Load shedding is a challengeable issue in data stream management systems (DSMSs). When data stream rates exceed system capacity, the overloaded DSMS fails to process all of its input data and keep up with the rate of data arrival. Especially, in a time-critical environment, queries should be completed not just timely but within certain deadlines. Existing strategies are poor at handling huge fluctuant overload with deadline. In this paper, an Effective Deadline-Aware Random Load Shedding algorithm (named RLS-EDA) is proposed to handle real-time system overload effectively. The RLS-EDA algorithm can make full use of the system idle time by buffering dropped tuples which would have opportunities to be executed when the workload is fade. Experiment results show that our algorithm can reduce average deadline miss ratio and increase system throughput during the period of huge workload fluctuations.

Particle swarm optimization (PSO) has shown its fast search speed in many complicated optimization and search problems. However, PSO could often easily fall into local optima. This paper presents an improved PSO with adaptive jump. The proposed method combines a novel jump strategy and an adaptive Cauchy mutation operator to help escape from local optima. The new algorithm was tested on a suite of well-known benchmark functions with many local optima. Experimental results were compared with some similar PSO algorithms based on Gaussian distribution and Cauchy distribution, and showed better performance on those test functions.

Run length encoding can be found in numerous applications such as data transfer or image storing (Sayood, 2002). It is a well known, easy and efficient compression method based on the assumption of long data sequences without the change of content. These sequences can be described by their position and length of appearance. Implementations using dedicated logic are optimised for parallel data processing. Here, images are transferred in blocks of multiple pixels in parallel. A compression of these streams into a run length code requires an encoder with a parallel input. This run length encoder has to compress the sequence at a minimum of clock cycles to avoid long inhibit intervals at the input. This paper describes a hardware algorithm performing a high performance run length encoding for binary images using a parallel input.

In order to realize the industrialization production of software, people have carried out research on and analysis the software product line architecture of the growing maturity, component technology and development methods for product line. In this paper, a novel software engineering process model is proposed based on the modern industrial production systems and automated production method: that is ¿N-life-cycle model¿. Based on this new model, not only integrated software engineering environment model and framework have been proposed, which are based on the product line development process model, but also study systematically on theirs implementation. "N-life-cycle model" and "integrated software engineering environment model based on the product line" which are set up in the article are brand-new open models possessing modern manufacturing production characteristic. The models can impel the research development quickly of product line engineering and product line software engineering environment towards the industrialisation and automatization of the software industry.

In this panel, we propose to figure out how requirements engineering and interaction design can be usefully combined. In particular, some people argue that scenarios/ use cases should be concrete, as in story-telling. Others argue for use of "essential" use cases as a methodological approach to interaction and user-interface design. Somewhat in the middle, it is argued that use cases should help acquiring the requirements in the first place. What should the practitioner believe and, in particular, do, in order to develop useful and usable software and systems? software development and interaction design require different skills and different methods and are typically done by different people. Still, scenario-based design is proposed for several activities relevant for both tasks, such as requirements elicitation, software design, and interaction design. Symbolic modeling in this spirit is actually common to various fields. However, scenario-based approaches vary, especially with regard to their use, e.g., employing abstract use cases or integrating scenarios with functions and goals in a systematic design process. So, the key issue to be raised at the panel is how to combine different approaches, e.g., in scenario-based development, so that the interaction design as well as the development of the user interface and of the software internally result in an overall useful and useable system.

In health informatics, the "updated DeLone and McLean IS success model" is reviewed as a mature model in measuring health information system (HIS) success. This research provided an evaluation model to estimate the implementation of electronic medical records (EMR) systems from a health professional perspective by combined the updated DeLone and McLean IS success model, data quality management model, and EMR systems safety attributes. Based on evidence-based management (EBM), this research could be regarded as an empirical example for further EMR systems research since it not only provided a model to measure the Taiwanese EMR systems in two hospitals by implementing a structure instrument and structure equation modeling (SEM) of quantitative methods, but also introduced how to identify the possible effects in such evaluation research.

We model the sum and product riddle in public announcement logic, which is interpreted on an epistemic Kripke model. The model is symbolically represented as a finite state program with n agents. A model checking method to the riddle is developed by using the BDD-based symbolic model checking algorithm for logic of knowledge we developed in [7]. The method is implemented by extending the model checker MCTK [7] and then the solution of the riddle is verified successfully.

The Analog circuits are very important in many high-speed applications such as communications. Since the size of analog circuit is becoming larger and more complex, the design is becoming more and more difficult. This paper proposes a new circuit representation method based on a two-layer evolutionary scheme with genetic programming (TLGP), which uses a divide-and-conquer approach to evolve the analog circuits. This representation has the desirable property which is more helpful to generate expectant circuit graphs. And it is capable of generating various kinds of circuits by evolving the circuits with dynamical size, circuit topology, and component values. The experimental results on the designs of the voltage amplifier and the low-pass filter show that this method is efficient.

The non-existence of triangular arbitrage in an efficient foreign exchange markets is widely believed. In this paper, we deploy a forecasting model to predict foreign exchange rates and apply the triangular arbitrage model to evaluate the possibility of an arbitrage opportunity. Surprisingly, we substantiate the existence of triangular arbitrage opportunities in the exchange rate forecasting market even with transaction costs. This also implies the inefficiency of the market and potential market threats of profit-seeking investors. In our experiments, neural network based model with back-propagation (BP-NN) is used for exchange rate forecasting.

In this paper, a novel variable rate based time frame scheduling scheme is proposed to further reduce collisions and improve energy saving in wireless sensor networks. The MAC combines CSMA and TDMA functionalities, while obviating their shortcomings. After being assigned, slot 0 is preserved as the pre-schedule slot to inform neighbor nodes the schedule of the senders. During this pre-schedule slot, each node knows exactly the schedule of other neighbor nodes. Multi-rate and power scaling are adopted to achieve further energy saving by employing an acceptable rate rather than the maximum rate. Data rate is dynamically adjusted according to the traffic load of sending nodes in an energy efficient data rate to save energy. Compared with Z-MAC, performance in the present study proves to have better ability of local framing pre-schedule and multi-rate achieves better energy efficiency.
