The technological advancements in the field of agriculture have increased to a great extent in recent years, and many techniques have evolved from other techniques. Some methods are improved or upgraded from the previous versions by implementing a new model or using better hardware devices. This has been helpful for the farmers in increasing crop productivity, and the life expectancy of crops has also increased as the diseases inside or outside the crops can be detected much earlier, and learning at an early stage helps prevent other crops. In this paper, we have presented a study where many varieties of fruits and vegetables have been taken to determine which method was used for a particular crop. By analyzing the various works carried out by the authors, it was inferred that most of the works revolved around image processing and hyperspectral imaging. Due to this, we had also included most of the papers, particularly as the models and hardware components used were much better than other works. Then, a comparative study was done where different fruits and vegetables highlighted the two main areas: the method used and the accuracy obtained. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Multi-Head Explainer: A General Framework to Improve Explainability in CNNs and Transformers

In this study, we introduce the Multi-Head Explainer (MHEX), a versatile and modular framework that enhances both the explainability and accuracy of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Transformer-based models. MHEX consists of three core components: an Attention Gate that dynamically highlights task-relevant features, Deep Supervision that guides early layers to capture fine-grained details pertinent to the target class, and an Equivalent Matrix that unifies refined local and global representations to generate comprehensive saliency maps. Our approach demonstrates superior compatibility, enabling effortless integration into existing residual networks like ResNet and Transformer architectures such as BERT with minimal modifications. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets in medical imaging and text classification show that MHEX not only improves classification accuracy but also produces highly interpretable and detailed saliency scores. © 2025, CC BY.

CESFusion: Cross-Frequency Enhanced Spatial—Spectral Fusion Network for Hyperspectral and Multispectral Image Fusion

The fusion of hyperspectral and multispectral images (MSIs) involves integrating a high spectral resolution hyperspectral image (HSI) and a high spatial resolution MSI to generate an HSI with high-resolution HSI (HR-HSI). Existing HSI-MSI fusion methods primarily focus on information fusion within the spatial domain;however, few solutions have explored the employment of frequency analysis to enhance spatial resolution, limiting their capability for global perception. In this article, we propose an efficient and novel paradigm for HSI-MSI fusion through the cross-frequency enhanced spatial-spectral fusion network, named CESFusion, exploring the complementary fusion of information between the spatial and frequency domains. Specifically, we first present the cross-frequency fusion module (CFFM) to perform global analysis through the Fourier transform (FT) and effectively integrate and enhance the frequency domain information from both HSI and MSI. Subsequently, we propose the spectral modeling module (SpeMM) based on a state space model (SMM) to capture long-range spectral dependencies with linear complexity, and integrate it with the spatial residual block-based module (SRM) for joint spatial-spectral feature extraction. Finally, to enable sufficient interaction between the spatial and frequency domains, we adopt the cross-domain interaction module (CDIM), capturing and integrating complementary information from both domains. Moreover, a frequency-based loss function is purposely designed to further improve the restoration of global information. Extensive experiments conducted on both synthetic and real datasets demonstrate the superiority of our CESFusion, as evidenced by both quantitative and qualitative evaluation results. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

Optimizing power allocation for URLLCD2D in 5G networks with Rician fading channel

