Data capture is important for some critical network applications, such as network diagnosis and criminal investigation. In multi-channel wireless networks, the fundamental challenge for data capture is how to assign operation channels to wireless sniffers. The existing approaches make some impractical assumptions, such as the prior knowledge on network traffic and the perfect conditions of data capture. In this paper, we relax these assumptions and investigate the sniffer-channel assignment problem in multi-hop scenarios. Especially, sniffer redundancy deployment is discussed, which enables multiple sniffers to monitor one traffic. This problem is formulated as a combinatorial multi-arm bandit (MAB) problem, and a cooperative distribute learning policy is proposed. We analyze the regret of our policy in theory, and validate its effectiveness through numerical simulations.

In this paper, we propose an intra-task dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) scheduling technique for energy reduction of hard real-time systems. Different from previous works, we incorporate the leakage-temperature dependency in our system model and proposes a novel intra-task DVS scheduling technique to reduce the overall energy consumption. The experimental result shows that significant energy reduction is achieved using the proposed approach in comparison to the existing approach.

Multiple cores are preferred to meet the ever increasing computation demand of embedded systems. A multi-core system is comm.nication intensive with on-chip wire delays and on-chip interconnects accounting for half the dynamic power dissipation. A three-dimensional (3D) stacking of dies enables low intra-chip distances for signal transmission and helps to overcome the interconnect bottleneck of multi-core systems. The 3D integration by through silicon via (TSV) can significantly improve memory-logic comm.nication bandwidth of multi-core systems. However, the 3D multi-core system has poor heat removal capability due to position of the heat-sink. In this paper, we made a study on the thermal profile of DRAM memory layers of 3-D multi-core system. In this study, workloads are distributed to memory layers based on its thermal efficiency such that work load of heavier applications is allocated to the memory layer having highest thermal efficiency and those of lighter applications is allocated to the memory layer with lower thermal efficiency. Experimental result shows that with selective work load distribution, the average peak temperature of the 3D multi-core system is reduced than randomly allocated work load to the memory layers. A memory controller could be designed for run-time distribution of work load to the memory layers which will be addressed in the future work.

The testing of web services must be done in a completely automated manner when it takes place on-the-fly due to third-party services are dynamically composed to. We present an approach that uses algebraic specification to make this possible. Test data is generated from a formal specification and then used to construct and submit service requests. Test results are then extracted and checked against the specification. All these are done automatically, as required. We present ASSAT (Algebraic Specification-Based Service Automated Testing), a prototype tool that performs these tasks and demonstrate its utility by applying it to Amazon Web Services, a real-life industrial example.

The pair of scaling constants of lifting scheme for DWT computation are perfect inverse of each other while those of flipping scheme are not perfect inverse of each other. However, flipping-scheme is preferred over the lifting-scheme for area-delay efficient hardware implementation of 2-D DWT due to its smaller critical-path. In this paper we present critical-path analysis of lifting and flipping schemes and propose a low-complexity data-path for lifting based DWT. We have shown that the critical-path delay (CPD) of lifting DWT is higher by only 2 full-adder (FA) delay than that of flipping DWT. Moreover, due to the saving of multipliers, lifting scheme offers a better area delay efficient structure than the flipping scheme for parallel realization of 2-D DWT. In this paper, we propose efficient realization of both lifting and flipping DWT. Compared with the best of the available flipping-based 2-D DWT structure, the proposed lifting-based and flipping-based structures for block-size 16 involve 74% less and 73% less area-delay-product (ADP), and offer nearly 6.38 and 6.72 times higher throughput, respectively. Compared with similar lifting based existing design, the proposed lifting-based structure involves 15.38% less ADP for the same block-size.

Filter bank multicarrier with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC-OQAM) signaling offers almost the full spectral efficiency (one complex symbol per unit area in the time-frequency plane) for long data packets. However, because of the ramp-up and ramp-down of the waveform at the beginning and the end of each packet, its spectral efficiency can drop significantly in short packets/data bursts. In this paper, we propose a novel method that shortens the ramp-up and ramp-down of FBMC-OQAM signals by appending a few virtual symbols at the beginning and the end of each packet and subsequently applying a time window. Simulation results show that the proposed method has a much improved error vector magnitude (EVM) and similar out-of-band (OOB) emission performance, when compared with a truncation method through a similar window, but without transmitting virtual symbols.

In this paper, we propose a QR decomposition based channel equalizer in visible light comm.nication (VLC) systems for indoor broadband wireless access to overcome the bandwidth limitation of phosphor-coated white light emitting diodes (LEDs). The effectiveness of the proposed QR decomposition based channel equalizer is experimentally investigated in a 400-Mb/s VLC system over 1.6-m air transmission with discrete multi-tones (DMT) modulations and discrete Fourier transform (DFT) spreading. Compared with conventional channel equalizers for DMT modulations, the QR decomposition based channel equalizer can combat the limited bandwidth of phosphor-coated white LEDs and achieve much better transmission performances.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) relies on speckle image formation by coherent sensing of photons diffracted from a broadband laser source incident on tissues. Its non-ionizing nature and tissue specific speckle appearance has leveraged rapid clinical translation for non-invasive high-resolution in situ imaging of critical organs and tissue viz. coronary vessels, healing wounds, retina and choroid. However the stochastic nature of speckles introduces inter- and intra-observer reporting variability challenges. This paper proposes a deep neural network (DNN) based architecture for unsupervised learning of speckle representations in swept-source OCT using denoising auto-encoders (DAE) and supervised learning of tissue specifics using stacked DAEs for histologically characterizing healthy skin and healing wounds with the aim of reducing clinical reporting variability. Performance of our deep learning based tissue characterization method in comparison with conventional histology of healthy and wounded mice skin strongly advocates its use for in situ histology of live tissues.

In this paper, an effective block compressed sensing algorithm based on improved noise variance estimation method is proposed for hyperspectral images. The reconstruction process adopts the iterative projected Landweber and soft-thresholding bivariate shrinkage image denoising based on three-dimensional wavelet transform. The improved noise variance estimation method can more effectively remove noise and achieve better image reconstruction quality. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm significantly outperform several state-of-the-art compressed sensing algorithms.

Summary form only given. In this paper, we propose an effective quantized block compressed sensing algorithm using projected Landweber based on vicariate shrinkage (BCS PL-BS) for natural images. Moreover, an improved noise variance estimation method is presented by using soft-thresholding vicariate shrinkage model for wavelet-based image demising, which can more effectively estimate the noise variance and achieve better image reconstruction quality. Experimental results demonstrate that the reconstruction performances of the proposed algorithm outperform those of several state-of-the-art compressed sensing algorithms.
