Benchmarking provides experimental evidence of the scientific baseline to enhance the progression of fundamental research, which is also applicable to robotics. In this paper, we propose a method to benchmark metrics of robotic manipulation, which addresses the spatial-temporal reasoning skills for robot learning with the jigsaw game. In particular, our approach exploits a simple set of jigsaw pieces by designing a structured protocol, which can be highly customizable according to a wide range of task specifications. Researchers can selectively adopt the proposed protocol to benchmark their research outputs, on a comparable scale in the functional, task, and system-level of details. The purpose is to provide a potential look-up table for learning-based robot manipulation, commonly available in other engineering disciplines, to facilitate the adoption of robotics through calculated, empirical, and systematic experimental evidence. © 2023 IEEE.

Dynamic programming is a fundamental algorithm that can be found in our daily lives easily. One of the dynamic programming algorithm implementations consists of solving the 0/1 knapsack problem. A 0/1 knapsack problem can be seen from industrial production cost. It is prevalent that a production cost has to be as efficient as possible, but the expectation is to get the proceeds of the products higher. Thus, the dynamic programming algorithm can be implemented to solve the diverse knapsack problem, one of which is the 0/1 knapsack problem, which would be the main focus of this paper. The implementation was implemented using C language. This paper was created as an early implementation algorithm using a Dynamic program algorithm applied to an Automatic Identification System (AIS) dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

Aircraft avionics systems are complicated systems which involves high number of components and complex cable assembly procedure. To deal with this challenge, Augmented Reality (AR) has been proposed to be an effective method to improve assembly efficiency and to reduce error rates. In this paper, the authors developed AR-based guidance cable assembly and compare the impact of different modes of AR information. The results show that although AR outperformed the paper document assembly guidance, the design of AR information has distinct influence on the successful completion of the cables assembly process. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Robust Policy Learning for Multi-UAV Collision Avoidance with Causal Feature Selection

In unseen and complex outdoor environments, collision avoidance navigation for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarms presents a challenging problem. It requires UAVs to navigate through various obstacles and complex backgrounds. Existing collision avoidance navigation methods based on deep reinforcement learning show promising performance but suffer from poor generalization abilities, resulting in performance degradation in unseen environments. To address this issue, we investigate the cause of weak generalization ability in DRL and propose a novel causal feature selection module. This module can be integrated into the policy network and effectively filters out non-causal factors in representations, thereby reducing the influence of spurious correlations between non-causal factors and action predictions. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method can achieve robust navigation performance and effective collision avoidance especially in scenarios with unseen backgrounds and obstacles, which significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art algorithms. Fall risk assessment is an effective and simple measure to evaluate the balance of people especially the elderly who are likely to have balance disorder. Lose of body balance increases a fall risk which could lead to severe damage to aging persons. In this paper, we propose to apply pose estimation technique based on PoseNet method to detect body joints from webcam's video for two types of fall risk assessment: Five Times Sit to Stand Test (FTSTS) and 30-Second Chair Stand Test (30CST). The experiments were performed with 17 volunteers concurrently with the measures of a healthcare expert. The results revealed that our proposed technique corresponds well with the measure of the expert evaluating by a Pearson correlation coefficient which equals to 0.903 and 0.980 for FTSTS and 30CST respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

Constant-time Motion Planning with Anytime Refinement for Manipulation

Robotic manipulators are essential for future autonomous systems, yet limited trust in their autonomy has confined them to rigid, task-specific systems. The intricate configuration space of manipulators, coupled with the challenges of obstacle avoidance and constraint satisfaction, often makes motion planning the bottleneck for achieving reliable and adaptable autonomy. Recently, a class of constant-time motion planners (CTMP) was introduced. These planners employ a preprocessing phase to compute data structures that enable online planning provably guarantee the ability to generate motion plans, potentially sub-optimal, within a user defined time bound. This framework has been demonstrated to be effective in a number of time-critical tasks. However, robotic systems often have more time allotted for planning than the online portion of CTMP requires, time that can be used to improve the solution. To this end, we propose an anytime refinement approach that works in combination with CTMP algorithms. Our proposed framework, as it operates as a constant time algorithm, rapidly generates an initial solution within a user-defined time threshold. Furthermore, functioning as an anytime algorithm, it iteratively refines the solution's quality within the allocated time budget. This enables our approach to strike a balance between guaranteed fast plan generation and the pursuit of optimization over time. We support our approach by elucidating its analytical properties, showing the convergence of the anytime component towards optimal solutions. Additionally, we provide empirical validation through simulation and real-world demonstrations on a 6 degree-of-freedom robot manipulator, applied to an assembly domain. Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems to be a disruptive technology that defines and reshapes the economy, more efficient industrial processes, new business models, and the service sector, becoming the development of different practices than before. The literature shows that it will be included in all fields and people's lives, as is the case in the digital economy. Artificial Intelligence for Digital Economy has not been studied significantly. This study uses bibliometric analysis to graphically map scientific publications and research trends in the Artificial Intelligence for Digital Economy sector around the world in the last ten years. The Scopus database was used to collect metadata information for this study, and VOSViewer was used to demonstrate bibliometric network mapping. We use an article selection procedure starting with the searched keywords and year constraints and then exporting the database to a RIS file format. Over the last ten years, we retrieved 540 scientific publications published between 2012 and 2021 from the Scopus database. From the data obtained, researchers at the Russian Federation have the most published papers indexed by Scopus among the most productive countries (N=131), the most productive authors are Petrenko, S.A. (N=4), and the most subject area is computer science (N=246). We also use VOSViewer to map the Network Theme. This study recommends incorporating research subjects Artificial Intelligence for Digital Economy: Thing, Education, Platform, Global Economy, abbreviated as TEPGE research theme. © 2022 IEEE.

Delving into Decision-based Black-box Attacks on Semantic Segmentation

Semantic segmentation is a fundamental visual task that finds extensive deployment in applications with security-sensitive considerations. Nonetheless, recent work illustrates the adversarial vulnerability of semantic segmentation models to white-box attacks. However, its adversarial robustness against black-box attacks has not been fully explored. In this paper, we present the first exploration of black-box decision-based attacks on semantic segmentation. First, we analyze the challenges that semantic segmentation brings to decision-based attacks through the case study. Then, to address these challenges, we first propose a decision-based attack on semantic segmentation, called Discrete Linear Attack (DLA). Based on random search and proxy index, we utilize the discrete linear noises for perturbation exploration and calibration to achieve efficient attack efficiency. We conduct adversarial robustness evaluation on 5 models from Cityscapes and ADE20K under 8 attacks. DLA shows its formidable power on Cityscapes by dramatically reducing PSPNet’s mIoU from an impressive 77.83% to a mere 2.14% with just 50 queries. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Recently, due to the coronavirus era, we have a heightened need for fast and accurate diagnostics. To meet these requirements, there are many methods such as polymerase chain reaction, but they also require about from a few hours to a day. In contrast, a three-dimensional model of cells can be observed by simply extracting cells and photographing them with digital holographic microscopy, and in the case of diseases that can be classified b y t he shape of cells, diagnosis i s possible in a few minutes. However, there are precise focal issues and noise in the high-frequency domain, respectively. Therefore, to resolve these issues, we propose an optimization method by modifying the threshold value of the high variance pixel averaging method in digital holographic microscopy.
