advanced tools for accurate blood cell classification. The proposed VGG16 and MobileNet models hold promise for simplifying WBC classification, improving decision-making processes, and ultimately advancing patient care in the medical domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Container based microservices have been widely applied to promote the cloud elasticity. The mainstream Docker containers are structured in layers, which are organized in stack with bottom-up dependency. To start a microservice, the required layers are pulled from a remote registry and stored on its host server, following the layer dependency order. This incurs long microservice startup time and hinders the performance efficiency. In this paper, we discover that, for the first time, the layer pulling order can be adjusted to accelerate the microservice startup. Specifically, we address the problem on microservice layer pulling orchestration for startup time minimization and prove it as NP-hard. We propose a Longest-chain based Out-of-order layer Pulling Orchestration (LOPO) strategy with low computational complexity and guaranteed approximation ratio. Through extensive real-world trace driven experiments, we verify the efficiency of our LOPO and demonstrate that it reduces the microservice startup time by 22.71% on average in comparison with state-of-the-art solutions. © 2023 IEEE.

Extending generalized unsupervised manifold alignment

Building connections between different data sets is a fundamental task in machine learning and related application community. With proper manifold alignment, the correspondences between data sets will assist us with comprehensive study of data processes and analyses. Despite the several progresses in semi-supervised and unsupervised scenarios, potent manifold alignment methods in generalized and realistic circumstances remain in absence. Besides, theretofore unsupervised algorithms seldom prove themselves mathematically. In this paper, we devise an efficient method to properly solve the unsupervised manifold alignment problem and denominate it as extending generalized unsupervised manifold alignment(EGUMA)method. More specifically, an explicit relaxed integer programming method is adopted to solve the unsupervised manifold alignment problem, which reconciles three factors covering the updated local structure matching, the the feature comparability and geometric preservation. An additional effort is retained on extending the Frank Wolfe algorithm to tacking our optimization problem. Besides our previous endeavors we adopt a new strategy for neighborhood discovery in the manifolds. The main advantages over previous methods accommodate(1) simultaneous alignment and discovery of manifolds;(2) complete unsupervised learning structure without any prerequisite correspondence;(3) more concise local geometry for the embedding space;(4) efficient alternative optimization;(5) strict mathematical analysis on the convergence and efficiency issues. Experiments on real-world applications verify the high accuracy and efficiency of our proposed method.
