Cloud computing is a promising service architecture that enables a data owner to share data in an economic and efficient manner. To ensure data privacy, a data owner will generate the ciphertext of the data before outsourcing. Attribute-based encryption provides an elegant solution for a data owner to enforce fine-grained access control on the data to be outsourced. However, ABE cannot support ciphertext transformation when needing to share the underlying data with a public-key infrastructure (PKI) user further. In addition, an untrusted cloud server may return random ciphertexts to the PKI user to save expensive computational costs of ciphertext transformation. To address above issues, we introduce a novel cryptographic primitive namely verifiable and hybrid attribute-based proxy re-encryption (VHABPRE). VHABPRE provides a transformation mechanism that re-encrypts an ABE ciphertext to a PKI-based public key encryption (PKE) ciphertext such that the PKI user can access the underlying data, meanwhile this PKI user can ensure the validation of the transformed ciphertext. By leveraging a key blinding technique and computing the commitment of the data, we construct two VHABPRE schemes to achieve flexible data sharing. We give formal security proofs and comprehensive performance evaluation to show the security and efficiency of the VHABPRE schemes. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Uncertainty-Aware Pedestrian Trajectory Prediction via Distributional Diffusion

Tremendous efforts have been put forth on predicting pedestrian trajectory with generative models to accommodate uncertainty and multi-modality in human behaviors. An individual’s inherent uncertainty, e.g., change of destination, can be masked by complex patterns resulting from the movements of interacting pedestrians. However, latent variable-based generative models often entangle such uncertainty with complexity, leading to limited either latent expressivity or predictive diversity. In this work, we propose to separately model these two factors by implicitly deriving a flexible latent representation to capture intricate pedestrian movements, while integrating predictive uncertainty of individuals with explicit bivariate Gaussian mixture densities over their future locations. More specifically, we present a model-agnostic uncertainty-aware pedestrian trajectory prediction framework, parameterizing sufficient statistics for the mixture of Gaussians that jointly comprise the multi-modal trajectories. We further estimate these parameters of interest by approximating a denoising process that progressively recovers pedestrian movements from noise. Unlike previous studies, we translate the predictive stochasticity to explicit distributions, allowing it to readily generate plausible future trajectories indicating individuals’ self-uncertainty. Moreover, our framework is compatible with different neural net architectures. We empirically show the performance gains over state-of-the-art even with lighter backbones, across most scenes on two public benchmarks. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Metaverse is an immersive, seamless, interactive, comprehensive virtual world, as well as a replication, extension, and transcendence of the real world. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled mobile edge computing (MEC) is becoming a key technology for ubiquitous Metaverse services. To enhance network resource utilization, we introduce dual connectivity (DC) technologies in UAV-enabled MEC, which increases the time complexity associated with resource management. Considering the specific features of DC communication channels, we propose a UAV-assisted Metaverse rendering problem to enhance the Metaverse service experience and reduce the energy cost of edge devices. To solve the rendering problem with low complexity, we propose a diffusion model-based Metaverse rendering algorithm, where a novel diffusion model is used to generate integer rendering decisions with the aid of the gradient provided by the model-based Metaverse rendering problem. Moreover, with the given rendering decisions, the communication and computation resource allocation results are derived by the model-based optimization method. Finally, we conduct extensive simulation experiments based on real-world datasets. Comprehensive simulation results demonstrate that the diffusion model-based Metaverse rendering algorithm can reduce the Metaverse frame rendering time and improve user experience.

SFDA-rPPG: Source-Free Domain Adaptive Remote Physiological Measurement with Spatio-Temporal Consistency

Remote Photoplethysmography (rPPG) is a non-contact method that uses facial video to predict changes in blood volume, enabling physiological metrics measurement. Traditional rPPG models often struggle with poor generalization capacity in unseen domains. Current solutions to this problem is to improve its generalization in the target domain through Domain Generalization (DG) or Domain Adaptation (DA). However, both traditional methods require access to both source domain data and target domain data, which cannot be implemented in scenarios with limited access to source data, and another issue is the privacy of accessing source domain data. In this paper, we propose the first Source-free Domain Adaptation benchmark for rPPG measurement (SFDA-rPPG), which overcomes these limitations by enabling effective domain adaptation without access to source domain data. Our framework incorporates a Three-Branch Spatio-Temporal Consistency Network (TSTC-Net) to enhance feature consistency across domains. Furthermore, we propose a new rPPG distribution alignment loss based on the Frequency-domain Wasserstein Distance (FWD), which leverages optimal transport to align power spectrum distributions across domains effectively and further enforces the alignment of the three branches. Extensive cross-domain experiments and ablation studies demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method in source-free domain adaptation settings. Our findings highlight the significant contribution of the proposed FWD loss for distributional alignment, providing a valuable reference for future research and applications. Various algorithms of traditional visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) can well match with static scenes, but mismatches will occur in dynamic scenes, which makes the positioning and mapping of the SLAM system produce large errors. Therefore, this paper proposed a visual odometry algorithm based on semantic feature points, which can improve the positioning accuracy in dynamic scenes. The algorithm combined semantic information to detect dynamic objects, and then detects and eliminates dynamic feature points. This paper conducted an extensive evaluation of the system and compared it with ORB-SLAM3 and other dynamic scene SLAM systems. The experimental results show that this method greatly improves the positioning accuracy of the camera and the robustness of the system in a highly complex dynamic environment, which verifies the advancement and effectiveness of the algorithm in this paper. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

