Vehicular network technology has made substantial advancements in recent years in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems. Vehicular Cloud Computing (VCC) has emerged as a novel paradigm with a substantial increase in data exchange within Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs). VCC integrates cloud computing, vehicular networking, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. It enables Infrastructure-to-Vehicle (I2V), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), and Vehicle-to-Device (V2D) communication. VCC optimizes vehicle, cloud infrastructure, and IoT resources while addressing significant communication security and vehicle-user privacy challenges. To address these issues, we developed an RFID-based authentication protocol for VCC based on a Henon map using a hash function. In addition, we also incorporated a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to resist physical tampering attacks. We validate the protocol's security formally and informally. The formal security analysis is conducted through a widely used RoR model. We use the Scyther simulation tool to verify the proposed protocol's security against various attacks. Moreover, we compare the performance of our protocol with similar existing protocols across important performance parameters such as communication and computation overheads and security attributes. The proposed protocol yields substantial improvements, demonstrating a 40.74% reduction in computation overhead and a 13.03% decrease in communication overhead as compared to related protocols, delivering both enhanced performance and resource efficiency. The analysis demonstrates its capacity to support secure communication in the VCC environment and satisfy desirable security attributes. © 2024 IEEE.

Identification and classification of brain tumors have become a concern for the medical community as the treatment planning and patients’ prognosis is highly dependent on their classification. In the past few years, deep learning models have become the most discussed and widely used tools to achieve higher accuracy and efficiency in this area. This study gives a comparison of the two widely used deep learning networks, the modified UNet and ResNet-50 for the task of brain tumor classification. The study assesses the efficiency of these architectures on the benchmark dataset and indicates the strengths and limitations of each. The evaluation process is made of extremely rigorous testing and validation procedures, which are aimed at making the data reliable. The outcomes of our study indicate that both modified UNet and ResNet-50 can reasonably be applied to the brain tumor classification. Modified UNet surpasses ResNet-50 in overall accuracy, which implies its effectiveness in high-precision classifications. This comparison revealed the feasibility of the architectures for classifying brain tumors. It helps both researchers and practitioners in the field by providing them with information to find the model appropriate for their specific needs. Moreover, the results of the study could be used to build the discussion on the application of the deep learning models in the diagnosis and classification of brain tumors as a part of the medical image analysis. Graph similarity computation is a critical task in various fields, including bioinformatics, social network analysis, and pattern recognition. Traditional methods, such as Graph Edit Distance, face challenges in computational complexity and accuracy. In this paper, we propose IASim, a method for computing graph similarity with information enhancement, leveraging Graph Neural Networks to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of graph similarity computation. IASim incorporates edge information and multi-level node information into the graph embedding process, utilizing a multi-layer neural tensor network architecture and a novel attention mechanism to capture the intricate relationships between nodes and edges. Our experiments on three diverse real datasets demonstrate that IASim outperforms existing methods in both accuracy and computational efficiency, exhibiting outstanding robustness and stability across a range of embedding dimensions. IASim emerges as a promising tool for a variety of applications demanding graph similarity computations. © 2024 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a constantly expanding system connecting countless devices for seamless data collection and exchange. This has transformed decision-making with data-driven insights across different domains. However, challenges arise concerning security and computational limitations. To strengthen IoT against cyber threats and optimize resource usage, combining Quantum Computing with Machine Learning (ML) is a promising approach. ML enables computers to learn from data and detect patterns without explicit programming. By leveraging ML algorithms, vast datasets from IoT devices can be analyzed, identifying anomalies and forecasting potential security breaches. Yet, conventional ML algorithms may need help with the complexity and scale of IoT data. Quantum Computing, based on quantum mechanics, offers unparalleled computational speed and scale. Quantum ML algorithms can quickly analyze IoT datasets, identifying patterns and potential threats. This study examines the ideas behind ML, quantum computing, and their potential collaboration within IoT networks. The research focuses on the possibility of improving the security of IoT networks by integrating quantum computing approaches with ML. It also addresses the challenges and limitations of integrating ML and quantum computing in the context of IoT networks. These obstacles include hardware constraints, algorithm complexities, and the need for specialized knowledge. © 2025 IEEE.

Energy Oriented Three-Tier Computation Offloading Scheme in Maritime Edge Computing Network

With the development of maritime continuing to grow, large-scale maritime wireless devices (MWDs) are being deployed for various maritime applications. The rapid development of maritime Internet of Things (IoT) and growing demand for these applications have led to an increasing number of computation-intensive and resource-sensitive tasks. Considering the limited computing capacity and energy of MWDs, it is challenging to transmit and process massive maritime computing tasks in an energy efficient manner. In this paper, we propose a three-tier maritime edge computing system in which low earth orbit (LEO) satellite and offshore base station (OBS) support to provide communication and computing services for MWDs. The system optimizes association variable, task partitioning, transmission power, and computing resource allocation to reduce system energy consumption under latency constraints. The optimization problem is formulated as a mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) optimization problem. We decompose the original problem into four subproblems and design algorithms to solve them. Firstly, the association variable optimization subproblem is solved by slack variable method. Then, we adopt quadratic transformation and design a difference of convex algorithm to solve transmission power optimization subproblem. Further, task partitioning subproblem is solved by obtaining upper and lower bounds of offloading task size by strict deduction, and then solved by the standard convex method. Finally, Lagrangian dual method is utilized to deal with joint computing resource optimization subproblem of LEO satellite and OBS. In simulation results, the proposed algorithm saves 39.3% of system energy consumption compared to benchmark schemes. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Deploying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as aerial base stations enhances the coverage and performance of communication networks in Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) scenarios. However, due to the limited communication range and energy capacity of UAVs, they cannot continuously cover entire areas or sustain long flights. Therefore, achieving full communication coverage of a target area with a minimal number of UAVs and efficient task offloading remains a significant challenge. To address this problem, the UAV-assisted Two-stage Intelligent Collaboration (UTIC) method is proposed in this paper to tackle the joint position optimization and task scheduling issue. Firstly, a UAV-assisted Two-stage Task Scheduling (UTTS) system model is designed to optimize the allocation process. Secondly, an Enhanced Particle Swarm Optimization (E-PSO) algorithm is designed to determine the optimal positions of UAVs, ensuring complete coverage of all mobile vehicles (MVs) with the minimum number of UAVs. Thirdly, Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) method is employed to find the optimal scheduling decisions for MVs, considering energy consumption, delay, and task priorities. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed UTIC method can achieve nearly 20% reduction in UAV deployment and outperform three other classical reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms in terms of reducing system cost. © 2025 IEEE.

Driving safety is significant to building a people-oriented and harmonious society, Tires are one of the key components of a vehicle and the character information on the tire sidewall is critical to their storage and usage. However, due to the diverse and differentiated features of typographic fonts, simultaneously extracting comprehensive characteristics is an extremely challenging task. To effectively break through these performance degradation issues, a multi-scale tire sidewall text region detection algorithm based on YOLOv5 is introduced, called YOLOT, which fuses comprehensive feature information in both width and depth directions. In this study, we firstly propose the Width and Depth Awareness (WDA) module in the text region detection field and successfully integrated it with the FPN structure to form the WDA-FPN. The purpose of WDA-FPN is to empower the network to capture multi-scale and multi-shape features in images, thereby augmenting the algorithm's abstraction and representation of image features and concurrently boosting its robustness and generalization performance. Experimental findings indicate that, compared to the primary algorithm, YOLOT achieves significant improvement in accuracy, providing a higher detection reliability.
