Faceted search is a new concept in search engines for implementing a feature of direct search queries using guided navigation among the search results. In this concept, the search results are grouped and ranked under facets that guide a user on the dimensions through which the search results can be viewed. It has been implemented on web based query systems by integrating with semantic search engines (like Google, Yahoo and Bing). However, there is a significant opportunity of implementing faceted search in business intelligence (BI) frameworks to include direct searching features through BI dashboards and custom reporting interfaces. In this paper, a technology positioning map for implementing faceted search in BI framework on cloud computing has been presented. BI on the cloud is based on massively parallel processing of hardware and database resources and an XML based service oriented architecture in which the data warehouses and OLAP cubes are formed using XML data files. The architecture has been expanded to include a DOM parser and a DTD mapping system that will parse the 2D XML views (pulled from cubes formed by many-to-many XML files) and extract the database fields to be stored in a facet repository as per pre-established metadata rules. Whenever an OLAP query is invoked by a user (using a decision map), a query coordinator will fetch the relevant 2D OLAP views and group them under facets fetched from the facet repository taking the services of a metadata coordinator. The user can make use of the facets to create direct queries, generate the targeted dashboards, and hence reduce searching time. © 2013 IEEE.

The most widely available high performance platforms today are multilevel clusters of multicores. The Glasgow Haskell Compiler (GHC) provides a number of parallel Haskell implementations targeting different parallel architectures. In particular, GHC-SMP supports shared memory, and GHC-GUM supports distributed memory machines. Both implementations use different, but related, runtime environment (RTE) mechanisms. Good performance results can be achieved on shared memory architectures and on networks individually. However, a combination of both, for networks of multicores, is lacking. We present the design and implementation of a new parallel Haskell RTE implementation, GUMSMP, which exploits hierarchical platforms more effectively. It is designed to efficiently combine distributed memory parallelism, using a virtual shared heap over a cluster, with low-overhead shared memory parallelism on the multicores. Key design objectives for realising this system are: asymmetric load balance, effective latency hiding, and mostly passive load distribution. We show that the automatic hierarchical load distribution policies must be carefully tuned to obtain good performance, showing the impact of several policies, including work pre-fetching and favouring inter-node work *** present the initial performance results for this implementation, demonstrating the good scalability of a set of 8 benchmarks on up to 100 cores, and show performance gains of up to 20% compared to GHC-GUM. With the increasing popularity of virtual machine monitoring (VMM) technologies, performance variability among collocated virtual machines (VMs) can easily become a severe scalability issue. Particularly, it becomes a necessary for administrative team to control the performance degradation level in a shared environment when multiple I/O-intensive applications simultaneously request their I/O operations [1]. Nevertheless, adding several logical layers between the running applications and the physical storage system, as seen in contemporary virtualized storage devices, makes it considerably difficult to build a low overhead controlling mechanism for such systems (while each VM may running a separate operating system instance) [2]. In this paper, we propose a strategy based on control theory for managing the performance of several I/O requests, such as mean response times and read/write throughput in a consolidated environment where multiple virtual services can share access to a storage system. This scheme uses an approach for measuring the characterization of read/write performance attributes of each virtual services and also takes into account the run-time quality of service enforcement levels requested by them. This is formulated as an optimization problem where a reward function is defined to reduce the overall QoS violation incidents among all consolidated virtual services. Performance evaluation is carried out by comparing the proposed solution with the default embedded Linux controller across a range of emulated application workloads in scenarios with multiple consolidated virtual containers. The results confirm that the proposed solution can reduce the overall QoS violation incident rates in scenarios in which the platform operates at a significant traffic load comparing to the default policy in LXC engine. © 2019 IEEE.

This is a comment on the article "A Quantum Algorithm for the Hamiltonian NAND Tree" by Edward Farhi, Jeffrey Goldstone, and Sam Gutmann, Theory of computing 4 (2008) 169–190. That paper gave a quantum algorithm for evaluating NAND trees with running time O(√N) in the Hamiltonian query model. In this note, we point out that their algorithm can be converted into an algorithm using N1/2+o(1) queries in the conventional (discrete) quantum query model. © 2009 Andrew M. Server consolidation, an application form of virtualization technology, consolidates multiple physical servers into a single or fewer real machines. It results in higher resource utilization and smaller space consumption and is considered as a tendency for enterprise application deployment. Some researches were carried for evaluating its static performance. However, few researches were done on the dynamic performance. Here, we present VSCBenchmark for evaluating the dynamic performance of server consolidation, such as creating and killing the VMs under different workload. Besides evaluating the performance change under different application scenarios, the benchmark also simplifies the construction and configuration of testing scenarios as much as possible. In this paper, a general overview of VSCBenchmark and its implementation are introduced. We also present some experimental results and characterize the dynamic performance of Xen and OpenVZ using VSCBenchmark. © ACM 2008.

Stocks represent the ownership stake in a company and reflect its financial performance and contributions to the economy. Company stocks are divided into shares. Analysing stock market decisions is a complex process involving factors such as price trends, market demand, company stability, rumours, brand reputation, and venture capital. It is crucial to have access to vital information that allows investors to understand and assess the associated risks. While various methods like technical analysis, time series analysis, and statistical analysis attempt to predict stock prices, none of these methods are consistently reliable. Therefore, artificial neural networks, a branch of Artificial Intelligence, offer a promising approach to identify both known and hidden patterns in data. The process involves two phases: training and prediction. The Backpropagation algorithm is utilized for the training session, while a Multilayer Feedforward Network serves as the model for price prediction. This forecasting is based on multiple parameters derived from company data. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the proliferation of Internet and Intranet,the distributed storage systems have received a lot of attention. These systems span a large number of machines and store huge amount of data for a lot of *** the distributed storage systems,a row can be directly accessed using a row *** concentrate on a problem of efficient processing of queries whose predicate is on a column but not a row *** this paper,we present a cache management technique,called DICE which maintains query results of range queries to support the next range *** accelerate the search time of the cached query results,we use modified Interval Ski *** addition,we devise a novel cache replacement policy since DICE maintains an interval rather than a data *** our cache replacement policy considers the properties of intervals,our proposed technique is more efficient than traditional buffer replacement *** experimental result demonstrates the efficiency of our proposed technique.

The data delivery in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks which is based on the infrastructure-less vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, is sensitive to the traffic flows along the roads. However, the traffic flow may be interrupted by the traffic control system, and a gap appears to block the data delivery along the traffic flow. We term it as a traffic hole problem, which will drastically affect the data delivery along each road. For mitigating the problem, we investigate the signal operations at the intersections to adjust the traffic flows moving into the roads. © 2012 Authors.