The rapid evolution of wireless technologies within the 5G network brings significant challenges in managing the increased connectivity and traffic of mobile devices. This enhanced connectivity brings challenges for base stations, which must handle increased traffic and efficiently serve a growing number of mobile devices. One of the key solutions to address these challenges is integrating device-to-device (D2D) communication with ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC). This study examines the impact of the Rician fading channel on the performance of D2D communication under URLLC. It addresses the critical problem of optimizing power allocation to maximize the minimum data rate in D2D communication. A significant challenge arises due to interference issues, as the problem of maximizing the minimum data rate is non-convex, which leads to high computational complexity. This complexity makes it difficult to derive optimal solutions efficiently. To address this challenge, we introduce an algorithm that is based on derivatives to find the optimal power allocation. Comparisons are made with the branch and bound (B&B) algorithm, heuristic algorithm, and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Our proposed algorithm improves power allocation performance and also achieves faster execution with lower computational complexity compared to the B&B, PSO, and heuristic algorithms. Travel demand forecasting (TDF) is a crucial task in route planning, navigation, and scheduling. However, developing models for such tasks requires significant amount of order data, which can pose privacy concerns for users. Federated learning (FL) has addressed privacy concerns related to TDF. However, previous works only consider the data of a single factor to train the model, resulting in a less precise assessment of the demand for on-demand ride services. Moreover, non-independent and identically distributed ( non-IID) data across clients also brings a challenge in personalizing models for TDF tasks when applying FL directly. In this work, a privacy-preserving short-term TDF scheme for non-IID data is proposed to deal with these problems. Our approach analyzes the correlation between various potential influencing factors and travel demand and summarizes the input variables of the FL model to achieve accurate TDF prediction with privacy preservation. Additionally, we provide each client with a personalized model trained on independent and identically distributed (IID) data to compensate for local model weight divergence. Finally, experiments are conducted on the 2022 Shanghai data of the Didi platform as a use case, and the results demonstrate that our scheme effectively improves the model's performance. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Conventional imaging devices often struggle to produce high-dynamic-range (HDR) images that accurately represent natural scenes. To overcome this limitation, multi-exposure image fusion (MEF) techniques have been introduced as a viable solution. Existing MEF approaches aim to enhance performance by optimizing or searching architectures. However, they face challenges in precise feature extraction and scene reconstruction, leading to distortion in the fused images. Additionally, most methods do not adequately address luminance variations across different image regions, which may result in the loss of essential details. To address these challenges, we present a novel luminance-aware MEF framework that integrates text-correlation priors (LarTap). By embedding textual information into fusion process, the proposed framework enhances content extraction and comprehension. Specifically, it consist of two key components: the text-image correlation network (N1) and the multi-exposure fusion network (N2). First, N1 performs correlation training to achieve a holistic alignment between text and image pairs. Its iterative vision encoders (VEs) generate text-correlated prior knowledge to facilitate the fusion process in N2. Second, N2 leverages these priors for scene reconstruction and dynamically adjusts luminance based on comparative perception. Extensive experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that LarTap outperforms state-of-the-art methods. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Optimizing Monitoring Utility of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Considering Adverse Effects

For Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) monitoring tasks, capturing high quality images of target objects is important for subsequent recognition. Concerning the problem, many prior works study placement/trajectory planning for UAVs to maximize the quality of captured images. However, all of them overlook a fact that UAV monitoring may cause a huge risk/annoyance on living objects. In this paper, we investigate the novel problem of oPtimizing unmanned aErial vehicles plAcement by Considering both monitoring utility and adverse Effects (PEACE). We propose an approach to solve PEACE, which is proved to be NP-hard. Overall, our approach achieves a 1-1/e- approximation ratio. First, we approximate the original problem of PEACE as a classical problem of Monotone Submodular function Maximization under a Uniform Matroid constraint (MSMUM) with a controlled gap. Then, for MSMUM, we propose a combination of algorithms achieving a 1-1/e approximation and O(n\log n) time complexity considering the correlation among the UAV monitoring strategies. The proposed algorithms outperform existing algorithms for MSMUM through theoretical analysis and experimental results. Extensive simulations and field experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, achieving performance gains of 9.0% to 1434.5% compared to existing methods. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Diversified caching algorithm with cooperation between edge servers