As a standardized and systematic management method, business process management plays an important role in the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) scenario. With the rapid development of mobile Internet and the increasing amount of data generated by the Internet of Things devices, the traditional storage scheme can no longer meet the requirements of managing the IIoT mobile business data. The cloud-edge collaborative data storage scheme provides mass storage capability by the cloud data center, and meanwhile takes access delay into account by storing data in the edge servers near to user, making it an effective solution to manage mobile business data in the IIoT scenario. However, the storage capacity of edge servers is relatively limited. How to design a reasonable data placement strategy to maximize the speed of data reading and tasks execution in IIoT business process has become an urgent problem to be solved. In order to shorten the overall running time, reduce data transmission costs and enhance users experience, we propose a data placement strategy based on Bayesian optimization algorithm, which can reasonably allocate storage capacity in the edge side, and further determine which edge server the data should be placed on. The results of the experiment show that the strategy based on our proposed algorithm performs better in a variety of different scenarios than the ones that based on other kind of optimization algorithms which have been adopted in similar studies. © 2022 IEEE.

Target-Mounted Intelligent Reflecting Surface for Secure Wireless Sensing

In this paper, we consider a challenging secure wireless sensing scenario where a legitimate radar station (LRS) intends to detect a target at unknown location in the presence of an unauthorized radar station (URS). We aim to enhance the sensing performance of the LRS and in the meanwhile prevent the detection of the same target by the URS. Under this setup, conventional stealth-based approaches such as wrapping the target with electromagnetic wave absorbing materials are not applicable, since they will disable the target detection by not only the URS, but the LRS as well. To tackle this challenge, we propose in this paper a new target-mounted IRS approach, where intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is mounted on the outer/echo surface of the target and by tuning the IRS reflection, the strength of its reflected radar signal in any angle of departure (AoD) can be adjusted based on the signal’s angle of arrival (AoA), thereby enhancing/suppressing the signal power towards the LRS/URS, respectively. To this end, we propose a practical protocol for the target-mounted IRS to estimate the LRS/URS channel and waveform parameters based on its sensed signals and control the IRS reflection for/against the LRS/URS accordingly. Specifically, we formulate new optimization problems to design the reflecting phase shifts at IRS for maximizing the received signal power at the LRS while keeping that at the URS below a certain level, for both the cases of short-term and long-term IRS operations with different dynamic reflection capabilities. To solve these non-convex problems, we apply the penalty dual decomposition method to obtain high-quality suboptimal solutions for them efficiently. Finally, simulation results are presented that verify the effectiveness of the proposed protocol and algorithms for the target-mounted IRS to achieve secure wireless sensing, as compared with various benchmark schemes. © 2023, CC BY.

We investigate the practical aspects of computing the necessary and possible winners in elections over incomplete voter preferences. In the case of the necessary winners, we show how to implement and accelerate the polynomial-time algorithm of Xia and Conitzer. In the case of the possible winners, where the problem is NP-hard, we give a natural reduction to Integer Linear Programming (ILP) for all positional scoring rules and implement it in a leading commercial optimization solver. Further, we devise optimization techniques to minimize the number of ILP executions and, oftentimes, avoid them altogether. We conduct a thorough experimental study that includes the construction of a rich benchmark of election data based on real and synthetic data. Our findings suggest that, the worst-case intractability of the possible winners notwithstanding, the algorithmic techniques presented here scale well and can be used to compute the possible winners in realistic scenarios. © 2021 Association for Computing Machinery.

A new transient chaotic neuron model which introduces Legendre function into the self-feedback term is constructed. The dynamic characteristics of the single neuron are analyzed by the time evolution graph and the inverted bifurcation graph of the largest Lyapunov exponent. The network parameters are set for settling the combinatorial optimization problem.
