In this paper, a small size ultrawideband (UWB) planar antenna is proposed. This antenna is a U-shaped monopole antenna which is fed using a microstrip line feeder. The size of the antenna has been miniaturized by optimizing the dimensions of the U-shaped radiator and the ground plane. The final size of the antenna after optimization of its dimensions is 12mm×18mm×1.6mm. The proposed antenna is simulated, fabricated, and its performance is tested while satisfactory performance is achieved. The comparison between the simulation and measurement results shows good agreement.

In this paper, a highly compact symmetrical planar ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with dual band-notched at the bands of the wireless local area network (WLAN) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) is presented. The size of the antenna is strictly miniaturized both physically and electrically. The band notching of WLAN and WiMAX is achieved through the etching of two slots in the ground plane and the radiating patch respectively. Based on the symmetry of the antenna, additional size reduction is achieved by using only the half of the proposed antenna, while the antenna still does the same function except some minor changes in the band notching characteristics which can be optimized. The physical size of the antenna after reduction is 6.9×18 mm 2 which represents an electrical size of O.07λ 0 X0.19λ 0 at the lowest frequency of operation. The antenna is properly matched to 50-ohm input resistance over the frequency band from 3.2-12 GHz. However, the frequency bands 3.4-3.8 GHz and 5.2-5.8 GHz are notched to mitigate the interference with WiMAX and WLAN technologies. The performance of the proposed full size and reduced size antennas is compared showing that the reduced size antenna has the same performance of the full size antenna.

R-Vivaldi: Distance range-aware IP network coordinate system

The experience showed that the predicted delay's accuracy was improved when the nodes were chosen around the given delay as anchors. Thus a distance range-aware IP network coordinate system(R-Vivaldi) was proposed. The main idea was: according to the approximate range of the predicted delay, the anchors were re-selected in the radius area of the approximate range to compute the new range. In accordance with the above process, the coordinate system constantly iterated the network distance and dynamically chose anchors until the prediction accuracy meet the requirement. Experiments show that the approach can not only effectively improve the prediction accuracy of delay but also overcome inconsistencies of the prediction accuracy to a certain extent.

There are various stochastic delay contaminations in the IP networks, which have a great impact on the performance of IP network coordinates system in terms of the delay prediction accuracy and the coordinate stability. Here, from the perspective of keeping the statistical characteristic of delay without a loss and suppressing the abnormal delay jitter, two contamination mitigation methods were proposed respectively, i. e., t-Filter and Δ-Filter. Through the PlanetLab datasets, compared with MP-Filter, the simulation results show that both t-Filter and Δ-Filter can enhance the delay prediction accuracy, the system stability and the system convergence in the more effective methods.

The analytical expression for the MGF (Moment Generating Function) of the channel capacity in log-normal fading environment is derived. Using MGF, the closed form expression for higher order moments of channel capacity are computed as a rapidly convergent infinite series. Explicit expression for error and its upper bound resulting on account of truncation of series are obtained. Numerical results based on truncated infinite series are found to be in excellent agreement with those based on Monte Carlo simulation and Gauss Hermite method. Statistical measures like coefficient of variation, skewness and kurtosis are obtained for different values of shadowing level over a range of practical interest. It is found on the basis of skewness and kurtosis that gaussian approximation for channel capacity in log-normal fading environment is not in general valid over the entire range of dBspread.

Wireless sensor networks are a family of networks in wireless comm.nication system and have the potential to become significant subsystem of engineering applications. In view of the fact that the sensor nodes in wireless sensor networks are typically irreplaceable, this type of network should operate with minimum possible energy in order to improve overall energy efficiency. Therefore, the protocols and algorithms developed for sensor networks must incorporate energy consumption as the highest priority optimization goal. Since the base station in sensor networks is usually a node with high processing power, high storage capacity and the battery used can be rechargeable, the base station can be utilized to collect data from each sensor node in the sensing area by moving closer to the transmitting node. In this paper, we proposed an energy-efficient protocol for the movement of mobile base station using particle swarm optimization (PSO) method in wireless sensor networks. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protocol can improve the network lifetime, data delivery and energy consumption compared to existing energy-efficient protocols developed for this network. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper developed a full three-dimensional (3-D) statistical simulation approach to investigate Fin-width Line Edge Roughness (LER) effect on the FinFETs performance. The line edge roughness is introduced by Matlab program, and then the intrinsic parameter fluctuations at fixed LER parameters are studied in carefully designed simulation experiments. The result shows that Fin-width LER causes a dramatic shift and fluctuations in threshold voltage. The simulation results also imply that the velocity saturation effect may come into effect even under low drain voltage due to LER effect. © 2010 IEEE.
