The passive and frequency-flat reflection of IRS, as well as the high-dimensional IRS-reflected channels, have posed significant challenges for efficient IRS channel estimation, especially in wideband communication systems with significant multi-path channel delay spread. To address these challenges, we propose a novel neural network (NN)-empowered framework for IRS channel autocorrelation matrix estimation in wideband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. This framework relies only on the easily accessible reference signal received power (RSRP) measurements at users in existing wideband communication systems, without requiring additional pilot transmission. Based on the estimates of channel autocorrelation matrix, the passive reflection of IRS is optimized to maximize the average user received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) over all subcarriers in the OFDM system. Numerical results verify that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms existing power-measurement-based IRS reflection designs in wideband channels. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel hierarchical attention feature fusion and refinement network designed to address challenges in existing deep learning based point cloud upsampling methods. The network combines self-attention layers with a multi-level feature extraction architecture, effectively integrating local and global features, thereby enhancing the robustness and uniformity of the point cloud. Furthermore, a spatial refinement module is employed to predict the offset between the generated coarse dense point clouds and real point clouds, thereby enhancing consistency with the ground truth. Concurrently, a filter function is applied in the loss function to handle outliers of generated point clouds. Extensive experimental results across multiple datasets indicate that our method outperforms existing approaches.

Answering complex queries over incomplete knowledge graphs (KGs) is a challenging task. Most previous works have focused on learning entity/relation embeddings and simulating first-order logic operators with various neural networks. However, they are bottlenecked by the inability to share world knowledge to improve logical reasoning, thus resulting in suboptimal performance. In this paper, we propose a complex reasoning schema over KG upon large language models (LLMs), containing a curriculum-based logical-aware instruction tuning framework, named LACT. Specifically, we augment the arbitrary first-order logical queries via binary tree decomposition, to stimulate the reasoning capability of LLMs. To address the difficulty gap among different types of complex queries, we design a simple and flexible logic-aware curriculum learning framework. Experiments across widely used datasets demonstrate that LACT has substantial improvements (brings an average +5.5% MRR score) over advanced methods, achieving the new state-of-the-art. Objective: The goal of this paper was to understand the applicability of the Information Technology (IT) Implementation Framework, a multi-level approach to identify factors that impede or promote IT usage, for incorporating a mHealth technology for consumers in the community setting. Methods: A case study of the implementation of the Sense2Quit App for smoking cessation among people living with HIV was examined to parse out the factors within the framework that are applicable to mHealth technology and the factors that may need modification for use of this framework within this context. Results: Findings suggest that phases two through five of the framework were applicable to our study and phase one was not. Conclusion: Findings support the use of the theory for implementation of mHealth technology for promoting consumer health at the community level. This use case may be useful for stakeholders evaluating implementation of mHealth for patients with chronic conditions as it highlights the need to identify preferences of app specifications, personal habits, and various factors such as confidentiality and digital literacy which may challenge sustained usage. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Cellular-connected unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications is an enabling technology to transmit control signaling or payload data for UAVs through cellular networks. Due to the line-of-sight dominant air-to-ground channels, efficient interference mitigation is crucial to UAV communications, while the conventional fixed-position antenna (FPA) arrays have limited degrees of freedom to suppress the interference between the UAV and its non-associated co-channel base stations (BSs). To address this challenge, we propose in this letter a new approach by utilizing the six-dimensional movable antenna (6DMA) arrays to enhance the interference mitigation for the UAV. Specifically, we propose an efficient block coordinate descent algorithm to iteratively optimize the antenna position vector, array rotation vector, receive beamforming vector, and associated BS of the UAV to maximize its signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio. Numerical results show that the proposed 6DMA enhanced cellular-connected UAV communication can significantly outperform that with the traditional FPA arrays and other benchmark schemes in terms of interference mitigation. © 2025 IEEE. One of the forms of cancerous tumors that can be fatal is malignant lymphoma. Histopathological examination of lymphoma tissue images is a diagnostic technique for detecting malignant lymphomas. Differentiating lymphoma subtypes manually is challenging due to their similar morphological features. This paper introduces a cutting-edge methodology for classifying malignant lymphoma using Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E)-stained biopsy images. It integrates feature reduction using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and model optimization through a Genetic Algorithm (GA) in conjunction with DenseNet121 architecture. The DenseNet121 model, which employs four distinct freezing strategies, extracts features from the images, generating an initial 4096 features per image. These features are subsequently reduced by more than 54.4% using PSO, thereby enhancing the computational efficiency without sacrificing classification accuracy. The trained GA Deep Neural Network (DNN) model achieved a significant score of 96.77% testing accuracy with high precision, recall and F1 scores as well. The results after comparison with other existing state-of-the-art models showed the usefulness of the proposed approach in terms of performance as well as the consumption of resources for medical imaging classification. It is recommended that the combined application of PSO for feature reduction and GA for model optimization can be successfully used for improving accuracy rate of such algorithms while reducing computation time. This technique is expected to be further developed and applied in different tasks of computer aided diagnosis of malignant lymphoma in particular the tasks with requirements for explainable artificial intelligence. © 2013 IEEE.

