Smart vehicle applications play a crucial role in intelligent transportation systems, enabling sensor-equipped vehicles to establish dynamic networks for efficient collection, sharing, and aggregation. This significantly enhances road security and efficiency by transmitting crucial information to traffic authorities. However, partial research on certificateless aggregation signcryption (CLAS) scheme reveals an intriguing phenomenon where each proposed scheme consistently exhibits numerous security vulnerabilities, particularly susceptible to public key replacement attacks. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a blockchain-assisted certificateless aggregation sign-cryption scheme (BACLAS), leveraging blockchain technology to securely store users' public key on a distributed ledger and prevent public key replacement attacks effectively. Furthermore, it is a provably secure communication scheme for real-world Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication while addressing practical security concerns. The BACLAS scheme ensures security in terms of existential unforgeability against adaptive chosen message attacks (EUF-CMA) and indistinguishability against adaptive chosen ciphertext attacks (IND-CCA2) based on the hardness assumption of the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem and computational Diffie-Hellman problem in the random oracle model. The proposed scheme effectively reduces computational costs and time consumption, resulting in a significant reduction of the computation burden ranging from 50.02% to 88.28% compared to other competitive schemes. Moreover, it successfully addresses the key-escrow problem, thereby achieving enhanced security properties. © 2014 IEEE.

In healthcare, accessing diverse and large datasets for machine learning poses challenges due to data privacy concerns. Federated learning (FL) addresses this by training models on decentralized data while preserving privacy. We propose PruneFL, a FL paradigm that leverages model pruning to reduce complexity and enhance efficiency. PruneFL strikes a balance between model accuracy and efficiency by reducing parameters, accelerating convergence, and minimizing communication overhead. Our approach addresses critical FL challenges and demonstrates efficacy in resource-constrained environments like healthcare. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Air quality forecasting is critical for environmental monitoring and public health, and in this study, we propose a hybrid approach utilizing Gooseneck Barnacle Optimization (GBO) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to enhance predictive accuracy. The air quality dataset, comprising pollutant concentrations (CO, NOx, benzene) and meteorological factors (temperature, humidity), is sourced from the UCI Machine Learning Repository. GBO is employed to fine-tune the ANN's hyperparameters (especially the weight and bias), as well as the number of layers, neurons, and activation functions, to improve regression-based forecasting. The GBOANN model achieves a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.562 and a Root Mean Squared Percentage Error (RMSPE) of 5.63%, outperforming other metaheuristic methods like BMO, SSA, DA, MVO, and EMA. This study demonstrates the GBO-ANN model's potential for accurate real-time air quality forecasting, offering a robust, sustainable solution. © 2025 IEEE.

Multi-focus image fusion is a technique that combines multiple out-of-focus images to enhance the overall image quality. It has gained significant attention in recent years, thanks to the advancements in deep learning. However, one of the persistent challenges in this field is the processing of misaligned data, which can negatively impact the fusion results. To overcome this problem, a novel fusion framework with pre-registration is proposed for the fusion of misaligned multi-focus images. For pre-registration, content-aware deep homography estimation is used, which performs transfer learning on a real multi-focus image dataset to adapt to registration under defocused conditions. For fusion, a fusion module with dual-branch feature interaction is utilized to avoid invalid feature fusion and trained on real light field dataset to achieve better fusion performance. Qualitative and quantitative experimental results show that the proposed method has a 2-3 percentage point improvement in multiple evaluation metrics compared to existing advanced registration and fusion methods, and a maximum improvement of 4.83 percentage points in fusion performance when tested independently on the Lytro dataset. Additionally, We find that the value of the Qcv metric is greatly influenced by the alignment status of the input images, leading to its inability to reflect the fusion quality of aligned images. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In the evolving landscape of supply chain management, the integration of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology has marked a significant milestone. This development has led to the emergence of a new system in RFID-based supply chain management, which is intricately linked with the advances in the Internet of Things (IoT). RFID technology employs electromagnetic fields to identify and track tags on objects and revolutionizes the management and tracking of items in the supply chain. However, the public communication among RFID tags, RFID readers, and supply chain infrastructure predominantly escalates security and privacy challenges. Several authentication protocols have been proposed to overcome these challenges. However, the vulnerability of most proposed protocols to numerous security attacks renders them inefficient. Therefore, to address these crucial challenges, we devised an RFID-based authentication protocol for supply chain management systems. The incorporation of a physically unclonable function (PUF) into the protocol fortifies the system against physical tampering attacks. To validate the security and effectiveness of the devised protocol, both informal and formal security analysis are conducted. The formal security analysis is conducted using the widely used random oracle model. The informal security analysis reveals that the devised protocol provides enhanced and efficient security features. Furthermore, we perform a comparative analysis with related protocols, focusing on critical performance metrics like communication cost, computation cost, and overall security features. The results of the comparative analysis are promising, indicating a substantial 30.92% reduction in computational cost and a 23.98% reduction in communication cost in comparison to related protocols, thus highlighting the protocol’s superior performance and resource efficiency. © 2014 IEEE.

