Collaborative federated learning (CFL) enables device cooperation in training shared machine learning models without reliance on a parameter server. However, the absence of a parameter server also impacts vulnerabilities associated with adversarial attacks, including privacy inference and Byzantine attacks. In this context, this paper introduces a novel CFL framework that enables each device to individually determine the subset of devices to transmit FL parameters to over the wireless network, based on its neighboring devices' location, current loss, and connection information, to achieve privacy protection and robust aggregation. This is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to minimize CFL training loss while satisfying the privacy preservation, robust aggregation, and transmission delay requirements. To solve this problem, a proximal policy optimization (PPO)-based reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm integrated with a graph neural network (GNN) is proposed. Compared to traditional algorithms that use global information with high computational complexity, the proposed GNN-RL method can be deployed on devices based on neighboring information with lower computational overhead. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can protect data privacy and increase identification accuracy by 15% compared to an algorithm in which devices are partially clustered for model aggregation.

Bridging Knowledge Gap Between Image Inpainting and Large-Area Visible Watermark Removal

Visible watermark removal which involves watermark cleaning and background content restoration is pivotal to evaluate the resilience of watermarks. Existing deep neural network (DNN)-based models still struggle with large-area watermarks and are overly dependent on the quality of watermark mask prediction. To overcome these challenges, we introduce a novel feature adapting framework that leverages the representation modeling capacity of a pre-trained image inpainting model. Our approach bridges the knowledge gap between image inpainting and watermark removal by fusing information of the residual background content beneath watermarks into the inpainting backbone model. We establish a dual-branch system to capture and embed features from the residual background content, which are merged into intermediate features of the inpainting backbone model via gated feature fusion modules. Moreover, for relieving the dependence on high-quality watermark masks, we introduce a new training paradigm by utilizing coarse watermark masks to guide the inference process. This contributes to a visible image removal model which is insensitive to the quality of watermark mask during testing. Extensive experiments on both a large-scale synthesized dataset and a real-world dataset demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods. Robots are frequently utilized in manufacturing, aviation, and other industries, which enhance industrial production efficiency and quality. Specifically, robots perform high-precision tasks like welding, assembly and material handling, which reduce the intensity of manual labor in factories. In the logistics field, robots automatically sort and deliver goods, thereby speeding up supply chain operations. However, the prolonged operation of robots suffers from a decline in positioning accuracy, which makes them unable to satisfy task requirements. To address this challenging issue, this study designs an efficient calibration system integrating the Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm with fuzzy proportion integration differentiation controller and radial basis function neural network. The innovations of this method include: (1) integrating the fuzzy proportion integration differentiation controller into the updating rules of Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm, which further enhances the identification performance of kinematic errors;(2) adopting the radial basis function neural network to handle the robot dynamic errors, which addresses the complexity of dynamic error sources. Extensively experimental robot positioning points are gathered on an HSR JR680 robot, and then experimental validations are conducted by using the designed calibration system. The experiments indicate that the developed algorithm outperforms these existing advanced algorithms. © 2025 Wiley Periodicals LLC.

Recommender systems are essential and are playing a more and more important role in our daily life, ranging from entertainment to online shopping. They have great commercial value, not only can improve the user experience by saving users time to locate related items, but also increase the exposure rate of long-tail items. Factorization machines (FMs) have been serving as an effective go-to recommender algorithm for years. Yet, it is not without disadvantages, such as mediocre performances. In this paper, we propose an enhanced factorization model, namely, enhanced holographic factorization machines (or HFM++). Our model integrates a Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM) and a generalized matrix factorization (GMF) into holograph FM, resulting in a more powerful recommendation model that inherits the benefits of all these three models. To evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of HFM++, we conduct experiments with several well-known public benchmarking datasets and compare them against a number of baseline models. The experimental results show that HFM++ obtains the best performances across all metrics, outperforming recently published baselines. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Detecting anomalies for key performance indicator (KPI) data is of paramount importance to ensure the quality and reliability of network services. However, building the anomaly detection system for KPI is challenging due to the scarcity of abnormal labels and highly dynamic or even unseen patterns. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised KPI anomaly detection framework named PRAD by jointly optimizing prediction-based and reconstruction-based modules. Specifically, PRAD employs two parallel graph attention networks (GATs) to learn metric-oriented and time-oriented relationships. A temporal convolutional attention network (TCAN) is used to capture complex long-term dependencies. Furthermore, to tackle the overfitting issue in the variational auto-encoder (VAE), PRAD designs a reconstruction-based module that combines VAE with a generative adversarial network (GAN). The experimental results on the two public datasets demonstrate that the proposed PRAD outperforms existing anomaly detection methods. © 2022 IEEE.

Boundary-Aware Network for Abdominal Multi-Organ Segmentation

Automated abdominal multi-organ segmentation is a crucial yet challenging task in the computer-aided diagnosis of abdominal organ-related diseases. Although numerous deep learning models have achieved remarkable success in many medical image segmentation tasks, accurate segmentation of abdominal organs remains challenging, due to the varying sizes of abdominal organs and the ambiguous boundaries among them. In this paper, we propose a boundary-aware network (BA-Net) to segment abdominal organs on CT scans and MRI scans. This model contains a shared encoder, a boundary decoder, and a segmentation decoder. The multi-scale deep supervision strategy is adopted on both decoders, which can alleviate the issues caused by variable organ sizes. The boundary probability maps produced by the boundary decoder at each scale are used as attention to enhance the segmentation feature maps. We evaluated the BA-Net on the Abdominal Multi-Organ Segmentation (AMOS) Challenge dataset and achieved an average Dice score of 89.29% for multi-organ segmentation on CT scans and an average Dice score of 71.92% on MRI scans. Throughput-optimal dynamic broadcasting is an essential cornerstone for the efficient operation of Multi-hop Wireless Networks (MWNs). Most existing algorithms for this problem were developed assuming static interference environments and network connectivity. However, wireless interference environments and network connectivity are inherently time-varying in real-world scenarios, primarily due to uncontrollable interference sources and unreliable links. Such time-varying characteristics make these existing algorithms less robust. In this paper, we study the robust throughput-optimal dynamic broadcasting for MWNs with multi-dimensional time-varying characteristics in terms of interference environments, network connectivity, and data arrival. We model the time-varying link existence states using a random process and characterize the time-varying interference environments through a dynamic variant of the classical Signal-to-Interference-plus-Noise-Ratio (SINR) model. In this variant, the SINR model parameters are dynamically adjusted over time by an adversary. Based on this, we first design a Robust Throughput-optimal Dynamic Broadcast (RTDB) algorithm which makes efficient slot-based max-weight link scheduling, power allocation, and data forwarding decisions in each time slot. We then prove its throughput-optimality in time-varying acyclic directed MWNs under the dynamic SINR model. The effectiveness of RTDB is validated via numerous simulations. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

This paper studies adaptive target detection in compound-Gaussian clutter for a colocated multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar. A new one-step generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) is devised with all the involved unknown parameters estimated iteratively. Besides, a minor revision is made to the already existing two-step GLRT for this problem. Numerical examples show that both the two detectors are effective. For the considered simulation setup, the newly proposed detector can achieve higher detection rates than the revised one and competitors designed in Gaussian clutter scenarios.