Negotiated Reasoning: On Provably Addressing Relative Over-Generalization

Over-generalization is a thorny issue in cognitive science, where people may become overly cautious due to past experiences. Agents in multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) also have been found suffering relative over-generalization (RO) as people do and stuck to sub-optimal cooperation. Recent methods have shown that assigning reasoning ability to agent can mitigate RO algorithmically and empirically, but there has been a lack of theoretical understanding of RO, let alone designing provably RO-free methods. This paper first proves that RO can be avoided when the MARL method satisfies a consistent reasoning requirement under certain conditions. Then we introduce a novel reasoning framework, called negotiated reasoning, that first builds the connection between reasoning and RO with theoretical justifications. After that, we propose an instantiated algorithm, Stein variational negotiated reasoning (SVNR), which uses Stein variational gradient descent to derive a negotiation policy that provably avoids RO in MARL under maximum entropy policy iteration. The method is further parameterized with neural networks for amortized learning, making computation efficient. Numerical experiments on many RO-challenged environments demonstrate the superiority and efficiency of SVNR compared to state-of-the-art methods in addressing RO. © 2023, CC BY.

The escalating costs of healthcare globally necessitate the development of accurate prediction models to address the financial strain on individuals, families, businesses, and governments. This research employs linear regression models to forecast healthcare expenditures, analyzing the intricate relationship between various factors and costs. A comprehensive literature survey explores topics such as the impact of environmental pollution on healthcare spending, prediction of surgical expenses, budget impact analysis for cancer treatment, and the integration of big data in healthcare infrastructure investments. The methodology involves gathering a diverse dataset encompassing patient demographics, medical history, treatment methods, and associated expenditures. Exploratory data analysis employs Pearson's correlation coefficient to identify trends and correlations between variables. Two linear regression models are proposed and compared, with the second model excluding non-significant variables for enhanced accuracy and interpretability. Results indicate that the second model, with refined feature selection, outperforms the first in terms of mean squared error and R-squared values. A comparative analysis of different studies underscores the diverse findings in healthcare economics, ranging from the impact of CO2 emissions on health to predicting surgery costs and budgetary savings in cancer treatment. The research contributes to the growing body of knowledge in healthcare economics, providing decision-makers with a valuable tool for precise expenditure estimation. The emphasis on linear regression models aids stakeholders in understanding factors influencing healthcare costs, guiding resource allocation, policy creation, and financial planning for more sustainable and effective healthcare systems.

Objective: Accurate detection and classification of breast lesions in early stage is crucial to timely formulate effective treatments for patients. We aim to develop a fully automatic system to detect and classify breast lesions using multiple contrast-enhanced mammography(CEM) ***: In this study, a total of 1,903 females who underwent CEM examination from three hospitals were enrolled as the training set, internal testing set, pooled external testing set and prospective testing set. Here we developed a CEM-based multiprocess detection and classification system(MDCS) to perform the task of detection and classification of breast lesions. In this system, we introduced an innovative auxiliary feature fusion(AFF)algorithm that could intelligently incorporates multiple types of information from CEM images. The average freeresponse receiver operating characteristic score(AFROC-Score) was presented to validate system’s detection performance, and the performance of classification was evaluated by area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC). Furthermore, we assessed the diagnostic value of MDCS through visual analysis of disputed cases,comparing its performance and efficiency with that of radiologists and exploring whether it could augment radiologists’ ***: On the pooled external and prospective testing sets, MDCS always maintained a high standalone performance, with AFROC-Scores of 0.953 and 0.963 for detection task, and AUCs for classification were 0.909[95% confidence interval(95% CI): 0.822-0.996] and 0.912(95% CI: 0.840-0.985), respectively. It also achieved higher sensitivity than all senior radiologists and higher specificity than all junior radiologists on pooled external and prospective testing sets. Moreover, MDCS performed superior diagnostic efficiency with an average reading time of 5 seconds, compared to the radiologists’ average reading time of 3.2 min.
