Software-as-a-service(SaaS): perspectives and challenges

Software-as-a-service(SaaS)has received significant attention recently as one of three principal components of cloud computing,and it often deals with applications that run on top of a platform-as-a-service(PaaS)that in turn runs on top of infrastructure-as-a-service(IaaS).This paper provides an overview of SaaS including its architecture and major technical issues such as customization,multi-tenancy architecture,redundancy and recovery mechanisms,and ***,a SaaS system can have architecture relating to a database-oriented approach,middleware-oriented approach,service-oriented approach,or PaaS-oriented *** SaaS customization strategies can be used from light customization with manual coding to heavy customization where the SaaS system and its underlying PaaS systems are customized ***-tenancy architecture is an important feature of a SaaS and various trade-offs including security isolation,performance,and engineering effort need to be *** is important for a SaaS system to have multi-level redundancy and recovery mechanisms,and the SaaS system needs to coordinate these with the underlying PaaS ***,SaaS scalability mechanisms include a multi-level architecture with load balancers,automated data migration,and software design strategies.

Following development of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), combinatorial testing technologies are used in SaaS testing. It is difficult to handle the exponential growth of SaaS testing workloads. This paper proposes a new integrated testing framework using Adaptive Reasoning algorithm with automated test cases generation (ARP) and Test Algebra (TA) to increase SaaS testing efficiency. ARP algorithm can rapidly identify and eliminate faulty combinations. The proposed integrated testing framework is simulated in cloud environment.

Requirements patterns have recently been gaining popularity among research communities to help users in identifying, analysing and structuring requirements of a software system. While still in their early stage of development, organizing these patterns would not only assist practitioners in accessing patterns but also provide developers with a direction to design their patterns accordingly. In this paper, an extensive study of various pattern based methods for the requirements phase is reported. Their features, content, structure, purpose, role in assisting requirements engineering activities, similarities and differences are analyzed as we subsequently classify the constituting requirements patterns based on the kind of artefact they present to the user.

Over 50% of HIV+ individuals exhibit neurocognitive impairment and subcortical atrophy, but the pattern of brain abnormalities associated with HIV is still poorly understood. Using parametric surface-based shape analyses, we mapped the 3D profile of subcortical morphometry in 63 HIV+ participants and 31 uninfected controls. The thalamus, corpus striatum, hippocampus, amygdala, brainstem, callosum and ventricles were segmented from brain MRIs. To investigate subcortical shape, we analyzed the Jacobian determinant (JD) and radial distances (RD) for structure surfaces. We also investigated effects of nadir CD4+ T-cell counts, viral load, and illness duration on subcortical morphology. Our results characterize subcortical morphometry in older HIV+ people, where participants showed significant volumetric enlargements in the thalamus, left pallidum and the ventricles while showing a reduction in the callosum. Further, RD maps revealed atrophy of the left thalamus and expansion of the brainstem in HIV. RD and JD maps of the right pallidum identified tissue expansion associated with illness duration while the left pallidum showed anterior atrophy and posterior expansion associated with viral load. © 2015 IEEE.

We introduce the stable model semantics for fuzzy propositional formulas, which generalizes both fuzzy propositional logic and the stable model semantics of classical propositional formulas. Combining the advantages of both formalisms, the introduced language allows highly configurable default reasoning involving fuzzy truth values. We show that several properties of Boolean stable models are naturally extended to this formalism, and discuss how it is related to other approaches to combining fuzzy logic and the stable model semantics.

Recently, action language BC, which combines the attractive features of action languages B and C+, was proposed. While BC allows Prolog-style recursive definitions that are not available in C+, it is less expressive than C+ in other ways, such as inability to express non-Boolean and non-exogenous actions. We propose a new action language called BC+, which encompasses all the features of BC and the definite fragment of C+. The syntax of BC+ is identical to the syntax of C+ allowing arbitrary propositional formulas in the causal laws, but its semantics is defined in terms of propositional formulas under the stable model semantics instead of nonmonotonic causal theories. This approach allows many useful ASP constructs, such as choice rules and aggregates, to be directly used in language BC+, and exploits computational methods available in ASP solvers. © ASPOCP *** rights reserved.

Information Centric Networking (ICN) is a new network architecture that aims to overcome the weakness of existing IP-based networking architecture. Instead of establishing a connection between the communicating hosts, ICN focuses on the content, i.e. data, transmitted in network. Content copies in ICN can be cached at different locations. The content is out of the owner's control once it's published. Thus, enforcing access control policies on distributed content copies is crucial in ICN. Attribute-Based Encryption (ABE) is a feasible approach to enforce such control mechanisms. However, applying ABE in ICN has two challenges: from management perspective, managing attributes is complicated in distributed manners;from privacy perspective, unlike in traditional networks, the enforced content access policies are public to all the ICN users. Thus, it is desirable that unauthorized content viewers are not able to retrieve the access policy. To this end, a privacy-preserving access control scheme for ICN and associated attribute management solution are presented in this paper. This proposed approach is compatible with existing flat name based ICN architectures. © 2014 IEEE.

Since April 2014 the Artemis/ECSEL project EMC 2 is running and provides significant results. EMC 2 stands for "Embedded Multi-Core systems for Mixed Criticality Applications in Dynamic and Changeable Real-Time Environments". In this paper we report recent progress on technical work in the different workpackages and use cases. We highlight progress in the research on system architecture, design methodology, platform and operating systems, and in qualification and certification. Application cases in the fields of automotive, avionics, health care, and industry are presented exploiting the technical results achieved.