Edge computing makes up for the high latency of the central cloud network by deploying server resources in close proximity to users. The storage and other resources configured by edge servers are limited, and a reasonable cache replacement strategy is conducive to improving the cache hit ratio of edge services, thereby reducing service latency and enhancing service quality. The spatiotemporal correlation of user service request distribution brings opportunities and challenges to edge service caching. The collaboration between edge servers is often ignored in the existing research work for caching decisions, which can easily lead to a low edge cache hit rate, thereby reducing the efficiency of edge resource use and service quality. Therefore, this article proposes a diversified caching method to ensure the diversity of edge cache services, utilizing inter-server collaboration to enhance the cache hit rate. After the service request reaches the server, if it misses, the proposed algorithm will judge whether the neighbor node can provide services through the cache information of the neighbor node, and then the server and the neighbor node jointly decide how to cache the service. At the same time, the performance of the proposed diversified caching method is evaluated through a large number of simulation experiments, and the experimental results show that the proposed method can improve the cache hit rate by 27.01–37.43%, reduce the average service delay by 25.57–30.68%, and with the change of the scale of the edge computing platform, the proposed method can maintain good performance. © 2025 Sang et al.

Analysis of converting -circuit into -circuit

A $\mathfrak{C^{*}}$ -circuit, which was proposed in Asiacypt 2022 by Huang and Sun (Advances in cryptology – ASIACRYPT 2022, pp. 614–644, 2022), can directly perform calculations with the existing quantum states, thereby reducing the use of quantum resources in quantum logic synthesis. We theoretically prove how to convert a $\mathfrak{C^{0}}$ -circuit into the corresponding $\mathfrak{C^{*}}$ -circuit through two lemmas and one theorem. The first lemma proves the interchangeability of CNOT gates and NOT gates by using the equivalence of quantum circuits. The second lemma proves that adding CNOT gates to the front of a quantum circuit whose initial states are all $|0\rangle $ s will not change the output states of the circuit. The theorem is used to describe what kind of $\mathfrak{C^{0}}$ -circuit can be transformed into $\mathfrak{C^{*}}$ -circuit, and the correctness of this transformation is proved. Our work will provide a theoretical basis for converting $\mathfrak{C^{0}}$ -circuit to $\mathfrak{C^{*}}$ -circuit. Then applying the theoretical analysis results to the multiplication over $\text{GF}(2^{8})$ , the constructed quantum circuit needs 27 Toffoli gates and 118 CNOT gates, which is 15 fewer Toffoli gates and 43 CNOT gates than the current best result. This shows that the method of constructing quantum circuits by using the conversion of $\mathfrak{C^{0}}$ -circuit to $\mathfrak{C^{*}}$ -circuit is very efficient.

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues transforming workplaces globally, particularly within the Information technology (IT) industry, understanding its impact on IT professionals and computing curricula is crucial. This research builds on joint work from two countries, addressing concerns about AI's increasing influence in IT sector workplaces and its implications for tertiary education. The study focuses on AI technologies such as generative AI (GenAI) and large language models (LLMs). It examines how they are perceived and adopted and their effects on workplace dynamics, task allocation, and human-system interaction. IT professionals, noted as early adopters of AI, offer valuable insights into the interplay between AI and work engagement, highlighting the significant competencies required for digital workplaces. This study employs a dual-method approach, combining a systematic and multi-vocal literature review and qualitative research methods. These included a thematic analysis of a set of 47 interviews conducted between March and May of 2024 with IT professionals in two countries (New Zealand and Sweden). The research aimed to understand the implications for computing students, education curricula, and the assessment of emerging professional competencies. The literature review found insufficient evidence addressing comprehensive AI practice methodologies, highlighting the need to both develop and regulate professional competencies for effective AI integration. Key interview findings revealed diverse levels of GenAI adoption, ranging from individual experimentation to institutional integration. Participants generally expressed positive attitudes toward the technology and were actively pursuing self-learning despite some concerns. The themes emerging from the interviews included AI's role in augmenting human tasks, privacy and security concerns, productivity enhancements, legal and ethical challenges, and the evolving need for new competencies in the workplace.