In the fast-evolving artificial intelligence era, the intersection of natural language processing and financial analysis has attracted significant attention, primarily due to its potential to provide valuable insights into financial market behavior. Sentiment analysis of financial news articles is a crucial aspect of this intersection, providing cues about market sentiment that may affect stock price dynamics. Traditional sentiment analysis methods often rely on rules or machine learning algorithms trained on labeled datasets, but these methods face challenges in capturing the context within the text. This paper proposes a framework that incorporates prompt engineering strategies, including a novel Domain Knowledge Chain-of-Thought (DK-CoT) strategy, integrating domain-specific financial knowledge with chain-of-thought reasoning, designed to leverage and enhance the performance of large language models (LLMs) in financial news sentiment analysis. DK-CoT has been compared with various prompt engineering techniques, including zero-shot, few-shot, and chain-of-thought, as well as other benchmark models like BERT and RoBERTa. Through comprehensive experiments and evaluations, we introduce the weighted F1 score as a more practical metric, emphasizing the disproportionate impact of negative news on financial markets, which better reflects real-world financial dynamics, as negative sentiments often lead to more significant market reactions than positive or neutral sentiments. Experimental results have shown that DK-CoT adopted in an LLM called GLM is effective in improving the performance and reliability of financial news sentiment analysis. Our findings provide insights into optimal prompt designs and highlight the importance of incorporating financial knowledge to uplift LLM performance while reducing the need for extensive computational resources and fine-tuning. © The Author(s) 2025.

Metamorphic testing (MT) is an effective software quality assurance method;it uses metamorphic relations (MRs) to examine the inputs and outputs of multiple test cases. Metamorphic exploration (ME) and metamorphic robustness testing (MRT) are advanced additions to the MT literature: ME can enable better understanding, and thus testing, of systems;MRT can test software robustness without an oracle. Metamorphic relation patterns (MRPs) are abstractions or templates for multiple concrete MRs. The performance of MT/ME/MRT relies on the quality of MRs, but the identification of MRs is often a manual task requiring some knowledge of MRPs, creative thinking and a good understanding of the system. In other words, the effective identification of MRs remains a challenge and requires further study. In this paper, we propose formal definitions to describe the relationship between multiple MRPs in order to classify them. We also identify a series of new MRPs and propose a new MT framework that can guide the identification and application of MRPs. Based on our definitions, we present the notion of MRP family trees and further propose two trees by classifying previously published MRPs and our proposed MRPs, in order to make it easier for users to find their target MRPs for reuse, reference or inference. Finally, we report on case studies using the MRPs and our framework to guide the identification of MRs for MT/ME/MRT and successfully detect multiple violations. © 2025 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Personalized Federated Learning (pFL) is among the most popular tasks in distributed deep learning, which compensates for mutual knowledge and enables device-specific model personalization. However, the effectiveness of pFL is severely impeded by challenges on fairness and significant communication overhead, where devices holding essential samples have to devote extensive resources for model training. To address these issues, we introduce the Fair and Communication-Efficient Personalized Federated Learning (FCE-PFL) framework, which harmonizes performance and device fairness while maintaining communication costs. Based on the Dempster-Shafer Theory, FCE-PFL employs assistance and contribution metrics to quantify the auxiliary information a client receives and provides. Then FCE-PFL balances and adjusts the involvement of devices in each training iteration, so as to facilitate fair training by constraining the maximum resource consumption per device and reduce the overall communication overhead. Our framework has been proven to be superior to existing methods in accuracy through rigorous experiments on the CIFAR10 and CIFAR100 datasets, demonstrating its potential as a fair and efficient pFL solution. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

With the continuous development of Internet of Things (IoT), significant value has been generated, but numerous challenges remain. Recommender systems, as an effective tool to optimize IoT services, can significantly enhance user experience. However, the IoT’s demands for low latency and high-computational load make it difficult for traditional recommender systems to adapt. Moreover, traditional approaches often overlook the dynamic nature of user preferences, which are crucial for determining user satisfaction with IoT services. To address these issues, we propose a novel method called MoreGCN, which quantifies the temporal evolution of user preferences and integrates user interest modeling to accurately match similar users. This approach guides the learning of convolutional networks during the recommendation process. Deployed within a distributed computing framework and combined with meta computing, MoreGCN significantly improves computational efficiency and recommendation accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate that, across three benchmark datasets, MoreGCN consistently outperforms several existing state-of-the-art methods in terms of performance. © 2014 IEEE.
