Industrial conveyor belt systems are an efficient means of transport due to their adaptability and extension. Nonetheless, such systems are prone to various failures, including but not limited to: idler anomalies; belt tears; and pin misalignment which can cause significant disruptions in the production process. Preemptive maintenance and health monitoring of these conveyor belts is a common practice for avoiding these failures, but a challenging task due to the rarity of comprehensive anomaly detection datasets in the area, with current works aimed at evaluating the belt's immediate condition at fixed points. This study addresses this research gap by comparing multiple machine learning techniques, such as a proposed Hybrid Neural Network (HNN) tailored for classification of multiple anomaly classes, as well as machine learning approaches for time series based on feature extraction, Catch22, Minirocket Arsenal, and Time Series Forest. Our proposed HNN architecture performed better in classifying and distinguishing between different types of anomalies, with an accuracy of 95.55%. The obtained results suggest a promising approach for the area of predictive maintenance for industrial conveyor systems, as well as gives insights on possible improvements on the model and future research.

Successful, enjoyable group interactions are important in public and personal contexts, especially for teenagers whose peer groups are important for self-identity and self-esteem. Social robots seemingly have the potential to positively shape group interactions, but it seems difficult to effect such impact by designing robot behaviors solely based on related (human interaction) literature. In this article, we take a user-centered approach to explore how teenagers envisage a social robot "group assistant". We engaged 16 teenagers in focus groups, interviews, and robot testing to capture their views and reflections about robots for groups. Over the course of a two-week summer school, participants co-designed the action space for such a robot and experienced working with/wizarding it for 10+ hours. This experience further altered and deepened their insights into using robots as group assistants. We report results regarding teenagers’ views on the applicability and use of a robot group assistant, how these expectations evolved throughout the study, and their repeat interactions with the robot. Our results indicate that each group moves on a spectrum of need for the robot, reflected in use of the robot more (or less) for ice-breaking, turn-taking, and fun-making as the situation demanded.

Insurance Contract for High Renewable Energy Integration

The increasing penetration of renewable energy poses significant challenges to power grid reliability. There have been increasing interests in utilizing financial tools, such as insurance, to help end-users hedge the potential risk of lost load due to renewable energy variability. With insurance, a user pays a premium fee to the utility, so that he will get compensated in case his demand is not fully satisfied. A proper insurance design needs to resolve the following two challenges: (i) users’ reliability preference is private information;and (ii) the insurance design is tightly coupled with the renewable energy investment decision. To address these challenges, we adopt the contract theory to elicit users’ private reliability preferences, and we study how the utility can jointly optimize the insurance contract and the planning of renewable energy. A key analytical challenge is that the joint optimization of the insurance design and the planning of renewables is non-convex. We resolve this difficulty by revealing important structural properties of the optimal solution, using the help of two benchmark problems: the no-insurance benchmark and the social-optimum benchmark. Compared with the no-insurance benchmark, we prove that the social cost and users’ total energy cost are always no larger under the optimal contract. Simulation results show that the largest benefit of the insurance contract is achieved at a medium electricity-bill price together with a low type heterogeneity and a high renewable uncertainty. © 2022, CC BY.

In this article, a complete 3-D integrated sensing system intended for practical applications was presented on a printed circuit board (PCB) board, starting with lead-free piezoelectric films deposited using an RF sputtering system, an MEMS structure design/simulation, device fabrication, and a signal processing chip design, including charge- to-voltage transformation, signal amplification, 60-Hz noise rejection, and low-power RF wireless transmission chip for remote monitoring. Both the signal processing chips and the RF wireless transmitter chips were manufactured using the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) CMOS process. The piezoelectric coefficient d33 was measured as 27.21 pm/V of the proposed ZnO:Li doped Mg (MLZO) films. To meet the frequency specifications of industrial applications, the ring-structure devices with a 7730-Hz resonance frequency were designed using ANSYS simulation software. There was only a 0.39% deviation compared to the simulation results with the actual experimental data. The measurement results of the proposed system showed that the acceleration detection range was approximately 137 mV/ g (p-p). The voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) adopted in the wireless transmitter chip had a four-leaf clover structure inductor with two symmetrical axes resulting in better suppression of magnetic field radiation. Finally, this system was applied to industrial spindles, and the normal and abnormal operation information of spindles was successfully and wirelessly monitored. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Indonesia has enormous geothermal potential, but it only contributes 5% to Indonesia's energy matrix. During 37 years of operation, PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy Kamojang area has been operating to produce electricity and is currently capable of supplying and distributing electricity to the Java-Bali area with a capacity of 60 MWe. However, this can run into a decrease in the efficiency and effectiveness of system performance due to energy losses in several geothermal power plant components during energy conversion. In this case, exergy analysis at PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy Kamojang area Unit 4 direct-dry steam cycle was done on each component and state. This aims to know the energy and exergy stream and where it happened irreversibly at the component. The biggest irreversibility value occurred at the turbine and main condenser, with a value of 21,693.890 kW and 21,688.148 kW. The total irreversibility of all systems is 58,326.201 kW, while the total exergy inlet systems is 119,308.457 kW, so the value efficiency exergy obtained is 51.13%. Based on the environment as dead state analysis, an efficiency exergy value is inversely proportional to the irreversibility value and ascending environment temperature. System optimization was done with the genetic algorithm method, with variable values at the pressure wellhead and inlet turbine for the overall exergy efficiency value. The value obtained from optimization is 11.98 bar at the wellhead and 10.023 bar at the inlet turbine, and the overall efficiency exergy increased by 51.22%. © 2023 The Author(s)

The rapid advancement of photorealistic generators has reached a critical juncture where the discrepancy between authentic and manipulated images is increasingly indistinguishable. Thus, benchmarking and advancing techniques detecting digital manipulation become an urgent issue. Although there have been a number of publicly available face forgery datasets, the forgery faces are mostly generated using GAN-based synthesis technology, which does not involve the most recent technologies like diffusion. The diversity and quality of images generated by diffusion models have been significantly improved and thus a much more challenging face forgery dataset shall be used to evaluate SOTA forgery detection literature. In this paper, we propose a large-scale, diverse, and fine-grained high-fidelity dataset, namely GenFace, to facilitate the advancement of deepfake detection, which contains a large number of forgery faces generated by advanced generators such as the diffusion-based model and more detailed labels about the manipulation approaches and adopted generators. In addition to evaluating SOTA approaches on our benchmark, we design an innovative Cross Appearance-Edge Learning (CAEL) detector to capture multi-grained appearance and edge global representations, and detect discriminative and general forgery traces. Moreover, we devise an Appearance-Edge Cross-Attention (AECA) module to explore the various integrations across two domains. Extensive experiment results and visualizations show that our detection model outperforms the state of the arts on different settings like cross-generator, cross-forgery, and cross-dataset evaluations. In this research study, we compare the predictive performance of two advanced deep learning-based models in order to provide a solution to TACE (Transarterial Chemoembolization) response prediction in HCC (Hepatocellular Carcinoma) patients. Using entire abdominal CT scans enabled a broader perspective available for the model, eliminating the need for segmentation during the preprocessing. Making use of both single-phase and multi-phase CT imaging, we have used DenseNet121 and have obtained an accuracy of 80% for the multi-phase *** Relevance: The ability to predict the effectiveness of TACE treatment prior to its administration makes it possible to provide a better decision-making aid for physicians and patients.

Low-Rate Denial of Service (LDoS) attacks, an emerging breed of DoS attacks, present a formidable challenge in terms of their detectability. Within the realm of network security, these attacks cast a substantial shadow over the availability and integrity of services. This study seeks to delve into the intricate mechanics of LDoS attacks and explore the landscape of developed detection methodologies. Employing bibliometric analysis, we employ a multifaceted approach to gather research insights pertaining to LDoS attack detection. This approach encompasses the examination of evolving research trends, scrutiny of widely cited scientific publications within the same domain, identification of prolific researchers shaping the field, and a judicious selection of reputable publishers for dependable information acquisition. Furthermore, our study undertakes a meticulous categorization and classification of previously proposed LDoS detection methods documented in well-established scientific literature. This endeavor not only provides a more profound comprehension of the evolutionary trajectory and thematic thrusts within LDoS attack detection research, but it also facilitates the identification of gaps and directions for future exploration. The culmination of these analytical efforts culminates in a comprehensive framework. This contribution manifests through structured categorization, classification, and a forward-looking research roadmap, which collectively serve as valuable tools for both current and aspiring researchers engaged in LDoS attack detection. In summary, this research not only delves into the complexities of LDoS attacks and their mechanisms but also augments the current understanding of detection capabilities. Through its nuanced contributions, this paper extends a helpful guide to the dynamic realm of LDoS attack detection, thus catalyzing advancements and insights for the future.

Research on digital innovation with an entrepreneurial spirit continues to develop but is limited to one country and/or one field. From a bibliometric review, this study purpose to visually study mapping and research trends in the field of digital innovation on an international scale. This study used bibliometric techniques with secondary data from Scopus. Analyze and visualize data using the VOSViewer program and the analyze search results function on Scopus. This study analyzed 821 academic documents published from 1983 to 2019. According to the research, the Universitetet I Oslo and Henfridsson, O. had the most active affiliated institutions and individual scientists in digital innovation research. computer science was the most studied of digital innovation. Based on the identification of a collection of knowledge accumulated from over thirty-six years of publication, this research proposes a grouping of digital innovation research themes: Health Care, Internet of Things, Conceptual Framework, Open System, Digital Platforms, Education, abbreviated as HICODE research themes. © 2021 IEEE.
